Washing your car in the street

MrsFitzwilliam · 05/04/2020 17:18

So my next-door neighbor has a son who doesn't live with her (he lives around the corner) but who parks his car on her drive, as he has a property that opens straight onto a road with no parking available.

He is still coming and going to and from his mother's house and today decided to move his car off the drive and on to the road to wash it. This, of course, meant that no one could safely use the footpath and maintain a proper 2-metre distance.

I am part of the 12 weeks isolated vulnerable group so no chance I could have a word (even from a safe distance as I am not supposed to go outside at all). I've just been telling my DS on the phone and he says I should have reported him. I'm usually a live and let live sort of person, but honestly, someone like him could actually be the literal death of someone like me, someone who cannot isolate properly as I am and has to go out for food shopping etc. And anyway, I'm sick to death of the "it doesn't apply to me I have a good reason to do what I'm doing, so I'm a special case" idiots out there.

So what is your view ?
Report = YANBU
Ignore his selfishness = YABU

Sorry I mean obviously you have tried anything but just a few more suggestions if you can.

plum100 · 05/04/2020 17:39

Sorry think yabu here. There are many streets
Up and down the country that are narrow and do not allow the correct distance . He hasn’t taken up permanent residence in the street -he will be gone at some point. Maybe move away from the window.

mrsbyers · 05/04/2020 17:40

Just wanted to mention that even if you are in the extremely vulnerable grouping you can still spend time outside if you have a private garden and are 2 metres away from neighbours etc

try spending time with the windows open to let in the fresh air, arranging space to sit and see a nice view (if possible) and get some natural sunlight, or get out into any private space, keeping at least 2 metres away from your neighbours and household members if you are sitting on your doorstep

Mintjulia · 05/04/2020 17:46

Is he hurting you? No.

If he is washing his car, he can move to the road side of the car, leaving the pavement free for anyone passing by so is he hurting them or breaching social distancing rules? No.
Has anyone been impacted or had to complain about this? Not that you can say?

Perhaps you are very bored.

Pinkblueberry · 05/04/2020 17:50

I think you’re overreacting- I would think it likely that if he noticed someone walk towards him he would politely step out the way behind his car.

PhilCornwall1 · 05/04/2020 17:51

That will be me tomorrow, seagulls have made a right mess of my car. I cannot see an issue with doing this at all.

PeacockPies · 05/04/2020 18:00

You are being absolutely ridiculous.

I honestly can’t bare all of this curtain twitching and needling at each other.

JKScot4 · 05/04/2020 18:03

Is it a full moon tonight? I’m loosing count of batshit OPs today.
It didn’t affect you and anyone wanting by can use their own judgement to walk around him.
Step away from the window!!

JKScot4 · 05/04/2020 18:04

Also, it will take him what 20 mins to wash the car not all fuckin day!!

Rockbird · 05/04/2020 18:06

I'm going out tomorrow to clear all the crap out of my car so that I can go and get it cleaned when restrictions are lifted. It's very quiet here, hardly anyone is out and I'll jump into the road if anyone looks like they're coming near me. It's one job I can easily and harmlessly get done rather than watching yet another episode of something on Netflix.

Crystal87 · 05/04/2020 18:09

He's not doing anything wrong. Even on lockdown there's times when you can't avoid going into close contact with people, such as in the supermarket, or just generally passing people in the street. So you're being silly to suggest he's blocking the pavement.

pocketem · 05/04/2020 18:10

Stop the curtain twitching. People can walk on the other side of the road, or wait half an hour till he is finished. Mind your beeswax, YABU

tulipsrus · 05/04/2020 18:15

I’m sure he’d step back if anyone wanted to get past

Richwitch · 05/04/2020 18:16

My view is - keep your nose out. If you weren’t isolated and therefore bored I doubt you’d have noticed it.

PicturesOfCats · 05/04/2020 18:20

I'll just leave the thread now I think as it seems to be upsetting some people more than the actual question warranted

You mean you’re not getting the responses you wanted

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 05/04/2020 18:21

Did anyone actually went past and had to go into the dangerous road!

Haworthia · 05/04/2020 18:21

Total non-issue.

cansu · 05/04/2020 18:23

fGs get a grip. He is washing his outdoors. I appreciate that you are bored but you need to find something else to do. The police have better things to do than respond to crazy shit like this.

donquixotedelamancha · 05/04/2020 18:24

It's evident I am in the wrong to be concerned about others

That is an utterly daft chracteristion of the responses you've had. He may be inconsiderate but people are rightly pointing out that you should not waste police time reporting someone for washing their car.

I'll just leave the thread now

I think that's record time for the traditional disagree then flounce saga to play out.

Summersunandoranges · 05/04/2020 18:25

Step away from the window

Crazycrazylady · 05/04/2020 18:27

Yep

The isolation has clearly driven you a bit crazy Your neighbour washing his car outside has you reaching for the phone to report him..
Ps don't think anyone's upset only you😜

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 05/04/2020 18:28

It's evident I am in the wrong to be concerned about others.

Yes because that's really what happened GrinGrinGrin

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 05/04/2020 18:28

I'm pretty easily angered by the "rules don't apply" gang but this does seem a silly thing to be worked up about. Has anyone actually been unable to pass him yet?

tellmetocalmdown · 05/04/2020 18:30

YABU - ridiculously unreasonable.

FlapAttack23 · 05/04/2020 18:33
