...to order clothes online at the moment

On one hand I’ll be supporting businesses with my £s and dcs have grown out of last year’s summer clothes (ie shorts and T-shirt’s) they’ve also grown out of their jeans and sandals.
But if I order it’s more delivery workers driving and people having to work in warehouses etc.

If your children have outgrown their clothes then they need something else to wear. Do a big order so you don't have a whole bunch of parcels coming.

CruCru · 06/04/2020 12:02

Plus, frankly, if we want businesses to stay after this is all over, we need to support them.

TheGlaikitRambler · 06/04/2020 12:03

I'e ordered clothes online.

countrygirl99 · 06/04/2020 12:12

Friend was telling me this morning about her husband who works for a delivery company. 4 of the 5 managers are now off sick and he is last one standing and working 2 shifts a day trying to keep the depot running. He was working in an office last week with someone who has gone off with symptoms over the weekend.
It's fine to think about the company selling keeping going but there are people inbetween you and them who are really struggling and could do with working less than 16 hour days.

depressedindoors · 06/04/2020 12:15

I've ordered plenty of stuff. Clothes for summer (hopefully if we can go out...), makeup, skincare, stuff so I can do my gel nails... Might as well do your part to help the economy. The delivery drivers round me seem cheerful.

bigbluebus · 06/04/2020 12:17

If your children have outgrown clothes then I would consider that as an essential purchase but would try and only order from one retailer to cut down on deliveries and the number of people involved in the process.

I have just ordered some cheap curtains for adult DS. He is in a rented room in a student house. There was a problem with damp and his curtains went mouldy. The agent removed the curtains and said they would send someone to come and measure up and fit new ones and told him to keep the window open to prevent recurrance of the damp Unfortunately that didn't happen before lockdown and DS is now stuck in his student room 200 miles away for the foreseeable future with no curtains on his bedroom window.(Agent will now only send people out for emergency repairs) It is affecting his ability to sleep and will only get worse as the days get longer so I consider that to be a necessary purchase.

RhymingRabbit3 · 06/04/2020 12:19

I've ordered shoes for my daughter as she has nearly grown out of hers and cant wear wellies all summer!

sweetkitty · 06/04/2020 12:20

I ordered some croc sandals for the DCs as DD3s toes were hanging out the end of her old ones. They like them to quickly put on to play out in the garden and if we ever go on holiday this year they can take them there too. I also ordered DD1 some new Converse.

Winterwoollies · 06/04/2020 12:20

I’ve been ordering things online. It’s supporting businesses and I needed things as I’m due to give birth soon.

PianoTuner567 · 06/04/2020 12:20

I’m of the opinion that if these businesses are open and fulfilling orders then we should use them. If they were short-staffed or not able to keep their workers safe or operate within government guidelines, they would close. It’s not for us to decide that for them.

moita · 06/04/2020 12:22

My brother lost his job recently. He's taken up a delivery role- he is very happy that people are still ordering as its allowing to pay his rent/put food on the table

PersonaNonGarter · 06/04/2020 12:23

It is for the business to manage safety issues, not the customer.

The main thing to be aware of is the risk of some retailers going under and not fulfilling orders. You can google for that though.

RoseMartha · 06/04/2020 12:25

I have had to order clothes online for the kids.

If you need to then do

Wehttam · 06/04/2020 12:33

Just don’t be ordering tonnes of pointless useless crap. Order what you need. Yes people are happy to be working but many of the companies will not be enforcing social distancing protocols so many staff will be scared right now if they are working in conditions many of us would not work in.

Think about that before you click confirm order.

thefamousfiveplusone · 06/04/2020 12:38

Just this week I've had to order some clothes for the baby. She's grown out of most 0-3 months stuff - not surprising as she's now 4 months and growing like a weed! 🙈 Have lost all track of time these last few weeks.

Sparklesocks · 06/04/2020 12:49

I think there’s a difference between ordering clothes for kids who have grown out of theirs, and say shopping for a party dress and heels for yourself because you’re bored at home.
Warehouse conditions are still pretty poor in a lot of places and delivery drivers are working very hard to get things where they need to be, so I’m trying not to order anything that can wait for the time being.

Mummyoflittledragon · 06/04/2020 13:04

I’ve ordered several things eg some new dresses for the summer and shorts / jumpsuits for dd. My old ones have holes in them and dd is getting taller and needs new stuff.

KitKatKit · 06/04/2020 13:06

This is a legitimate concern of my at the moment. I'm in my first trimester at the moment so anticipate my body is going to expand (a bit!). I'm quite happy to not shop now, but am dreading when the weather warms up. I just want to buy some cheap nighties to accommodate my growing belly!

BogRollBOGOF · 06/04/2020 13:16

Buying new clothes because you need new sizing is essential.

Buying for fashion/ boredom, not essential.

DS1 is growing rapidly and I had to get him new shorts at the supermarket. Due to his autism and sensory issues, I need to feel the fabric to know that it's tolerable to him, and I need to know that I can yoink the waist in to fit and not be decieved by pictures of dummy drawstrings rendering the fit as useful as a hula hoop.

DS2 growing is not so problematic because there are bigger clothes from DS1 around.

tootiredtoconga · 06/04/2020 13:30

My 18mo is outgrowing his clothes so I will have to order some for him soon. I'm planning to order them all in one go from the same retailer so it only needs one delivery. If this goes on much longer both DC will be needing shoes as well. As long as online retailers are still trading people will buy from them.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 06/04/2020 13:34

I've placed 3 orders with George for bits & bobs ready for baby coming in the next few weeks. Was planning to shopping round town for the last bits about this point so not fully prepared!

ASDA then decided to split the orders down into multiple deliveries, so ended up with about 6/7 parcels mostly on different days! 🙄😬

Feel a bit bad for the Hermes courier now & wish I could explain but she just dumps the parcels & rubs back to her car!

Isawamagpie · 06/04/2020 13:36

I've ordered clothes for DS from Frugi, I think at this time businesses need our support. Particularly not the bigger businesses, having said that I've also ordered from holland and barret.
Go ahead and order.

Ownerofmultiplechimps · 06/04/2020 13:42

I ordered stuff for Ds1 recently, he’d grown out of or ruined beyond repair all of his trousers. I considered it essential but did order from 1 place only. Ds2 is also growing rapidly but we have hand me downs for him so no need buy new.

Lidon · 06/04/2020 13:55

I've ordered several things this week, like a paint sprayer, diy stuff and garden stuff.

Ginfordinner · 06/04/2020 13:57

All the bigger supermarkets sell clothes. Are you able to pick some up when you go shopping?
