To think my doctor is wrong and also shit?

I'm aware I do not have a medical degree, and she does, but I can't help but wonder.

2/3 months ago went in saying I have extreme period pain, and I'm sweating constantly at night. Cold sweats and I'm drenched so I have to get up about 4/5 times in a night to either wipe myself down or change etc.
She asked how my bowels were, I said fine, she then proceeded to diagnose me with IBS and give me peppermint capsules ??? I insisted on blood tests and they all came back fine.

So as of today, I'm still sweating buckets at night and it's at the point I'm delirious with lack of sleep. I phoned and explained everything, told her (new, different doctor) my periods are still extremely painful etc. She asked about my weight (so I gave her it, and my height) and she said my BMI is close to 30 so I'm obese, and that's what is causing the sweating. I said I've been this weight for years and I'm more muscle than fat etc and she said "I would recommend you lose 15kg and this should fix your problems. If not, come back"

That's it. End of story.

What the fuck?? I can't even register with a new Dr for a second opinion and there's only the 2 above doctors at my practice 😭

You are being fobbed off, I would insist on pelvic ultrasounds & a gynae referral. I suffered like you with horrific period pain & it took me collapsing & being taken to A & E to get anything done, I was referred through NHS choices to a lovely gynaecologist who admitted me for a laparoscopy, he found an ovarian cyst & endometriosis, removed the cyst & put me on Norethisterone to stop my periods, I chose to have a hysterectomy 6 months later as the Norethisterone didn't suit me & I wanted a permanent solution.

I haven’t had time to read all responses but I’m also thinking it’s hormonal. I’m having a similar issue although not exactly the same. I’ve always been convinced I’ve had a hormonal imbalance. I too was TTC for years and ended up doing ivf, having miscarriages and finally end of last year I gave birth to our miracle. We tried for 6 years though with no answers! Now the interesting part, while pregnant I felt bloody amazing! I had none of the achy joints, greasy skin and hair, no spots and no hot flushes and sweaty feet or palms and no moodiness. I’ve just had first period after birth and all that crap is now back ☹️ I am now even more convinced it’s hormonal and will be looking at getting some more in depth tests done. All my blood tests came back normal too, I don’t have PCOS, I had mild endometriosis which was dealt with by a laparoscopy before second ivf just in case but none of this made a difference. I think I might go private this time and hopefully I’ll get an answer and not be fobbed off like you and have to live with all this crap. Accupuncture helped my cycles a lot and periods became less painful so this might be good for easing the pain and might help you conceive too. They may have their own theories as to what might be going because accupuncture is used a lot by people TYC ivf and they may know others that have gone through similar to you.

Did she ask about any lumps and bumps? Unintentional weight loss? Recurrent viral infections?
Are the night sweats every night? Are you on any prescribed medication? Common side effect of some.
I think you should be asking for them to exclude other causes of persistant night sweats or atleast explain why they aren't concerned re that.
Good luck

Do you take any medication?

gypsywater · 10/06/2020 18:55

So you disagree with two different trained medical professionals? What's the point in attending if you dont trust them?

GirlCalledJames · 11/06/2020 09:31

Night sweats are a symptom of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma so perhaps look at the other symptoms of that.
