A PLEA

YukoandHiro · 05/04/2020 11:54

Please, if you have a garden or any alternative, do not go out and use parks etc.

My husband and I live in a damp, dark two bedroom flat with no outside space with a 2.5 year old.

A no outside exercise edict Will drive us to completely mental breakdown.

Stop being selfish and think of the people who really actually need to leave the their property to keep their child well.

OP posts:
GREATAUNT1 · 05/04/2020 13:00

Writhing as in dying from the virus because they won't stay in?

wanderings · 05/04/2020 13:01

I'm glad you've been doing your homework @Deux, studying the Act, we need voices like yours. I think these government figures are choosing their words very carefully (if not their actions), and their spin doctors are working very hard indeed. Although some of the photos of crowds in parks might be genuine, I bet most of them are from last year.

simplekindoflife · 05/04/2020 13:02

I agree with you OP.

I have a garden and we're doing fine. Save the parks for people who really need them.

TerrorWig · 05/04/2020 13:03

I agree OP. We have a small yard that doesn't allow for anything other than sitting and having a drink, but it's better than nothing. We have a park over the road but I am wary of going.

I had to get the car MOTd the other day, most people would keep their distance but in the main? Walking past people on a wide pavement, they'd make no effort to take a step sideways.

Having said that, just getting out to go out to Tesco has been wonderful.

CollaborativeBee · 05/04/2020 13:03

You don't have to go to a park.

I go for a 4 k walk which doesn't take me further than 1.5 k away from my house at any point. You don't have to go to a park to be out. Just walk. Look at the map of your area and walk a loop.

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 05/04/2020 13:06

This is not just about those who have gardens, it's selfish people in general, I can be outside in my garden but I can't really go for a run. We live right by the coast which is where we run and cycle (plenty of space large cycle lanes etc) and it's in danger of being closed completely because day trippers keep turning up in their bloody cars

croprotationinthe13thcentury · 05/04/2020 13:06

First of all OP, you are largely preaching to the converted on MN. Do you really think your plea will make one iota of difference? Really??
Second, calling people who don’t follow the rules ‘selfish twats’, ‘arseholes’ and all manner of other names the frothing mouth brigade on here insist on doing is not going to help. It really isn’t. It just makes people who resort to such insults look childish and silly.
Thirdly, moaning about people who ignore lockdown is getting BORING. Moaning about it ACHIEVES NOTHING. OP and other posters of this ilk should get a life. Stop fretting about what others are doing, wind your neck in and focus on your own lives. Bloody saddos.

severalboxes · 05/04/2020 13:06

There are a few idiots, always are.

It's being blown up out of proportion to distract from the government being so crap at managing this.

You don't get to choose who goes out, op

simplekindoflife · 05/04/2020 13:06

Of course you can exercise in a small garden! Running on the spot, burpees, stretches, etc. It's about just getting fresh air and sunshine too.

Unless you're practising for the pole vault or the long jump, you'll be fine. You don't need to out to a park every single day if you have a garden.

wanderings · 05/04/2020 13:07

And yes, @Deux, I totally agree about the government making it the public's fault! Indeed, if stricter measures are hinted at, people will go out all the more "while they can". It was the same with banning alcohol on the tube: drinks parties there on the "last day".

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 05/04/2020 13:07

And the photos weren't fake, my friend was picking up his wife from other local hospital where she works, the quickest route for them is along the seafront

Splodgetastic · 05/04/2020 13:08

You can’t really exercise that well in a postage-stamp-sized garden, at least not walking and running. I’m trying to devise programme I can do in the garden, but doing circuit type exercises when your physical capabilities are limited is not easy.

AprilFloundering · 05/04/2020 13:09

All these people who don't think it's enforceable are dreaming....

People already have neighbours publicly berating people who don't 'clap' for NHS workers ...

People have neighbours who were outraged others didn't 'shine a light' on Friday night...

People have neighbours who are outraged people don't want to clap for children today...

they'll be happy to dob everyone in.

And the military will be brought in like other countries if need be.

it can be done. But honestly, people need to stop acting like prats so it isn't. Sunning and picnicing and reading books in parks, on park benches and at the seaside needs to stop ... do that at home. Leaving the house for exercise is for exercise, not sitting. it's not hard, but they're ruining it for everyone. And biking with your cycling club is out, too. FFS.

wanderings · 05/04/2020 13:09

@severalboxes It's being blown up out of proportion to distract from the government being so crap at managing this. Say it again, louder, please!

@croprotationinthe13thcentury It just makes people who resort to such insults look childish and silly. Say it louder! My MN bingo card is working overtime with the insults.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 05/04/2020 13:10

@croprotationinthe13thcentury saddos who prefer people not dying and not overwhelming NHS.
I like the hypocrisy on posts about how people use mean names on people who can't comprehend simple instructions while calling them mean names🤷🏻

notangelinajolie · 05/04/2020 13:11

I understand the need for fresh air but surely there are windows we can open. And yes, exercise is great way of keeping healthy but surely in the grand scheme of things abstaining for a few weeks is not going to make that much of a difference.
Those photos of cycling men in lycra made my blood run cold. Selfish the lot of them. I'm watching Sky News live outside Windsor Castle and there's 2 of them in the background as I type. Stay indoors. Please.

Hadenoughofitall441 · 05/04/2020 13:12

Assholes that’s what they are, I’m all for people exercising but not for people going out coz they miss thier mates. They understand and are being completely selfish. My DD 7 was crying yesterday because she said she was bored and she misses her friends. My heart broke for her as she too young to understand but she hasn’t asked to go no where or leave the house because we’ve told her she can’t. Grown ups sitting on our local beach having bbqs etc, what do people not get, the sooner everyone stays home, the sooner we will all be allowed back to our normal lives. I’m not ecstatic about being in either, in fact my mental health is taking a hit but I know the alternative is worse. I’m not scared of the virus for myself, I’m not afraid of dying but I know others are so I’m doing what’s needed. I’m concerned about the level of stupidity in this world it has far exceeded my expectations.

cinammonbuns · 05/04/2020 13:12

YABU

Shouldershrugger · 05/04/2020 13:12

Yanbu. My family and I go to our garden instead of parks. But the lack of human decency became very apparent when people started panic buying.

GREATAUNT1 · 05/04/2020 13:13

People will continue to dog walk, exercise even if they never used to, shop several times a day, & go out just for the sake of it. Op Twat Hancock et al don't care either, they'd be quite happy for us all to die.

KitKat1985 · 05/04/2020 13:13

YAB a bit U I think OP. We have a garden but it's pretty tiny and certainly not a 'go for a walk' space. What people need to do is go out to places to exercise where there aren't many people around. That means not beaches, national parks etc where everyone wants to go. Just go for a walk from your front door and back again, around some side streets etc. Avoid other people with at least a 2m gap. I think maybe the government needs to be clear exercise is limited to 30 mins a day as well.

Makinganewthinghappen · 05/04/2020 13:13

We live near the sea front and it’s full of dog walkers, cyclists and people walking in general. Normally at this time of year it would be be fairly empty so the lockdown has had the opposite effectConfused

We have 6 children in our house and no garden but we haven’t taken them out at all for the last 3 weeks. Dh is high risk and with this many people wandering past our front door I dare not let them out.

Luckily my children are not babies or toddlers oldest is 14 youngest is 4 and they are generally computer geeks so happy to be in.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 05/04/2020 13:14

@AprilFloundering ooooh. Don't forget that clap for cats. We are all on it!

Jeezoh · 05/04/2020 13:14

I agree with you OP, in your shoes I’d be so worried about a total lockdown.

Piglet89 · 05/04/2020 13:15

@Deux the Coronavirus Act 2020 (the primary legislation which Parliament passed towards end of March) will grant relevant ministers power to make or amend secondary legislation to change the restrictions - so whether Parliament is currently sitting is neither here nor there.
