Leo Varadkar the Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of the Republic of Ireland has re-registered as a medical doctor and is going to join the ranks of the HSE (healthcare system) to care for Covid patients.

He will do 1 shift per with as well as well... leading the country through this shit-storm.

I’m quite surprised, and pleased for many reasons - but THIS is leadership - wow!!

I WAS going to tell you to fuck right off, but I thought you were on about Boris fucking Johnson. 😂

JemimaPuddleCat · 05/04/2020 19:24

That's nothing. I bet Kirstene Hair - former Tory MP for Angus - is back picking fruit at her Daddy's farm Grin

bonnieclydesdale · 05/04/2020 19:25

What WoollyMollyMonkey said Grin

I had a lot of respect for LV before this and I have even more now.

LaureBerthaud · 05/04/2020 19:25

Imagine boris doing that

How can he with no medical qualifications?

MadameJosephine · 05/04/2020 19:26

I WAS going to tell you to fuck right off, but I thought you were on about Boris fucking Johnson.

Me too! Well done Leo. At least you can believe him if he says ‘we’re all in it together’

Harp1977 · 05/04/2020 19:28

I was delighted to see this as well, it will be good to have more GP's available. People seem to forget that other life illness have not disappeared and gone away.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/04/2020 19:29

And meanwhile in Scotland....

2 weekends in a row...

Inniu · 05/04/2020 19:29

I think him working in a hospital would not be good both because he hasn’t practised for at least 7 years and because the risk of infection is too high and it would not be a good time for a new Taoiseach to have to learn the ropes.

I also don’t think it is a publicity stunt. No photo ops and suggestions it was happening for a while before being discovered.

bonnieclydesdale · 05/04/2020 19:29

@LaureBerthaud Imagine boris doing that. How can he with no medical qualifications?

Well, obviously, the PP meant if he was qualified as well you know. Why are you acting as if you are so stupid?

ClareBlue · 05/04/2020 19:29

Meanwhile the chief medical officer in Scotland takes her family to her holiday cottage over the weekend. That is in-between criticism of people going to the Highlands to isolate and every night telling people to stay at home. The optics are important. Well done Leo. Not a PR stunt. A genuine attempt to help the system.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/04/2020 19:30

ClareBlue - 2 weekends in row.

CremeEggThief · 05/04/2020 19:30

It's a good thing to do, but doesn't excuse him from all his poor decisions and choices of the past. One right doesn't cancel out every wrong.

PegasusReturns · 05/04/2020 19:31

Good on him.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 05/04/2020 19:32

I opened this thread thinking a total nutter was going to be rhapsodising about Boris. I'm disappointed to be deprived of that.

ClareBlue · 05/04/2020 19:32

@WaxOnFeckOff crossed on thatGrin

His skills are at least 7 years out of practise- incredibly dangerous for him to be let loose without a return to practise course and a good bit of CPD.

ClareBlue · 05/04/2020 19:35

@WaxOnFeckOff surely she has to resign

Mayorquimby2 · 05/04/2020 19:37

While Mary Lou is taking the opportunity to say I told you so and complain that two parties she consistently said she'd only hi in to gov with as a last resort aren't falling over themselves to go in to government with her.

Opportunistic scumbag that she is.

To be dead frickin proud of our “PM”
Marieo · 05/04/2020 19:37

Yes it's great. To whoever said imagine Boris doing it, I think it might help to be a doctor first!

Bluewavescrashing · 05/04/2020 19:38

That's awesome. I'm genuinely impressed.

WalesStar · 05/04/2020 19:38

@DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou. So is my local MP

OP- this sounds great, a case of doing rather than just saying. 😀

DateLoaf · 05/04/2020 19:38

Good on them!

Pleasedontdothat · 05/04/2020 19:39

Frankly I would rather the elected prime minister of a democracy concentrated on running the country rather than playing at being a doctor, several years after changing career

Newtothis2017 · 05/04/2020 19:40

Very impressed. proud to be irish today👍
