Tesco delivery

The odd mixed feelings of excitement, anxiety, horror and panic when a Tesco order arrives. Delighted and grateful to get supplies, terrified in case they are caked in covid19. It’s a strange feeling.

I had an ocado order this week where I was informed by the driver that I was the only person that week who had received their order in full, with no substitutes. 🙌🏻

Marieo · 05/04/2020 14:26

Just wash the packets, put away and wash hands?

PrettyTricky · 05/04/2020 14:32

Same. Got a click and collect last week and was over the moon to have supplies, and delighted that they loaded it straight into my boot without having to get out of the car, but took an hour to unload, unpack, wash and wipe everything at home before putting it away. Couldn't work out if it was sensible practice or utter madness to be wiping everything down.

Fatasfooook · 05/04/2020 14:36

I know, I am leaving everything that can wait in the bags for three days and wiping what I need to use. But, I have no anti -bac so just a normal cloth so is that futile? Just don’t know and worried. But also feeling relieved and happy to have food.

Apparently diluted bleach works if you have any

boli · 05/04/2020 14:41

Norma cloth with fairy liquid in water should be fine if not anti bac

Marieo · 05/04/2020 14:41

Apparently soapy water is the best, when I have dropped food off to people they have been taking things that are okay out of plastic such as fruit etc out of their packets, and then giving everything else the once over with soapy water (as long as the packet isn't porous of course, you don't want to be ruining the food!). If you have somewhere safe out of the way for non perishables for a few days that would save washing though.

Marieo · 05/04/2020 14:42

Research so far says the risk is minimal, but obviously better to be careful if worried, perfectly reasonable.

skintbutok · 05/04/2020 14:46

I read that antibacterial agents are pointless because it's a virus. I'd use soapy water on packages and rinse if its practical.

PumpkinP · 05/04/2020 14:48

ABit off topic but the Tesco’s man asked me to sign for the delivery on Thursday thought they weren’t suppose to be doing that anymore! Felt to awkward to say anything

Pumpkinpie1 · 05/04/2020 15:30

Been trying for 3 weeks to get an Order from 4 local supermarkets never any slots. We are a vulnerable household buts it’s impossible

middleager · 05/04/2020 15:34

Pumpkin - do you have a milkman/farmshop/grocer that does deliveries?

Wallybigboots · 05/04/2020 15:35

I don't understand Tesco are saying they prioritise the elderly, those with underlying health conditions and those in self isolation but then only release delivery slots at midnight when people are asleep.

PumpkinP · 05/04/2020 16:41

Are far as I’m aware Tesco’s aren’t actually doing the priority thing? Anyone can get a slot with them (unlike Sainsbury’s)

Kateplaysrugbyinmydreams · 05/04/2020 16:45

I agree. I did shopping yesterday. I'm at work during the week (nhs). By the time you've gone to shop, applied gloves, queued, gone round at 2 metre intervals waiting for people to stop being in a trance right by the thing you need, loaded car, removed gloves, alcohol gel on hands, drive home. Wash hands. Unload car, unload all items wiping down. Wash hands. Put food away. Wash hands again. You're bloody knackered!

inflam · 05/04/2020 16:47

took an hour to unload, unpack, wash and wipe everything at home before putting it away

Could not not just wash your hands after putting it away? Then again after opening the pack, before cooking/eating?

I'm amazed people are spending an hour wiping their groceries Shock

vanillandhoney · 05/04/2020 16:50

I don't understand Tesco are saying they prioritise the elderly, those with underlying health conditions and those in self isolation but then only release delivery slots at midnight when people are asleep

They're not prioritising anyone - all they've done is put a statement on their website asking you to shop in store if possible.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 05/04/2020 18:29

Is it true that they release slots at midnight? My DF hasn’t been able to get a delivery for weeks.

assaggyastwohotbollocks · 05/04/2020 18:31

@idefinitelyhavefriends I got a click and collect shortly after midnight for myself. They still go very quickly. I’d have a go each night and catch one for him if you can. I’ve had to do the same for my mum and dad.

middleager · 05/04/2020 18:38

IDefinitely it's true, but getting Glastonbury tickets would be easier.

I've logged on at 11.50 to go in a queue. At 12.10 the message said looking for slots. At 12.45 it said the same.

I logged out and got straight on the site only to say all slots had gone.

An hour!

middleager · 05/04/2020 18:39

And that was for click and collect.

Welcometothequiz · 05/04/2020 18:43

Look at random times, they appear at really weird times like 3am or 4pm, they're gone in a flash

Moussemum · 05/04/2020 18:59

Go on to Tesco website at 11.59.once it turns to 12.00 midnight hit sign in.you are then held in an online queue for 10minutes or so it refreshes by itself so you don’t press anything during this time and then you are logged in.then click on book slots once in and keep clicking forward on the calendar until the last day available for delivery.then select your slot.it worked for me.good luck.they are roughly 3 weeks ahead.

TriangleBingoBongo · 05/04/2020 19:01

Couldn't work out if it was sensible practice or utter madness to be wiping everything down.

Me neither. I’m still not sure now!

Wearing gloves to touch high contact points at the supermarket seems pretty pointless when I went home and touched the packaging?

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 05/04/2020 19:42

Thanks for the advice. I’m doing orders for DF with Ocado, but he’d prefer to do his own on his Tesco account.
