A man shouted at me in the woods

Walking my dog in the woods as I normally would (I go there because it’s quiet, spacious and we usually see nobody else) and a man who was also walking his dog there started ranting and raving that ‘all of you people need to go home and stop coming here, we don’t want you here, don’t you understand anything about the virus?!’

Note that my dog was under control and did not approach him or his dog (too busy sniffing trees). We were several metres from them.

For reference, I am a nurse looking after Covid patients so apart from going to work and coming home, I am doing nothing except walking my dog once a day so we can both get some fresh air.

AIBU for walking my dog alone in the woods by my house?! This man seemed to forget he was ALSO OUT WALKING.

Came up behind a lady in the middle of the supermarket aisle yesterday not doing anything, just standing there. I waited for a minute or so then politely asked if she could move over to on side so I could get past leaving as much room as possible. She turned and glared at me through her full face mask and googles and accused me of trying to kill her! She finished up saying I was going to die too.

TotorosFurryBehind · 07/04/2020 20:56

I bet he wouldn't have shouted at another man. What an ass, shouting at a lone woman in a secluded location.

Bringringbring12 · 07/04/2020 20:59

Staplehurst?!

Nutter. YANBU enjoy your fresh air. X

What a total twat. Ugh I can't bear people like this... I live in a rural area and it's still quiet but there are one or two extra people out. It's good to see them outside and appreciating the beautiful countryside.

Afraid not. Judging by her attire of face mask, googles, scarf, gloves and then seeing her at the check out using hand cleaner (on her gloves) after using the pin machine she may be a Germophobe perhaps - not necessarily a bad thing at the moment Smile

Mistystar99 · 07/04/2020 21:24

Arsehole men are loving the chance to openly shout at women and kids and feel they are righteous. Twats. They wouldn't shout at a massive burly bloke.

littlemixarerubbish · 07/04/2020 21:39

@CaptainCabinets just lots of similarities! My mum lives in a non touristy village in the south east beginning with S with woods right behind the primary school. I'm on the local FB page just so I can keep in contact with the local assistance groups. But sadly recently there have be lots of shaming posts of people "not following the rules" (an obvious family with kids sitting on a bench with bikes next to them, how very dare they?). Must be a lot of it going on!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/04/2020 04:53

I told him the above and that we were local and he said he’d never seen us before.

Does he think he's God? What arrogance. Is he the same sort who never bothers to indicate because "But I always turn right here every Wednesday afternoon" ?

People like him make me annoyed and pitying in equal measure: folk who genuinely think that only things they personally have observed could possibly have really happened. There are a lot of them on MN....

She's another of these people who only sees things from her own perspective. She's in her aisle of the supermarket and you are threatening her safety by intruding. It doesn't occur to her that she could also be a risk to you. I'll bet she's one of those people who reacts angrily when caught in congestion, furious at why so many people have to be using the road when she is using it.

Find the FB page OP and post in all innocence about what a lifesaver it is to live near the woods and to be able to go for a quiet walk whilst taking a break from SAVING LIVES. You could comment about how lovely and empty the woods are at the moment, although sadly there was one very shouty man but you think he might have been a tourist Grin

mathanxiety · 08/04/2020 05:22

He thinks they are his woods.

mathanxiety · 08/04/2020 05:23

Bless...

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/04/2020 06:06

The area isn't called Twittlebee Woods, is it....?

I wonder what happened there. I do so hope the nasty thieves got their comeuppance and Twittlebee got her rightful family property back.

TidyDancer · 08/04/2020 06:17

I live right by a country park. I take my dog there all the time under usual circumstances but every day at the moment it seems to be packed with idiots who have driven there just for a walk. Missing the point spectacularly about non essential journeys. I saw a Facebook post giving tips about which local roads to park in now the official car park has been closed. You know, the one they closed to stop people from driving there? 🙄

You can't fight stupid OP, and that man was definitely that.

rwalker · 08/04/2020 06:22

this is perfect

Really sorry you experienced this - please just ignore him. Bless you for putting your own health at risk at work looking after Covid patients. Not excusing him for a second but he was probably scared and it was coming out as anger. Prat. I'd find it helpful to imagine him as a helpless patient and me looming over him wielding a satisfyingly large needle but then that's just me! Thank you for all you're doing x

IsolationBoredom · 08/04/2020 09:31

@CaptainCabinets
No need for the emoji when I didn’t say anything wrong! I said it was ‘funny’ meaning in a “what a small world sort of way” as I thought the other 2 posters also had it right.

Even 2 of you people on the one thread is unusual

user1471500037 · 08/04/2020 10:03

If a man shouts in the woods - does he really make a sound?

morecoffeerequired · 08/04/2020 14:59

@user1471500037 Grin

CaptainCabinets · 08/04/2020 16:22

That made me laugh Grin

I’m on night shift tonight so the pup and I are off to the woods for a run around just now...wonder if we’ll see Mr Crazy again! Shock

We went earlier and no shouty men, just a few families enjoying the sun (well spaced apart)

MsTSwift · 08/04/2020 18:27

Weirdo op dont give him a second thought. Agree sadly the situation seems to have empowered some very unpleasant little Hitler tendencies amongst some men. Funny they never seem to “enforce the rules” to other men larger than they are...
