And yet she won't stop buying food.. Doesn't have much income coming in and is wasting savings on tons of food.

Why would you admit to that? Shock

As someone else pointed out though, her kids are likely to be abused for this. And her by people who know her.

Plus if she's going to keep spending that amount of money per week, she's going to run out of money quickly. What is she going to do then?

Walkaround · 09/04/2020 13:50

She definitely sounds mentally unwell - she is harming herself and her family, not helping them, by wasting money and food and attracting rodents.

FlashesOfRage · 09/04/2020 13:52

Just classic Sun fodder;

“HAHA aren’t mentally ill/poor/not very smart people funny, also you should hate them.”

FreakStar · 09/04/2020 13:52

Oh come on! Nobody believes this shite- she's not even real. "Katie and Henry"- such made up names! You can picture the journalist now thinking 'what generic names could I give her kids so they sound real and ordinary' . And her name Emmie Shute- try googling it- only link is to this article- completely made up name!

Whatifitallgoesright · 09/04/2020 13:56

She worried about leaving an 11 and 15yr old on their own for too long - she's obviously suffering from anxiety. I hope this doesn't lead to her neighbours picking on her. She's foolish but it's understandable, I wouldn't lump her in with the genuinely thick panic buyers.

Highonpotandused · 09/04/2020 13:58

Ooh Google says Nancee Shute is mum to Emmie, Mema and Massey Shute, in the book ‘At My Grandmother's Knee: Recipes and Memories Handed Down By Women of the South’.

Grandma will be spinning in her grave at all the waste!

LookTheOtherWayPlease · 09/04/2020 13:59

She sounds like she probably has special needs. I understand the impulse to want to protect your family, but wasting money is counter productive. She needs to learn about meal planning, and simple common sense basics like not storing open toilet rolls within reach of a shower.

I'm guessing The Scum waved a chequebook over her head and encouraged her to make her story as sensationalist as possible for maximum clickbait potential.

bellinisurge · 09/04/2020 13:59

She needs help and support. I'm really sorry for her.

For anyone who's interested there are other ways of preserving fresh food other than the freezer but you need a bit of equipment and knowledge how to use it. You don't need to chuck it out.

AgeLikeWine · 09/04/2020 14:01

Shame on the Sun for exploiting someone who clearly isn’t very bright and appears to be extremely anxious.

Sections of the media have evidently learned nothing from the Jeremy Kyle debacle.

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 09/04/2020 14:04

She sounds very anxious. She says she tried to donate to a women’s refuge, food bank and in a box outside her house. Throwing away was a last resort. Regardless, I wouldn’t trust a sun reporter as far as I could throw them. I very much expect that her words have been manipulated. Regardless anyone who sells a story like that must be very vulnerable mentally by definition. She says she is waiting for universal credit. Did she just desperately need some money? God it’s all so sad.

Quartz2208 · 09/04/2020 14:05

Have a google of Alley Einstein who wrote the article.

Its umm interesting

Rabblemum · 09/04/2020 14:06

The media like to twist people’s words, or this woman is shamelessly making a buck. I get panic buying, empty shelves fill us with heat of missing out on what we need, She a bit dim to buy strawberries and eggs though.

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 09/04/2020 14:07

She worked for Fox. Tells me all I need to know.

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 09/04/2020 14:07

^ the journalist

JemSynergy · 09/04/2020 14:09

I also noticed all the unopened jars and even the ones which have been opened won't have gone off yet.

FreakStar · 09/04/2020 14:10

Just google Alley Eistein- hahaha! It's her isn't it- with no make-up and a wig! I think we've busted her!

MyDcAreMarvel · 09/04/2020 14:10

Comments calling her “ not the brightest” are cruel. The lady is clearly unwell and has been taken advantage of by that hideous “news” paper.
Please can some posters not continue to mock and vilify a vulnerable person.

EmeraldShamrock · 09/04/2020 14:11

I feel sorry for her too. What is shit is the inadequate fridge freezer she has too.
Another sword in social economics, she can afford the food by using all her savings, can't afford the storage, it is a lose lose situation. Sad

Topseyt · 09/04/2020 14:15

The Sun is hardly a good quality publication. It is at least as full of shit as the Fail.

TheGreatWave · 09/04/2020 14:20

Haven't read it, but too would take it with a pinch of salt.

However I am surprised at the feelings of anxiety that I am experiencing as a result of the current situation. I have a little Tesco round the corner (plus other local shops) yet I feel this absolute urge to make sure that I have plenty of food in. We always do, but I think I feel that in a way the situation is completely out of my control. I can't just pop to a shop if I need something, I can't just think 'oh we could do with a shop' and just book an online one. When things were short it was always tempting to pick something up even if you didn't really need it.

HannahStern · 09/04/2020 14:25

Just google Alley Eistein- hahaha! It's her isn't it- with no make-up and a wig! I think we've busted her!

Interesting. It certainly looks like her.

VettiyaIruken · 09/04/2020 14:32

She's a panic buyer, not a stockpiler.
Also, she tried several different ways to give the food away first. The headline makes it sound awful.

Tbh the stupid ones are the ones who believe a word of truth is ever printed in the Scum.

VettiyaIruken · 09/04/2020 14:39

They look similar, yeah.

I really have too much time on my hands!

There is nothing the old Currant Bun loves to do more than get the poor to hate their poor neighbours rather than ask questions about why they are poor.

The poor envy the rich but resent their fellow poor if they percieve them, as Alfred Doolittle (get the name?) did in Shaw's Pygmalion, characterising the distinction between the deserving poor and the undeserving poor.

LoopyLouLouLou · 09/04/2020 14:54

Shame on you “The Sun” it sounds to me as though she’s vulnerable and they should have considered whether to print this story. She could potentially get a load of abuse.
