How do I explain the rules to DH??

Just that really. He doesn't seem to understand what "one form of exercise a day" means. Yesterday he went to the shops (about a mile round trip, he walked), took DC on a walk and then decided to go on a bike ride! I can understand the first 2, we need to eat and DC need to exercise, but a bike ride after 2 walks is just taking the piss right? On top of that, I'm an NHS worker and am treating coronavirus patients daily, so he's more likely to pass it on than most people. I tried telling him, but he apparently "needs" a daily bike ride Hmm (it's not like DC are going out every day either, they prefer to exercise in the garden so he can go on a bike ride then). Anyone know how to explain this to a stubborn middle aged man?

Try this song OP? Don't play it with the DC around!

I can sort of see where he’s coming from.

A quick cycle with a child isn’t really that much exercise.

Ours will do a 2-3 hr bike ride now, and at a fair pace.

But DD also wants to go jogging. She just can’t keep up, so the exercise turns into a half hearted walk which no one really gets that much out of.

We take it in turns. Child is out doing something every day. We exercise properly every other day.

elQuintoConyo · 05/04/2020 10:01

You're ok, you won't get it or pass it on to anyone else. Go right ahead you wankerright

OlaEliza · 05/04/2020 10:04

Your husband is an arsehole. Tell him so 🤷

Ihatesocialmedia · 05/04/2020 10:05

To be honest I think the government are going to have to get tough. If they want things to stop they need to stop relying on people to do it themselves because if anything I'd say there are more people out and about.

Show him this...

How do I explain the rules to DH??
BreathlessCommotion · 05/04/2020 10:08

Well once a day isn't the rules. It just says except to exercise. It doesn't limit the length of time or number of times you can do that. I walk the dog once and go for a run/walk/cycle with the kids. I'm not breaking the rules as set out in the legislation.

welldonejean · 05/04/2020 10:09

Is he staying 2m away from people when exercising? Then he won’t be passing anything.

BreathlessCommotion · 05/04/2020 10:11

But that isn't what the virus would look like @abcde11. Because it needs people to transmit it. It will stay around in droplets for a small amount of time, but not like that.

Insideout99 · 05/04/2020 10:11

@BreathlessCommotion gov website specifically says one form of exercise a day.

Selfsettling3 · 05/04/2020 10:13

You need to tell him that his selfish actions WILL kill other people. Maybe he just doesn’t care about others.

sellthesizzle · 05/04/2020 10:16

Once a day is law in Wales I think but still only advice in England, NI and Scotland I think.

NewYearNewJob123 · 05/04/2020 10:16

Government guidelines say once a day. Legislation gives no limit.

NewYearNewJob123 · 05/04/2020 10:17

In Wales legislation says once a day.

StrawberryBlondeStar · 05/04/2020 10:17

YANBU but I have so many friends (both male and female) who “have” to exercise involving hours long cycle rides and runs. Of course there children need to go out as well. So they are totally justified in going out at least twice a day.

BreathlessCommotion · 05/04/2020 10:18

@Insideout99 well the Legislation doesn't. Several ministers and Boris have mentioned once, but that isn't in the legislation.

If we move to no outside exercise that will finish me off.

MitziK · 05/04/2020 10:18

Put his lycra gear in the tumble dryer?

Insideout99 · 05/04/2020 10:21

If people keep ignoring the guidance given then you'll find the legislation will likely change and it ruin it for everyone. Every seems to be able to find a reason why they're special and why they need to go out more than once a day and god it's getting boring.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 05/04/2020 10:21

People seem to think that if they are the magic two metres away from other people, or in the open air they won’t catch it. It doesn’t work like that, it means you are less likely to catch it, or to get a lighter dose of the virus. It’s not an exam, with Coronavirus getting out its tape measure and failing you if you are 1m 99 cm away.

People need to learn about the virus to protect their families.

MamaInNeed · 05/04/2020 10:21

I didn't realise it was only legislation in Wales (although we're in Wales so doesn't make much difference). I'll have to show him that, maybe he thinks once a day is just guidance.

OP posts:
TheGinGenie · 05/04/2020 10:24

It may not be in the actual law but if the government guidance is saying don't do it, you shouldn't be doing it. There's a lot of government guidance that is statutory but not actually in the legislation (lots of things schools have to follow, for instance)

I'd ask him why he feels the need to go out so much, whether he understands why we're all doing this, and how he'd feel if he was responsible for killing someone. And make it clear that it is that serious. If he still goes out after I'd call him an arsehole too.

TheGinGenie · 05/04/2020 10:25

I'd also explain that it will be things like this that mean we'll have a harder lockdown and we're not allowed to go out at all

BreathlessCommotion · 05/04/2020 10:26

People will kill themselves if they ban outside exercise. And it shows how little people do know or care about mental health on here that people think it's pathetic.

I've been pretty close to suicide this week and going out on my own has helped enough to bring me back. Doesn't mean I'm fine, but means I'm not suicidal.

If they ban it, it will be game over for me I fear. I cannot spend 24/7 in a small house with children (one with ASD who is violent) and my psychogically abusive dh.

Spacerader · 05/04/2020 10:28

People need to stop making excuses why they are the exception and need to go out. Surely if everyone does this then to many people are out, increasing the risk of the virus being transmitted.

We all would like to do things, but there are restrictions for a reason. As far as I'm concerned a mile walk to the supermarket could easily be classed as exercise.

Everyone is getting cabin fever and no body needs to go on a bike ride and a run you just want to.

Get over your self and stay at home.

And yes its has been out into law in wales that you can only go out once a day for exercise. I wouldnt be surprised if they get tougher with so many people flouting the rules.
