To feel like I want a glass of wine most evenings at the moment

I normally have a glass of wine Thursday/Friday and Saturday. Sometimes one on a Sunday with lunch. A glass is enough for me. I enjoy it and it relaxes me. I'm starting to wonder if I'm getting into a bad habit. I had two nights off last week. I've drunk one glass every night since Thursday. Is anyone else drinking a bit more? It's not to get drunk- something to look forward to

I WANT alcohol but am minimising as it’s a depressant and I have MH issues.

Namelesswonder · 06/04/2020 17:56

Definitely not just you. Seems reasonable just now. Although I’m trying to have 3 none drinking nights a week to allow my liver time off.

Stet · 06/04/2020 17:58

I have a glass of red every night while cooking dinner and listening to the radio. Bliss!

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 06/04/2020 17:58

I realised last week I'd had a drink every night for the past month, which is really unlike me! I'm going booze free until Friday this week, but to be honest I agree that one glass of wine a night doesn't hurt. Just felt like I should take a break.

ClapForCats · 06/04/2020 18:01

Definitely drinking more at the moment, and starting mid-afternoon, not in the evening.

CatBatCat · 06/04/2020 18:05

I'm with you there. Tonight I've run out of wine or cider and I'm eyeing up the bottle of fancy champagne that was given for a gift which we were saving to celebrate our home move but had to be postponed due to cuntycovid.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 06/04/2020 18:06

Yep, you're not alone.
I often feel like a glass by mid afternoon (or late morning some days!) I obviously don't as my kids are still tiny but I've definitely had an extra bottle or two over the last few weeks. Im not typically a big drinker either.

Im trying to hold off until the weekend though as it's Bank Holiday so would prefer to enjoy it more then.

Enjoy a glass and don't feel guilty. It's a difficult time at the moment.

BrandyandBabycham · 06/04/2020 18:13

YADNBU. Apart from yesterday when I bought a bottle of wine, I haven’t drunk alcohol at all. But then I have a drink problem & it’s unfortunately all or nothing for me & I couldn’t stop at one glass. Enjoy it OP. We need our pleasures at the moment that’s for sure! 🥂🍾

Bargebill19 · 06/04/2020 18:14

Yep same here. Get in from work and drink tea eat dinner and wonder if a glass of plonk or whatever is in the cupboard is ok...... I normally only drink once or twice a year - birthdays and Christmas. At this rate I’ll have to start a drink shed.

notalwaysalondoner · 06/04/2020 18:22

At start of lockdown DH and I agreed we’d only drink on Fridays and Saturdays.

Drank 5/7 nights the first week and 6/7 last week...

Oh well. My 98 year old granny is staying with us and thinks it’s bonkers and unnecessary self-deprivation to not have at least two drinks a night... she favours whiskey and ginger ale...

timeforawine · 06/04/2020 18:23

I normally have a couple on a Friday and Saturday, have now added Wednesday...
Trying to keep it to that but not feeling guilty at all if i have another night occasionally after a crap day

amy85 · 06/04/2020 19:24

Glad it's not just me 😂

Carbosug · 06/04/2020 20:02

Yep. Staying with my mum during this as she's very vulnerable nd I'm sure she must think I'm an alcoholic Smile

MyBabyBoyBlue · 06/04/2020 20:06

Totally with you, I've just poured myself a gin and tonic!

Meggie2008 · 06/04/2020 20:09

I've had a drink almost every night for the last two weeks 🙄 one drink, and never want another, but still think it's getting a bit excessive 😂

dudsville · 06/04/2020 20:13

The only nights i have alcohol free atm are those following having overdone it the night before. I'll need to do a "dry january" once this is over!

eurochick · 06/04/2020 20:15

I'm the same. Before this shyte started I limited drinking to weekends and work events (too horrific to contemplate without a glass of wine in hand). Now I'm having a drink every night.

GettingAwayWithIt · 06/04/2020 20:18

Good to know it’s not just me Wine

I’ve had a few days off work so had wine every night. I’m back tomorrow so have had a dry day Blush Only in two days this week so I anticipate next (long) weekend will be the same.

I’m still getting out for my daily exercise and as long as I don’t start putting weight on from having an extra bottle of wine a week, I’ll continue to enjoy it.

Ghostlyglow · 06/04/2020 20:58

YANBU. We started off saying we wouldn't drink every night.
We drink every night.

StillWeRise · 06/04/2020 21:05

was doing this anyway, so I suppose it's a win that I'm not drinking more than usual

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/04/2020 21:10

I am so so tempted to have a drink tonight, but a)my family will judge and b) I'm supposed to really limit how much I drink on my meds.

I even eyed up the night nurse this evening, but thought that would be a Bad Idea. A glass of wine would really hit the spot.

shinynewapple2020 · 06/04/2020 21:14

The same OP, normally a very small glass 3 days a week, I've had a large one every day since this started. Felling really crap today and realised I e probably got a bit of hangover - so giving it a miss tonight.

Every day I've been really anxious, imagining symptoms and the wine makes me feel better.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 06/04/2020 21:15

I barely drank before this nonsense. I'm drinking most nights now. Not running much anymore either. Going to emerge a stone heavier

doadeer · 06/04/2020 21:17

I have a g&t every night but just one. I don't think it's that bad, I don't drink more at the weekends as I have a baby but I enjoy my one!

Checkyspeck · 06/04/2020 21:25

You are not alone. Our recycle bin is awash with empty wine and beer bottles, and pizza boxes! Weird times, do whatever helps!
