A man shouted at me in the woods

Walking my dog in the woods as I normally would (I go there because it’s quiet, spacious and we usually see nobody else) and a man who was also walking his dog there started ranting and raving that ‘all of you people need to go home and stop coming here, we don’t want you here, don’t you understand anything about the virus?!’

Note that my dog was under control and did not approach him or his dog (too busy sniffing trees). We were several metres from them.

For reference, I am a nurse looking after Covid patients so apart from going to work and coming home, I am doing nothing except walking my dog once a day so we can both get some fresh air.

AIBU for walking my dog alone in the woods by my house?! This man seemed to forget he was ALSO OUT WALKING.

Yeah. He was bu. I would get it if you were some beauty spot

Littlebelina · 07/04/2020 19:28

The post has gone now :( suspect he was overwhelmed with folks pointing out he was an idiot!

CuriousCatCatcher · 07/04/2020 19:28

Ooh he is a knobhead.

Littlebelina · 07/04/2020 19:30

I was going to take my kids in there for a walk tomorrow but maybe I'll wait a dayWink. It might set him off again

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 07/04/2020 19:32

Definitely YANBU!

And how local you are,how far you travelled , how long you were there etc is completely irrelevant. Nothing gives him the right to shout at you and abuse you. Nothing gives him the right to interrogate you. Nothing gives him the right to declare himself unhinged guardian of the woods.

He's just a random being out , walking a dog just like you are. The only difference is only one of you has joined the competitive quarantining army.

Deathraystare · 07/04/2020 19:34

Don’t get me wrong, I am enraged by groups of people congregating but shouting at lone women walking their dogs in secluded woods is not high on my agenda confused

He would hardly yell at a bunch of men - it is only lone women thaat are always targeted for anything!

agonyauntie2020 · 07/04/2020 19:35

Littlebelina I think that you not going might be giving in to him - he has no more right to be there being shouty than either of you two ladies on the forum.

If it's not crowded and is a safe and nice space to walk, I'd still go and just convey to him that HE is free to stay home if he doesn't want to see another person in the public woods.

If they really are crowded, common sense says give them a miss...

BrightYellowDaffodil · 07/04/2020 19:35

He's a bellend. Ignore - the current situation is making the loons even loonier.

Deathraystare · 07/04/2020 19:35

I was going to take my kids in there for a walk tomorrow but maybe I'll wait a daywink. It might set him off again

Get in first and shout at him!

BMW6 · 07/04/2020 19:41

The woods are local to you so you have as much right to be there as he does (IF he is local himself).

If you come across him again tell him it is perfectly fine for locals to walk there, and as you ARE local he can get to fuck.

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/04/2020 19:44

Surely the woods will be busier anyway even in normal circumstances due to the lovely weather. It’s perhaps more so than normal for a week day due to people not working. Busier also as school children would be off for Easter.

LilacTree1 · 07/04/2020 19:44

What a tool

I’d be tempted to use that corona reporting line to ask someone to have words with him!

Whenwillthisbeover · 07/04/2020 19:47

Fuck that, i would have said “are these your woods? And told him what you do for a living and for him to expand on his neurotic comments”

I was in the Sainsbury’s queue yesterday and you should have seen the woman four people in front scowling at me and anyone else under the age of 70 and muttering to her DH.

She had clearly got the elderly time slot wrong.

And the woman who told me inside the chemist that i should wait outside, even though the sign on the door said that anyone with a collection slot (me) were the only people allowed to walk in.

Fucking fed up on with the coronapolice. Especially when you stringently read and follow the rules.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 07/04/2020 19:49

This virus is unfortunately giving arseholes a perfect excuse to act like even bigger arseholes than usual - there are certain types of people who will be positively getting off on taking some kind of delusional moral high ground - there are plenty of threads about it!

Pickledlegs · 07/04/2020 19:50

This crisis has brought out a lot of hypocrites who have no idea that they are complete hypocrites.

CaptainCabinets · 07/04/2020 19:51

The thing is, they’re not busy in the slightest! We saw nobody apart from Mr Crazy. I got some lovely photos of the sunlight through the trees and of all the bluebells springing up Smile and there isn’t a single person in any of my shots! All you can hear there is birdsong and twigs underfoot, it’s lovely.

Deathraystare is right, if you see him again, shout at him first. 😂

UYScuti · 07/04/2020 19:52

I would not get into a confrontation with a nutter who approached me in the woods, I'd humour him and make a quick getaway!

LilacTree1 · 07/04/2020 19:53

How amazing to have woods so close, am jealous!

Boredbumhead · 07/04/2020 19:55

There seems to be a rise of this type of person. Going out and about but telling everyone else to do so.

iheartislesofwight · 07/04/2020 19:58

a lot of these gobby tossers seem to be men, possibly with very small penises Grin

Littlebelina · 07/04/2020 20:00

He was claiming he always walked the dog at that time so we'd probably miss him anyway (as we tend to go out earlier), unless he is going out more than once. Now captain has said the bluebells are out might have a look. Love bluebells

LoopyLouLouLou · 07/04/2020 20:01

But he was there too? Grin idiot! I would have shouted back “what the fuck are you doing here then?”

Fromthebirdsnest · 07/04/2020 20:02

clearly batshit op, shouting at you for walking your dog whilst walking his ? , thank you for everything you've been doing for us your amazing x

Mawbags · 07/04/2020 20:03

We live near v nice woods and our street is now so busy we're driving elsewhere for exercise. There's constant people, I've never seen it so busy. Maybe he's just reached his own tipping point.... He's probably already quite stressed no doubt
