The UK governments keep shooting themselves in the foot?

I mean really, I know how serious this is, I work front line, so why are the government seemingly making a mockery of it all? First, the Cabinet and senior medical advisors all clearly ignored their own social distancing guidance and spread Covid around each other. Then they announce lockdown and insist (which it is) its the best thing to do to stop the disease, then the Scottish Medical Advisor is seen ignoring her own advice going out on non essential overnight trips. Then Boris is so ill with Covid-19 that he is admitted to hospital, but its OK, he's not ill enough to stop running the country. Ffs man, if you want people to take it seriously, you need to show them it is serious, not something you can run a country through. And finally, Boris is in good spirits running the country (despite being hospitalised from Covid-19) but hasn't actually spoken to his 2nd in command for over 48 hours!!

FFS, AIBU to think that they are sending out conflicting messages? So many people don't believe how serious it is, and that it's a conspiracy to take away our rights, and then they do shit like this?

Wow, if only you were in charge it would go so much better, OP.

Those guys are such a bunch of amateurs.

Whyhaveidonethis · 06/04/2020 19:02

Oh @PersonaNonGarter it would be, at least I'd be able to follow my own advice.

astropoodle · 06/04/2020 19:07

I don't believe for a minute it's a conspiracy and I fail to see how anybody on the NHS front line could think it is. I do agree that some individuals haven't behaved appropriately, hence how they have had to resign.

RonnieBarkingMad · 06/04/2020 19:31

Was @PersonaNonGarter being serious? I thought they were being sarcastic, that’s how I took it.

I think your OP is very naive.

LavenderQuartz · 06/04/2020 19:31

isn't Raab in hospital now as well??

ofwarren · 06/04/2020 19:34

@LavenderQuartz where did you hear that about Raab? I haven't seen that.

BootShakin · 06/04/2020 19:34

I am cynical but I think Boris is trying his best. And I used to think he was a clown. That Scottish chief medical officer however.. She deserved to be sacked.

SorrelBlackbeak · 06/04/2020 19:36

Raab did the update today at 5pm with Chris Whitty. If he's been taken to hospital it isn't going to be CV.

Sirzy · 06/04/2020 19:37

As he has been ill for 10 days and the incubation period is believed to be 14 days then they were most likely infected long before the social distancing measures came in.

Of course the Pm is going to step back at a time like this unless he really needs to do so. And with technology available then if he is able to be will

Whyhaveidonethis · 06/04/2020 19:40

@astropoodle I absolutely don't think it is a conspiracy. It fucking isn't. I'm seeing this in real time, large as life. I'm donning inadequate PPE to treat seriously ill patients. I wish the bloody government would actually stop making it seem like its nothing.

OP posts:
Iwantacookie · 06/04/2020 19:58

I hadn't thought about it before but your right op. If boris can still run the country from a hospital bed then people wont think it's that bad. Not sure theres any conspiracy though I think Boris just likes his job too much to let anyone else step in.

Zilla1 · 06/04/2020 20:06

whyhave, no/wrong PPE here in primary. Have had to stop throwing objects at radio and tv for weeks when government have mislead about availability of correct, unexpired/comedy stickered PPE for weeks.

have spoken to agent about working at nightingale units as they said there was a firm promise of adequate PPE. Also accommodation so won't have risk of bringing it back and guilt of infecting the family.

Clavinova · 06/04/2020 20:07

And I don't think you you can blame No 10 for Scotland's Chief Medical Officer - Nicola Sturgeon backed her yesterday and then asked her to resign.

Crunchymum · 06/04/2020 20:10

Not sure if its correct or not but if incubation period is 14 days, BJ could have been infected up to 24 days ago? Were we social distancing then?

And BJ has been taken to intensive care.

Sirzy · 06/04/2020 20:15

Rabb has been asked to deputise while Johnson is in ITU. Nothing in the statement to suggest Rabb is in hospital

dementedpixie · 06/04/2020 20:15

Where have you seen that news?

Jellykat · 06/04/2020 20:15

Cant see how Raab is in hospital, he only did the daily briefing a few hours ago!

WellWhyNot · 06/04/2020 20:16

Is Raab in hospital @Crunchymum? Haven’t seen anything on the main news websites on this. Or anything about Boris Johnson being in intensive care!

Darbs76 · 06/04/2020 20:17

Not spoken to means on the phone. Of course they’ve been in touch. But I do agree Boris needs to down tools and trust Dominic Raab. People would respect him more if he did, as like you say doesn’t create a good impression - eg do we really want people continuing to work when sick?

Crunchymum · 06/04/2020 20:17

I may have misread about Raab (sure I saw it but must be wrong. Sorry!)

Sky News reporting about BJ though.

I got the breaking news about Boris in ITU but not that Dominic Rabb is in hospital
