Unreasonable and petty things that put you off a person

NC, penis beaker, wailing michaelangelo etc

Just wondered if anyone else can relate to this - I seem to be easily put off people due to very petty things in the scheme of things.

For example, last month I had to pick up a male colleague on the way to a work meeting. I had to go in his house to help carry some things, which meant going through his garden. He had washing on the line, including his pants. I don't know why but this made me lose respect for him and feel a bit embarrassed for seeing a colleague's pants (not sure if I was embarrassed for me or him). He didn't seem to notice though. He's in his late 50s and I really didn't want to see his pants under any circumstances!

Another was a guy I was seeing years ago. On one occasion he tried for a kiss and I wasn't expecting it, and seeing his lips pierced ready for a kiss when I was completely off guard just disgusted me. It put me off and I didn't see him again Confused

Once something like this has happened my view of them is tainted. Is this a known thing or am I just an unreasonable cow?

People who are abusive to their children behind closed doors (emotionally, physically or just general neglect) yet buy them expensive clothes and doll them up to post images of them all over social media.

Sadly, I have come across far too many of these people. I think they like the idea of children, but don’t actually like the children.

crispysausagerolls · 10/04/2020 11:12

Yes to babies with headbands but I also hate when babies have stupid fucking bunches and ponytails when their hair isn’t long enough it looks so bloody chavvy

crispysausagerolls · 10/04/2020 11:13

@knightlight

Never heard of this

crispysausagerolls · 10/04/2020 11:14

Also babies in animal print shudder

crispysausagerolls · 10/04/2020 11:15

Or babies in political clothing shudders even more

That seems entirely reasonable and serious. Not petty in the slightest.

Toxic Positivity yes yes yes. Used to work somewhere where you were labelled as negative if you expressed the slightest reservation about any proposed change or new thing. And relentlessly upbeat tiggerish types can be so wearing.

lmcneil003 · 10/04/2020 11:24

I know it's petty, but I cannot stand people who call their grandmothers 'Nan.
I think it's downmarket, council and ghastly.

It says far me about me than it does about them.Confused

Slagging people off the minute they are out of the room.
Had a colleague that did this. I am so glad she left.
Businesses adding me on Instagram, when I add them, then start harassing me to become an ambassador. It really hacks me off. I don't even know these people in real life.

Baconking · 10/04/2020 11:28

Men with long nails.

People who post on facebook and end with 'Rant over'

MotherofKitties · 10/04/2020 11:29

People who breathe heavily

People who constantly sniff and don't blow their nose

People who eat with their mouth open

People who talk constantly under their breath

People who think you can change sex. You can't.

"Living my best life/living the dream"

People who document their every movement and aspect of life on social media. Christ almighty just stop whipping out your phone every 5 seconds and actually enjoy being in the moment for once...

Seeing people take multiple selfies in the quest to get the 'perfect' one. Makes me cringe.

Spitting in the street. Horrendous.

People who loudly proclaim they dislike all pets. Cue immediate and deep suspicion.

Anyone who supports fox hunting.

"I just say it like it is". No, you're being rude and a twat.

"Actually/in actual fact" in every sentence to try and reinforce what they're saying is factual or correct.

Smoking.

People who start talking during a really tense moment in a film or series that the rest of the room is obviously watching.

People who bang on about how baby/toddler has only ever been breastfed/fed organic quinoa/avocado/choose your pick of pretentious foodstuffs. No one cares.

To name but a few...

TheReluctantCountess · 10/04/2020 11:44

People who let their dogs stand dangerously on the centre console of the car, or even worse, on their lap. It’s so dangerous.

sassafras123 · 10/04/2020 11:49

Men wearing socks with sandals
Posers going 'jogging'. They are not jogging they are walking chatting and trying to look superfit and cool with their water bottles and designer sportswear.
Headbands on babies
Valances
People who pick their teeth
Bitten nails

motherheroic · 10/04/2020 11:52

Some of the things people are posting aren't even petty, just rants. These threads always veer off course!

ItsMsActually · 10/04/2020 12:04

People that say 'ooooh get you' in response to something you've done. It's really patronising and reverse-snobbish.

Inappropriatefemale · 10/04/2020 12:11

People that speak loudly, as if on purpose for everyone else to hear, on public transport.

People that don’t have their fares ready to put in on the bus.

People that hold up bus drivers due to asking for directions and they take ages about it.

Tourists during the Edinburgh festival going sightseeing and getting there by bus at peak times when everyone else is going to work, and again, they hold everyone up by asking driver for directions.

People that stand on buses when there is seats upstairs and for some reason they just won’t go upstairs, drivers on buses that don’t tell the standing passengers to either sit upstairs or get off.

You can tell buses annoy meGrin

People that queue jump.

People that air their dirty laundry on social media, “that bastard has no right to call himself a father as all he did was provide sperm”, Hmm fair enough there are useless fathers but how would your child feel when they’re older and they find out that you slagged their father off in such a public way.

Inappropriatefemale · 10/04/2020 12:12

Oh and people that speak quietly to the point where when your having a convo and your with them, then you have to ask them to keep repeating what they say, speak properly in the first place and you won’t be asked to repeat it.

Inappropriatefemale · 10/04/2020 12:12

My first one should be speaking on their phone whilst on public transport

Inappropriatefemale · 10/04/2020 12:14

@motherheroic I think some folks, including me, just want to rant for one reason or another!Wink

Bopalopashamalamadingdong · 10/04/2020 12:14

People that don’t drive. Sorrrrrrry!

Inappropriatefemale · 10/04/2020 12:15

People that wear lots of gold jewellery and all at the same time, it looks so chavy and it’s very 90s, Elizabeth Duke in Argos days with sovereigns springs to mindGrin.

Inappropriatefemale · 10/04/2020 12:16

Oh dear I don’t drive @Bopalopashamalamadingdong, my excuse is that I’ve mainly lived in the centre of town and there was no need to learn, I only moved to a quieter place last year so it is time to get driving, plus buses irritate the hell out of me!Grin

Inappropriatefemale · 10/04/2020 12:17

Working class snobs annoy the hell out of me, they act privileged and entitled with no reason to be and they look down on others.

Folks that are obsessed with class.

theschoolonthehill · 10/04/2020 12:20

Oh and people that speak quietly to the point where when your having a convo and your with them, then you have to ask them to keep repeating what they say, speak properly in the first place

This is an irritating one. I know a few people who prefer to speak in ‘hushed tones’ for some reason known only to them.

I have a friend who I only speak to these days on the phone. To do this, I have the volume up to the max on my phone and the phone on speaker. I still have to ask her to repeat herself. She is well able to speak in a natural voice.

Hagbeth · 10/04/2020 12:21

Males (any age) who wears skinny jeans! Yuck! Men with caps the wrong way around.
