I have to collect a prescription from Superdrug today.
My lipstick has ran out (I know first world problems )
Would I be unreasonable to grab one whilst in Superdrug collecting prescription.
I don't want anyone to think I'm not taking this lockdown seriously and being a idiot buying lipstick when it's not essential.
I have anxiety so worry about stupid things.
What would you do ?

@Marpan I bought shampoo in my local Boots at the weekend.

Bluesheep8 · 06/04/2020 13:11

*Marpan

I don’t know about Superdrug but boots won’t let you buy any stuff not even shampoo.*

Eh? Why? You can still buy shampoo in a supermarket. And I'd say it's an essential item

VladmirsPoutine · 06/04/2020 13:15

I would buy it. The other day at the supermarket I filled my trolley with wine and a few packets of bombay mix. It didn't occur to me that someone might be judging me for it.

AprilFloundering · 06/04/2020 13:20

Well I wouldn't since the aim is to be there as briefly as possible - for your good and for the good of the staff and other customers. But loads of people will undoubtedly come on and say "of course you can.

Yep, and I'm one of them.

You're there. Grab the items you need while you are. Have a list and be as quick as you can.

PrivateD00r · 06/04/2020 13:21

You are there anyway, definitely buy it!

InArrears · 06/04/2020 13:21

Of course you can . You're making an essential journey. No restrictions on what you can buy just yet, and this is the same as anyone else buying a chocolate bar or bottle of wine while out for their milk and bread.

gingertom11 · 06/04/2020 13:23

My DM was in Superdrug the other day collecting prescription and picked up a foundation. The person who served her said they couldn't sell it as it was non-essential.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 06/04/2020 13:23

I was on Superdrug's website earlier as there is a bunch of stuff I'm going to run out of and most of what I wanted is "Only available to Order & Collect".

WhenYouveAFirstInEnglish · 06/04/2020 13:24

Really Vladimir? You haven’t been spending long enough on the MNet Coronavirus forums. Each packet of Bombay Mix probably killed 1.5 Nans and you have to set fire to them anyway once you get them home to sterilise the packets so what’s the point?

Iwannatellyouastory · 06/04/2020 13:24

I bought specialist shampoo in Boots ( for my MIL, we dropped off a care package at her care home) yesterday when I went to pick up sanitary and some over the counter products, nothing was screened off.

PinkMonkeyBird · 06/04/2020 13:25

I bought hair dye in my last supermarket shop! Buy the lipstick!

iVampire · 06/04/2020 13:25

As you’re in the shop anyway for an essential reason, then I think it’s OK to add any items you fancy from the stuff they have on the shelves

peanutsandpinenuts · 06/04/2020 13:26

Don't see the harm myself as long as you don't over extend the length of your trip too much, you were going there anyway etc.

VladmirsPoutine · 06/04/2020 13:27

Grin Typical Mumsnet... No-one is allowed to enjoy anything if it is against the RULES

WhenYouveAFirstInEnglish · 06/04/2020 13:27

My colleague tried to buy an eyeliner, they wouldn’t sell it her so she told them she’s NHS and still wants to take some pride in her appearance at work. They gave it to her for free. Try that?

oohnicevase · 06/04/2020 13:27

They won't let you in. One of my relative works there and they are on the door. Unless you are doing other essential things. Mac are doing delivery ans have offers or amazon have lipsticks .

WhenYouveAFirstInEnglish · 06/04/2020 13:27

She is NHS btw.

Time40 · 06/04/2020 13:28

In my local Superdrug, there is a notice saying that everything is available to buy, but they are not getting replacement deliveries, so when it's gone it's gone ... which I find a bit odd, as you would think all the shops in a chain would have the same policy, wouldn't you?

Zaphodsotherhead · 06/04/2020 13:31

I work in a shop and I'm saying this everywhere...

the trip to the shop must be essential - not what you buy in the shop. So as long as you are minimising your trips to the shop and buying things you need while you are there, then you can put any amount of incidentals into your basket.

It's not the content of your basket that has to be essentials only. That would be stupid and would stop us selling pretty much anything but bread and milk. If you're going for a prescription (essential) then fill your boots while you're there!

Don't go for a prescription one day and a lipstick the next!

Blondieg · 06/04/2020 13:31

It depends, will it be an additional unnecessary interaction?
Can you collect prescriptions and pay in one transaction at the same till? Or are you having to queue elsewhere and risk 2 workers health not just 1?

Becca19962014 · 06/04/2020 13:32

Increasingly pharmacies are closing the rest of the shop with tape to protect staff.

Snowpatrolling · 06/04/2020 13:33

I went to boots for my prescription and stocked up on makes up and other bits. I was as quick as I could be due to one in one out. It’ll be fine!

Grandmi · 06/04/2020 13:34

I bought foundation whilst collecting a prescription..I think people are over thinking because we are all worried about not doing the right thing .

PurpleDaisies · 06/04/2020 13:35

I’d get it.

murasaki · 06/04/2020 13:37

I'm having to do online work meetings a lot, and have very bad eczema, I'm afraid I'm going to have to go for replacement make up in a week or so as I need it. For me to be able to work, it's an essential, sorry.
