Sorry if I'm being dim, but I don't think I understand.
What os so bad about being furloughed? As I understand it, you get 80% or £2.5k salary, and your job back when this is all over. Is that wrong?

Thank you @help1653 that’s very encouraging and would really make a huge difference to us. Let’s hope the process is up and running soon and it becomes a little clearer what we’ll be paid.

My partner is a bus driver, I'm pregnant and asthmatic...we both want his company to let him be one of the staff that gets furlough. But we know he will have a job to go back to after as it is the main bus company in our town.

blubellsarebells · 06/04/2020 23:11

I work in a restaurant and tips make up about 30% of my earnings every month.
Im losing more than 20%, but without spending money going out, petrol, parking, childcare i should just about get through this unscathed if I have a job to go back to.
Im glad to be safe at home but i miss my job and my colleagues and will be absolutely gutted if we dont get through this, at the moment im confident but the longer it goes on the more im having moments of doubt.

autumnmum · 06/04/2020 23:23

About half my colleagues are being furloughed but my company is making their pay up to 100%. I'm not being furloughed as my role is specialist. However I am now expected to cover additional work that furloughed colleagues would have done. I am finding this quite difficult to swallow as I am also having to deal with kids at home and self isolating relatives. I'm a bit sick of hearing about people enjoying their slower pace of life - I'm busier than I've ever been.

WeirdAndPissedOff · 06/04/2020 23:44

@autumnmum I feel you! Flowers
I've been struggling with my motivation for months as I "survived" a redundancy only to have all the parts of my job that I liked replaced with the crappiest parts of the redundant staff members' jobs (for a much smaller salary than them, hence why I'm still here).
I was already overloaded and resentful, but now I'm dealing with the fallout of CV in the business on top, the collision of several big deadlines from what used to be different roles on top of working from home. My motivation's through the floor, I'm struggling to get any work done, and the relatives I live with alternate between gushing about how much they're enjoying having time for hobbies and renovations etc now they're furloughed, and loudly tearing strips out of each other. EnvyAngry

I'd give anything to be furloughed right now, but as I'm the only one left who can do my departments work I'm stuck here. Meanwhile other employees are facing losing money they can't afford as they want to work but are being furloughed - it just feels so strange.

That said, I and my family have our health and we're scraping by financially for now, so really I suppose we ought to be counting our blessings.

Tesbel · 06/04/2020 23:44

Anyone being asked to still work whilst furloughed should be reporting their employer right away. It is absolutely not allowed and if you have been furloughed you have to be off work for a minimum of 3 weeks.

autumnmum · 07/04/2020 09:01

@WeirdAndPissedOff you are right we are both in work and I suppose it is nice to be needed 🤔. I'm not worried about losing my job and the bills are getting paid. It's just if one more person recommends me a box set I'm going to scream 😂

Trichinella · 07/04/2020 09:09

I’m furloughed. It’s a small company and I love my job. I’d rather this, with a job to come back to, than be made redundant. I’m expecting things to pick up once this is over.
It’s not easy but what’s the alternative?

WeirdAndPissedOff · 07/04/2020 21:08

Thank you, Gin - I've signed.

Gin96 · 08/04/2020 08:06

@WeirdAndPissedOff thank you 💕

SnapAndFartAllDayLong · 08/04/2020 08:26

I only work part time and earn £100 per week. I don't qualify for furlough 😭😭 so I'm pretty much screwed when my employers shuts which will happen in the next week or so as not enough work coming in.

Nochangeplease · 08/04/2020 16:57

Why don’t you qualify?

SnapAndFartAllDayLong · 08/04/2020 18:03

As I don't earn £118 per week apparently 🙄🙄

Dishwashersaurous · 08/04/2020 18:08

Is it because you don’t pay national insurance?

Wasail · 08/04/2020 18:10

Three of my employees earn less that £118 per week, I have furloughed them. They are getting 80%. I don’t think that is correct Snap

Changeofname79 · 08/04/2020 18:21

My DH is losing 50% of his salary as he earns over the capped amount. We will not be destitute but we have certain fixed bills to pay so it's not a walk in the park like some are suggesting. If you earn £60k for instance you are likely to live to your means so it's not like you have all this money laying around. To be fair we will be ok as I work also but there will be some for whom it is their only income as the other person looks after DCs etc.

You definitely can get another job if you are furloughed however like pps have mentioned your company have to agree this. It's a tricky one as if (like my DH hopes to) you go and work in a supermarket or something you are being exposed to the virus every day and your company may want you return at any time so they may not be happy with that risk. My DH was told as long as it's not a job where he can be physically injured they are happy.

Trying81 · 08/04/2020 18:31

There are no qualifying earnings parameters for furlough, they’re thinking of SSP @SnapAndFartAllDayLong

So long as you were on their payroll at 28 Feb you qualify

Greenlorry · 08/05/2020 09:44

@YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan can you not get a sick note from your GP? I know people personally who have Asthma and have been told to stay at home for 12 weeks and they will be paid their full wage still working for NHS.
