POSITIVE Thread - to ask good things that happened to you today

I found a teeny travel size bottle of liquid soap in the drawer that will be great to carry around in case I do something a bit messy for hand sanitizer.

After trying online to find seedling trays with lids, I realised that I could improvise with the plastic containers that tomatoes and grapes come in. (most years I just get plug plants).

I realised that Argos deliver to the mini-Sainsbury that is just across the road.

Anyone got some good things that've happened today, or you realised to share?

Walked in the woods near my house spotting bluebells and listening to birdsong. On my own. It was lovely.

StillDumDeDumming · 11/04/2020 03:02

Thank you for this thread- I’d love to join you. I may get slightly jealous- especially of those who can go outside. My dp had a very bad brain haemorrhage, spent 5 weeks on a ventilator in ICU and has been discharged from hospital very early.

After a difficult week involving lots of paramedics, he perked up for a good half hour. We’re having a hard night but hoping for a good day tomorrow. We can’t get into the garden because he can’t walk but I brought him some flowers in to put by his bed.

@StillDumDeDumming how horrific and scary. Hope he has a comfortable recovery Flowers

StillDumDeDumming · 11/04/2020 06:10

@Bluewavescrashing thank you- we were told twice that he wouldn’t make it and he’s missing essential rehab. Because of the virus. But he’s doing well and it’s very important that I still see the good stuff each day.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 11/04/2020 08:05

@StillDumDeDumming - here's hoping for a sustained improvement - sounds really tough.

Today has been slightly better except it was confirmed that he has Covid. But today I made a gorgeous soup and he ate it. It took a week for his results to come and he’s not too ill so that’s my positive for today.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 11/04/2020 21:26

Good news StillDumDeDumming

My positives for today:
I caught up with last nights TV - interesting to see how people look without make up artists (HIGNFY & Graham Norton). Will worry less about how ancient I look in Zoom meetings.
Yesterday BOGOF on Hot Cross buns - but I picked up one 'salted caramel' pack rather than normal ones. They weren't as bad as I'd anticipated.
Lovely sunny day - I spend a few hours on the roof garden.

The awful headache I woke up with went

LoadsaBlusher · 11/04/2020 21:39

I had lovely hot toasted crumpets for breakfast

The rainy morning ( Scotland ) turned into a dry sunny afternoon so the kids could go out on the decking.

I finally finished my book on my Kindle today

Watched an episode of Tiger King while the kids were playing upstairs

Simple small things Smile

Had a video conference call with loads of family, some a few miles away and some in another country. We did a pub quiz.
It was so fun we're doing another one again next week too Grin

Squirrelinatree · 11/04/2020 22:32

DS told me he loved me for the first time ever completely unprompted and also had a lovely text message from DSD. Thanks for this thread. I’d been feeling down about a few things but I’m now going to bed focused on these positives

MerryTwinkletoes · 11/04/2020 22:41

Ds (9) put his little brother (4) to bed today - read him 5 books while I listened from the other bedroom and he zonked straight out. Much more used to hearing them scream at each other so this was lovely!

BestestBrownies · 11/04/2020 22:55

DP did the grocery shopping for the week and bought some smoked salmon as a surprise treat. It’s a food we consider a luxury but was on a great special offer.

I am also dieting, so it was doubly thoughtful of him not to grab any Easter chocolate (his preferred treat as he has a very sweet tooth).

StillDumDeDumming · 12/04/2020 13:36

DP can’t get into the garden at the moment as we need a ramp but we sat at the kitchen door and listened to the birdsong together with a cup of tea. Covid symptoms are good today.

Branster · 12/04/2020 13:50

StillDumDeDumming wishing your DH an easy recovery, it sounds like you e had it really, really hard.

I found a small Easter Egg missed out by DCs during the egg hunt in the garden before the dog got to it.
Went through a week long enormous pile of ironing and only had to iron 3 t-shirts.

PlanetMJ · 12/04/2020 13:56

Our street has been having a scarecrow festival to cheer us all up as we walk past one another's houses. One of our lovely neighbours also dressed up as the Easter bunny and danced down the street leaving chocolate at the bottom of our drives for all the children while we watched from our doorsteps. (All sealed in plastic bags several days ago and handled with gloves). Now sitting in the back garden sunshine listening to lawnmowers, smelling freshly cut grass and sun cream from the kids in the paddling pool.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 12/04/2020 18:59
  1. My egg is amazing, shared a box of mini eggs with my neighbours (way to tempting if i'd kept them all).
  2. Spent a couple of hours cleaning and playing with the chickens at the community centre, as I was the only one there, I let them have freedom of running round the garden outside of the pen. One who seemed unwell earlier in the week has perked up and is fine today.
  3. Sociable (at a distance) walk home - it's only five minutes away, but bumped into four people (separately along the route) that I know well, a friend was sitting on her first floor balcony, plus a few dog walkers that I know to say hello to.

Scarecrow festival sounds fun

StillDumDeDumming - sounds positive Smile. Your mention of birdsong reminded me that my cat has got used to the additional birdsong, and has stopped waking me up with excitement at 6am to chase the length of the flat because the birds are merrily singing outside. Either that or I just slept through it.

I made scones for the first time. They turned out great. I also taught my DH how to lay bricks - despite being super rusty myself - and we have nearly finished building our salvaged brick BBQ. I mean, it's not the tidiest bricklaying ever, but it is structurally sound.

FredericaBimmel · 12/04/2020 19:47

I finished knitting the front piece of a jumper. Learned how to knit bobbles for this project and it’s looking brilliant so far.

TopEndChops · 12/04/2020 20:30

Heard this for the first time.
Had forgotten quite how wonderful this man's voice is.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 12/04/2020 20:42

My cousin whatsapped me some family photos including my parents' wedding today. They mean such a lot as my parents' album has been lost. My DF and DM are no longer alive. It was my DM's funeral a month ago so they mean the world to me.

Yesterday I bought some dark blue forget-me-nots from the supermarket when food shopping and today I took great pleasure in seeing tiny lambs in the fields.

DingDongDenny · 12/04/2020 20:50

New born lambs in the field opposite us and a lovely cycle ride along the road - with only a couple of cars passing me. Normally I find the road is too busy to cycle on

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 13/04/2020 20:46

hard day today - really tired for no reason and spent a lot of the day in bed.
Good things - managed to get a saucepan that I burnt vegetables in yesterday clean
Remembered to move my car - there's a parking restriction on the space I was parked in tomorrow, and whilst the space unlikely to be used for whatever it was reserved for, council still has traffic wardens out in force.
After looking online for an office chair for a couple of days (reasonably priced ones all sold out), I remembered that builders had dumped one in the communal gym downstairs. I rescued it and gave it a good clean - it's fine, all the levers work although te surface is a bit damaged.

My dp walked the length of our hallway. Furthest since his brain haemorrhage and we played solitaire- which he said was hard but he managed really well.
