I have to collect a prescription from Superdrug today.
My lipstick has ran out (I know first world problems )
Would I be unreasonable to grab one whilst in Superdrug collecting prescription.
I don't want anyone to think I'm not taking this lockdown seriously and being a idiot buying lipstick when it's not essential.
I have anxiety so worry about stupid things.
What would you do ?

My local Boots are doing prescriptions and medicines only. Can't buy anything else

The bastards. I will soon be in urgent need of eye make-up remover, and their Botanics one is the best I've found for getting rid of waterproof mascara without making my eyes sting or making the skin round them dry and sore.

It's essential, I tell you!

Alsohuman · 06/04/2020 19:26

This is what they’re saying about online purchases. How convenient that only “premium” make up is available.

To help everyone have access to healthcare and essential items, some of the following items are currently unavailable to purchase online:

• Selected fragrance

• Selected electrical beauty

• Selected make-up (premium beauty items are still available to purchase online)

• Selected hair and make-up accessories

We will be back offering our full range of products soon.

Products aside from the above are all available to buy online, there may be some restrictions on how many you can purchase.

MrsGrindah · 06/04/2020 20:04

But it doesn’t say what the store policy is?

cologne4711 · 06/04/2020 20:20

I walked past my local Superdrug today and they seemed to only be allowing one person in at a time. It has a pharmacy and I couldn't see if they were letting people buy other things.

So if Boots are not selling anything other than pharmacy and medicines, are they also stopping you buying toothpaste and sanitary protection (and if the latter, how typical that they are stopping women buying something they need).

MrsGrindah · 06/04/2020 20:29

Incredulous if any idiot has designated sanitary protection as non essential!

StealthMama · 06/04/2020 21:00

I don't get where this 'essential shopping' comes from. The guidelines says 'essential journeys' for 'basic items'. They cannot define what is essential at this low level and some shopping keeps trade going.

Some shopkeepers we're saying the same about Easter eggs. Totally mis interpreted the guidelines.

GreenTulips · 07/04/2020 00:38

The thing is, as others have pointed out a lot of pharmacies are now only open to dispense medication

Not all Superdrug stores have pharmacies

MamaJules34 · 07/04/2020 00:39

Jesus.

I am not taking this lockdown serious enough.

I'd go to Superdrug just for the lippy.

I'm so bored Sad

MamaJules34 · 07/04/2020 00:40

That was sarcasm before someone attacks me.

Boots tweeted earlier today that the sign up on the door of one of its stores was wrong, and they were going to get it taken down. They confirmed that tampons and towels can continue to be bought.

I wondered if the make up aisles might be closed as they are places where you're more likely to linger, but maybe it's part of the 'non essential' thing.

lyralalala · 07/04/2020 01:01

The Superdrug in the village here is only doing prescriptions or over the counter medicines. They have so many more prescriptions than usual because people are getting them faxed/sent there from the GP that they don't have staff to man the rest of the shop. They're either dealing with the queue system, serving people collecting prescriptions or unpacking medicine deliveries.

dreamingdream · 07/04/2020 02:19

Which lipstick is it? Which lipstick colour? Is it matte or glossy?

I want nail polish but I'm just waiting for this crisis to end and things get back to normal. I got no nail polish now. Staying home, saving lives.

echt · 07/04/2020 02:46

When shit looked about to kick off about five weeks ago ( Au), I made a special trip to a big shopping centre to get my favourite, not widely available, lippy. There were only two left. I bought both of them, so frivolous and stockpiling. As I said to the assistant: "I'll feel better facing the apocalypse with top lippy." She nodded sagely (and was wearing very nice lipstick herself)

Of course I made sure the shop included other needful things, to cut down on travelling and multiple shops.

I don't see what the problem is: if what you want is essentially "extra" and you're in the shop for "vital" stuff, get both.

If we all went down the silly extension of what is "needed". I'd be tutting at those who buy biscuits, cereal, cakes as I never buy them, and rationally, no-one needs them Ever. And milk; no human needs it after weaning.

browzingss · 07/04/2020 03:21

Not all Superdrug or Boots stores have cordoned off sections - it’s down to the individual store’s discretion. All stores will have removed testers though, and there will be signs essentially asking you not to open products for testers, which has the implication of ‘select what you need and pay, no lingering’ in my opinion. Because sometimes customers swatch etc before making a decision.

If the shop has cordoned off certain aisles, they may still allow you to buy a “restricted” product. I asked the lady at the till for something at Boots and she was fine about it.

I agree with selecting your lipstick and paying for it at the pharmacy till alongside your prescription.

browzingss · 07/04/2020 03:29

I have visited 2 different high streets since lockdown, each with a Boots and Superdrug. I live in a large city so each store was mid-large.

Only 2 stores had a queuing system to enter. Neither Superdrug had cordoned off anything.

1 Boots did cordon off sections, basically just the basic shower gel/soap, female sanitation and dental care aisles are accessible, with all healthcare and pharmacy section open as normal. So everything else - makeup, fragrance, hair care, hair removal, brands (soap and glory etc), gifts etc were inaccessible.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/04/2020 03:46

It's going to be really interesting to see if this pandemic has any effect on women's 'essentials'. Because having hair that's dyed and a bald fanny and perfect teeth and proper make up and eyebrows and eyelashes and feet and nails and on and on has been a feature of womanhood for so long. I'm not saying everyone joins in but it is a feature of female existence. Even if you reject it.

They're not condoning off razors and shower gel for men, are they? And neither of them is actually essential.

If you haven't worn a bra, heels or make up for three weeks in your house, you weren't actually doing it 'for yourself' were you?

Imstillskanking · 07/04/2020 03:58

If they are still selling it and you have to go there anyway then just buy it.

People on here are nuts.

avamiah · 07/04/2020 04:00

Just order it online or something similar .

My favourite lipstick was discontinued almost twenty years ago. I’m still not over it. So I can relate. 😂😂😂

echt · 07/04/2020 05:01

OMG, Lang, how have you managed?

Mine is Bobbi Brown's Nude, since you asked.:o

And while I'm here why "Nude" it's so not.Hmm

KatherineJaneway · 07/04/2020 05:14

YANBU. You are there for a reason that is essential, so grabbing something nice while doing so is fine.

Alsohuman · 07/04/2020 11:01

Mine too Lang. And my favourite grey eyeshadow, mascara and eyebrow pencil. I feel like the cosmetics industry has got it in for me sometimes.

Ilikewinter · 07/04/2020 11:10

The Boots offical company policy is that no area of the store can be taped off apart from Premium beauty brands as those staff dont work for Boots and have been sent home. However a lot of stores, especially the smaller ones that are swamped with prescriptions right now have taped off areas of the store.
Self selection and perfume testers have been removed for health and safety reasons.
If your local Boots store has stopped you from making purchases I expect that to change very soon!.

cologne4711 · 07/04/2020 11:17

I don't like my local Boots anyway because it's incredibly badly run and there's never anyone on the tills when you want to buy anything. I tend to use the Superdrug, but as I mentioned they seemed to have a one in one out policy and I wasn't sure if you were only allowed in for a prescription or OTC medicines.

Seems a bit draconian to rope off the haircare aisles, are people not allowed to wash their hair now? Fortunately I had a Brexit stockpile of my favourite haircare, moisturisers etc so I don't need anything.

nellythenarwhal · 07/04/2020 13:10

It sounds like there's a massive difference between stores. Hopefully people needing baby items like nappies and formula are able to pick them up at supermarkets now. After prescription medication, I'd say that they were on a par with behind the counter and on the shelf medication seeing as there's no alternatives to formula.
