AIBU to ask you very stupid questions about maybe buying an Xbox for myself?

2 years ago I used to have a PlayStation and I enjoyed what I would call 'girlie' games. So, one was called Constructor and another was Spyro the Dragon.
I've a male friend suggesting I buy an xbox.

So does this offer look good?

What is a Roblox bundle?
The mention 3 free games that sound like war games to me which I'd have no interest in.
Do other stores have deals with different games (that I would like)
It also mentions 1 month free subscription to something or another - do you know what that is?
Do you buy the games physically or do you download them?
Any recommendations of games that are not shooting, more strategic, or about building cities and such?

Should I consider buying second-hand?
And finally, are the stores that sell them still open during lockdown?

Thanks if you have any advice.

Sorry, maybe should’ve put a spider warning Blush

They’re worth 8,000 bells so it’s a lucrative job catching them! I had also been stung by wasps in that image Grin

I have an Xbox OP, I have Spyro (I'd forgotten about it actually!) But if you're looking for a city building game, I definitely recommend Cities Skylines. It's brilliant.

WoodliceCollection · 10/04/2020 13:27

PS I use a very old small flatscreen TV I inherited from my nan, you'll be fine with whatever you've got as long as it's not a cathode ray tube! 😁

Or Sims 4 if you're into building individual houses.

User202004 · 10/04/2020 13:29

I only play one game (can be on Xbox or PlayStation) sims 4, lose hours of my life on it.

RedRed9 · 10/04/2020 13:29

I’m so excited for you OP, I love finding a great new game.

Scissorsnglue · 10/04/2020 13:29

Switches are dearer than Xboxes. I would get a cheap Xbox and a trial of a game pass.

Balmytissues · 10/04/2020 13:33

I'm not exactly flush at the moment, so if there is a lot in the price difference, I will go with the Xbox.

Now to purchase one! I'm quite excited now lol.

So, can I buy online - any store you'd recommend?
I'm not likely to pay a subscription if that's what you need to do to play against other people, though who knows, I could become addicted lol.

I'd get a PS4 or Switch. Xbox is better for the online gamer. Switch has a far better range of simpler games (plus Spyro remake), but a few immersive ones as well. Animal Crossing was never my thing, but the remake of Theme Hospital is a lot of fun. I mainly got mine for the new Pokemon game though, which was very fun. I tried Breath of the Wild, but to be honest I found it overrated.

I've recently downloaded Sims4 on to the PS4, but FF7 Remake came out today, so....

Balmytissues · 10/04/2020 13:37

So to be clear, Sims4, Cities Skylines, Zelda and Animal Crossing are all on xbox?

OP if you're not particularly fussed about having the latest games and tech you could probably picked up a PS3 and games for pennies on ebay or somewhere.

MouthBreathingRage · 10/04/2020 13:38

@Balmytissues, no. I think Sims4 is on there but Zelda and Animal Crossing are Nintendo exclusive.

RedRed9 · 10/04/2020 13:41

Two Point Hospital might interest you too.

Balmytissues · 10/04/2020 13:42

Ah yikes.
Many moons ago we had a gaming shop in Italy where you could go in and sample play the games.

I think I'd need something like that to help me decide.

RedRed9 is that for the xbox?

MouthBreathingRage · 10/04/2020 13:44

Oh, and the Switch has Cuphead! Worth it just for that. Very frustrating, but an amazing sense of achievement when you beat a boss. It became a family event getting through it, still stuck on Dice King.

TheHallouminati · 10/04/2020 13:46

Go for a switch.
Stardew and Zelda make it worthwhile alone

TimeForCableTies · 10/04/2020 13:47

Sims is better on pc imo, unless I'm doing it round? Too much clicking needed.

Try minecraft it's so good.

Would you like Skyrim ?

Definitely watch a bit of each of the games on YouTube.

Also it’s worth knowing that almost every game that’s been mentioned can be played on PC (and they’re usually better on PC too). Do you have a PC or laptop? Then you wouldn’t need to buy a new console at all.

RedRed9 · 10/04/2020 13:51

RedRed9 is that for the xbox?

It’s available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Switch.

Most games are made available across all platforms. It’s just Switch games that are sometimes Switch only. (And some games are better suited to different consoles/platforms so the gameplay will vary slightly.)

Balmytissues · 10/04/2020 13:52

I've a laptop! That has perked my ears up? How do I play them on the laptop?

MintyMabel · 10/04/2020 13:53

Impossible to get a switch at the moment. DD wanted one for her birthday. Can't find them (at their proper price) anywhere and I'm not paying double for one!

77leaves · 10/04/2020 13:54

Switch is better but in the meantime Animal Crossing Pocket Camp is a free download app for mobile phone that you could try out.

Balmytissues · 10/04/2020 13:55

Well my googling hasn't gotten me too much further. Any bundle seems to have games I'd have no interest in. Boys and their toys eh?
