Drinking and eating during lockdown

Wondering if anyone else is drinking and eating much more (daily for me) than usual in view of the current state of things? I’m not usually a big drinker or someone to binge on junk food but at the moment I feel as though eating crap and having a few drinks at the end of the day (well, afternoon Blush) is one of the only things I have to keep me going. The news is utterly depressing, I’m bored of being stuck indoors and as someone who is used to socialising regularly and travelling a lot for work, alcohol and food are serving as a welcome distraction from all this madness at the moment. In an attempt to make myself feel less guilty about the state of my waistline and liver...Please tell me I’m not alone?! Shock

I was doing so well re pregnancy weight gain but now I’m just deleting biscuits left right and centre, and baking delicious cake I’m then stuffing in my gaping maw.

God only knows if I were not pregnant and able to attack the cases of wine/champagne 🤦🏻‍♀️

YANBU

CanofCant · 07/04/2020 16:20

No, you are not alone! I am getting a handle on it this week though. I think it will be less of an issue the more I am used to being indoors and learn to do something other than visit the fridge.

KitKat1985 · 07/04/2020 16:20

I was on a diet but gave up soon after lockdown started. I've not gone nuts, but my head isn't in weight loss right now. I also used to be a 'glass of wine a couple of nights a week' person, but now I'm a 'glass of wine every evening person'.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 07/04/2020 16:20

Yanbu.

I've gone from 1 bottle of wine a week to 3. And one or two G&Ts to at least 4.

I'm drinking 1.3million mugs of tea a day. I'm eating breakfast which I never uses to but it's making me more hungry.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 07/04/2020 16:23

I'm eating more and feeding up the dcs in case we're ill as we all tend towards skinny.

Some people lose a lot of weight with covid,

Especially eating better since we have finally managed to get food deliveries, thank goodness.

misskick · 07/04/2020 16:23

Drank the first week every night, and havent stopped snacking in between meals. Made cheese cake and filled them in easter eggs, didnt even wait the 24hrs for cheese cake to set, I ate them lol. I've recently lost 2 stone and already gained 6lb of it back during lockdown.

scattercushion17 · 07/04/2020 16:24

I'm with you.

Normally I'm a snacker rather than a drinker but I'm now having a nightly cider if gin. I'm trying not to let it become more.

I'm trying to avoid the snacks.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 07/04/2020 16:24

I'm drinking more tea than normal. I bought some chocolate & mint and some chocolate tea and it is actually really nice!

I'm eating about the same I think, as are my dc despite the constant requests for snacks, but dh is constantly grazing.

WaterIsWide · 07/04/2020 16:27

I made a pact with myself that I would use the time to do exercise. I've got exercise dvds and plenty of You Tube workouts bookmarked to do at home.

The only reason I'm eating less is because I'm mindful of what I eat. So, same normal meals and snacks but being careful. I'm not using the lockdown as an excuse to binge eat.

I don't really drink alcohol as I don't really like it. So my weekend drinking is as modest as ever.

This thread is going to turn into a bun fight. Oh, no it won't. Buns aren't considered essential. Why whom ? Oh, ok, a hot cross bun fight.

This post is neither virtue signalling, nor goady or anything else. It's just me.

DH and I are eating exactly what we ate prior to lockdown because we always had our breakfast and evening meal at home. We both made sandwiches to take to work.

AmelieTaylor · 07/04/2020 16:28

No. But I don't blame you at all!!

I'm diabetic & use diet & exercise to control it. No medication. It (with my high blood pressure & being overweight) puts me in a bad situation if I get CV. So it's very much focussing my mind on sticking to my very low carb way of eating.

I'm very grateful I've so far been able to get lots of fresh veg, if I can't, it'll be dreadful. - so need to do what I can, while I can

If it wasn't for that thought I'd be baking & eating other nice food & once I start on carbs it's a fast road to Carby twattery!! 🙄🤣

wink1970 · 07/04/2020 16:31

Pretty much the same, though I did finish early on Friday (4pm) and had a very large drink, which would normally be 6pm.

On the plus side, DH wants to go for a brisk walk each day (he's been furloughed) which is great as I am missing the gym.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 07/04/2020 16:33

I think I'm probably eating more because I'm not in school and can therefore eat when I feel like it - at work I often don't have time for lunch, or simply bolt down a sandwich on the go.

We are eating better though, to a certain extent, because I've got time to prepare salads/proper meals. What I'm struggling with is I usually try and follow a fairly low carb diet and that has gone out of the window simply because it feels wasteful to decide I want something specific, or not eat what the others are having. Last night's tea, for example, was home made pie and jacket potatoes. The pie was puff pastry (out the freezer) and filled with the remains of a cooked chicken, leeks, stuffing and anything else that was lying around. Add to that the fact that I heaped 2 tbsp of flour into the filling and added stock and cream and it wasn't a remotely low carb friendly meal.

It was tasty though!

yearinyearout · 07/04/2020 16:36

Yes we keep baking in the afternoons...then of course we have no visitors to share with so have to eat it all. Oh well, not going to be needing a bikini body anytime soon.

lubeybooby · 07/04/2020 16:37

I was eating more for a little while but I've made myself get a grip now. I don't drink so not a problem there.

WaterIsWide · 07/04/2020 16:37

Carby twattery

How long till someone nabs that as a user name ? Smile

inwood · 07/04/2020 16:40

I'm eating out of boredom, I know I am but still bloody do it. Have been working out 2-3 x a day but not enough to negate the food.

Probably drinking a little less as my work was very social.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 07/04/2020 16:41

yep. Eating more. Having more wine. (although now have a "every other day" rule, even for 1 small glass with dinner). Doing less exercise because DH is working FT from home, so I really can't get out without the DCs for more than an hour and that's not really enough time to do anywhere near as much as I did before, and the kids will insist on wanting my attention so can't really do exercise videos (other than really smash the PE with Joe each morning!)

I'm feeling sluggish and my 'spring' jeans are too tight.

Trying to use week 3 to shift a bit of the gain from weeks 1 & 2, but fear this is proving harder as it feels rather miserable this week without adding in self denial.

We also keep baking. We've made what are frankly spectacular chocolate chip and blueberry muffins. They are talking to me right now...

fitflopqueen · 07/04/2020 16:44

Having a husband and one 23 yr old son at home 24/7 has now required some meal planning.
Alcohol consumption hasn't really changed, although now think I will chill some wine now for later!
Making a conscious effort to eat sensibly with lots of fruit/veg to stay healthy, usually make soup to have every lunchtime and bake sourdough for lunches 2-3 times/week.

Husband hitting the biscuits, he is wfh but keeps coming down for tea & snacks twenty billion times per day.
I keep baking but they seem to be in competition to eat up within 24 hrs..

Janaih · 07/04/2020 16:45

I've put on 10 pounds in 3 weeks. My dc is looking a bit chunkier too.

Whatever helps to get through it though. I can deal with it when we get out of lockdown.

MoonBaby1 · 07/04/2020 16:46

I’ve had three horrendous hangovers since we started isolating (pre lockdown). I’m an anxiety drinker so this is a nightmare for me!

Food wise dh is I’m charge of what we all eat and when (he’s a prepper, not controlling) so I’m eating a lot less than usual. He’s very skinny and eats a lot less than me so a bit of weight loss would be welcome!

MrsClatterbuck · 07/04/2020 16:46

I have actually managed to lose weight 5lbs approx so far. My appetite is just not the same to be honest.

forrasee · 07/04/2020 16:48

I was on a diet before lockdown and it was so tempting to give up. Everyone and their socially distanced nan seems to be making banana bread and then eating it on our team calls

But have had a word with myself! I've lost 30 pounds since January and didn't only come this far, to only come this far!

MrsClatterbuck · 07/04/2020 16:50

DH is missing the local bakery which tried to stay open but closed last week and are concentrating on supplying other shops.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 07/04/2020 16:51

I actually found the opposite. Shock
I have more time to think about what I eat so I actually eat better. I eat bit less now due to less activity and lack of money for new wardrobe...

I keep drinking to exactly as same as before. It's tempting to drink more. Very tempting... But DH works and I don't like to drink by myself much.

Lack of hangover helps to keep some regime. I have set hours for myself yo work even if thee is nothing to do.

Keeps my sanity going

bluegrasse · 07/04/2020 16:53

I'm eating less, no breakfast, a small lunch and then a normal dinner. I've not had anything like biscuits, crisps or chocolate for over three weeks because we are getting it all delivered and my self restraint is better when it's just pictures on a screen.
