To think that different pasta shapes have different flavours.

I know that it’s most likely all in my mind and influenced by the sauces they’re typically in. But, I do think that, for example, fettuccine tastes different to spaghetti.
And macaroni definitely tastes different to any other pasta.
So am I being unreasonable?

As an example the penis shaped ones taste of semen?

Stickybeaksid · 08/04/2020 21:11

No my dh also thinks this. He doesn’t like certain shapes because they taste funny. I think he is mad🤪

LittleLittleLittle · 08/04/2020 21:11

I think their shapes mean they absorb and are surrounded by sauces differently

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 08/04/2020 21:11

I would say the texture is different, but the taste is the same.

TheRealShatParp · 08/04/2020 21:12

They definitely taste different depending on shape! Not sure how, but it’s true.

Elouera · 08/04/2020 21:14

Read the ingredients! Exactly the same.

IHaveBrilloHair · 08/04/2020 21:14

No, not different flavours but different textures and some I don't like because the texture is all wrong.

nellythenarwhal · 08/04/2020 21:16

I think it's like flake tasting different to a dairy milk. The shape/texture makes it seem different imo

BestZebbie · 08/04/2020 21:17

You get more or less sauce:pasta per mouthful depending on shape, but I don’t think the supermarket pasta shapes aren’t different recipes (maybe between dry/fresh and the coloured ones if they are posh enough to have enough tomato or spinach in to notice).
The exception is ravioli, which is stuffed withthings that changes the flavour...

Davespecifico · 08/04/2020 21:17

To be fair, it may be that the only macaroni I’ve ever tasted is a bit yellow, cheap and long life? But I do think macaroni tastes a bit macaroniish,

Sandwiches cut in 4 triangles taste different to sandwiches cut in 2 rectangular halves. YANBU

GrolliffetheDragon · 08/04/2020 21:19

Yanbu. They do taste different.

inwood · 08/04/2020 21:19

It's more to do with the texture and how he sauce sticks. Italians are very very particular about shapes with the right sauces!

Davespecifico · 08/04/2020 21:19

Nellythenarwhal - I think you’ve hit he nail on the head.
I’d like to know what any Italians think or know. Any Italians about?

BringMe, you made me choke on my drink then Smile

Mydogatemypurse · 08/04/2020 21:21

Absolutely

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/04/2020 21:21

But I do think macaroni tastes a bit macaroniish

Philosophy innit.

Read Plato's The Allegory of the Cave. Then think about what makes a chair a chair. Legs? No because a stool has legs and some chairs are a wave shape. Sitting? No, because a sofa can be sat on but a chair is still a chair if never sat upon.

Then think about the essential chairishness of chairs. Linked to said macaroniish qualities.

We'll get through lockdown together.

Cuddling57 · 08/04/2020 21:26

I'm with @midnightstar66 on this one.
YANBU

devildeepbluesea · 08/04/2020 21:27

It's the texture and how they interact with sauces and oils.

fandabbydozier · 08/04/2020 21:31

Yes yes yes! I can't explain why rigatoni and spaghetti are great but macaroni and any flat pasta just don't taste right but I'm often made to feel like I'm the weirdo! This is definitely a thing!

Davespecifico · 08/04/2020 21:38

Midnightstar - I agree with you about sandwiches. Triangles are very unctious.
Also, in the old days when I used to go to places, I remember waiting in the queue at Cafe Nero willing the staff to get me an edge piece of caramel shortbread rather than a middle. The edge had a kind of sticking up ridge that makes it taste better.

When i was pregnant I had a couple of weeks where all I wanted to eat was bow pasta...no idea why and other shapes just didn't do it for me!

I think it's about texture and how it felt in my mouth so I agree with you!

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 08/04/2020 21:44

No of course they dont but they are all differently sutable for certain sauces or dishes

AdaColeman · 08/04/2020 21:46

The triangular sandwich thing though is aesthetic I think. Smoked salmon &. cream cheese sandwiches should be triangles but sausage or
bacon sandwiches should be oblong.

Herts6789 · 08/04/2020 23:45

YANBU - I love rigatoni and linguine. I do not love fusilli!

Also fresh pasta legit tastes different, I prefer dry.
