I know it’s like asking how long is a piece of string but we can’t wfh forever. What are your opinions?

I reckon 6 weeks.
This is based on no actual knowledge or science.

RoseAndRose · 05/04/2020 09:45

Depends on the nature of your work.

An awful lot of people haven't stopped - and indeed are working flat out.

Were you thinking of a particular sector?

PinkiOcelot · 05/04/2020 09:45

Personally I think at least June.
I would love love to work from home. I worry every morning going to work.

Escapeistheonlyoption · 05/04/2020 09:45

Start of June for some roles.

There will be a second lockdown- herd immunity and slowing the demand for hospital treatment is the plan until there is a vaccine.

Thehop · 05/04/2020 09:46

I’m early years and hoping for June but my boss thinks August

wonderstuff · 05/04/2020 09:46

Slowly from June I think, but I imagine we'll have periods of more restrictions until we have vaccine which will be at least a year. I don't think school will be back until September. Really depends on testing which is still pretty non existent atm.

HerLadySheep · 05/04/2020 09:46

Much of my work is at the NEC so whilst it's a field hospital there's no way we can return.

TimeAintNothing · 05/04/2020 10:19

I reckon those WFH will gradually return to work between May and August with those who are in any of the at risk groups remaining on WFH status for the foreseeable future.

Second lockdown around end of October/ beginning of November when the usual winter pressure on the NHS begins so as not to add to it.

Schools will reopen in September but if there isn't a vaccine or an effective drug/treatment by then I can see attendance being very low as people won't want to risk sending their DC in. I know from our school parents group on FB that a lot are saying they won't send their DC in until wee have either of those things in case their child gets sick and/or carries it home to the wider family.

NathanNathan · 05/04/2020 10:20

Not for bloody ages if people keep thinking "don't go out" doesn't apply to them!!

SlipSlidin · 05/04/2020 10:21

I’m hoping June. I’m in the legal sector.

CoronaIsComing · 05/04/2020 10:22

I think June too but schools will have to go back then too or who will look after all the children?

ooopsupsideyourhead · 05/04/2020 10:22

I am very hopeful that by late July we will see a semblance of “normal” summer (so, it’ll start raining then?!) and I think the schools will go back in September. But, I also agree with the above posters that suggest a second lockdown later in the year. 😭

Makeitgoaway · 05/04/2020 10:22

I think schools will be back before the change to wfh if at all possible comes.

Toothsil · 05/04/2020 10:25

DH was told it would probably be about12 weeks for him. He started WFH on Thursday last week.

zafferana · 05/04/2020 10:26

Initial lockdown is three weeks from 23 March to 13 April (Easter Monday). I reckon that will be extended to probably the end of the month and social distancing until the end of May. So going back to work/school early June hopefully.

Pasqual · 05/04/2020 10:28

DH works in hospitality, we reckon they'll be one of the last trades to go back. We're trying to mentally (and financially) prepare for him to be home until September.

screwcovid19 · 05/04/2020 10:29

Well I'm pregnant and my dh has asthma so middle of June for us at the earliest. Our workplaces don't want us in.

insancerre · 05/04/2020 10:29

Some of us are still at work

Garden5Guru6 · 05/04/2020 10:31

Currently WFH

TSSDNCOP · 05/04/2020 10:32

Based on no science. The trick will be to try to maintain social distancing.

I reckon schools will be off until September unless the Govt decides to cancel the England summer holiday, or consider a phased return eg Year 12 and 10 (next years exam years to avoid two years running of damage) and every other back two weeks apart.

Then offices go back one week in/one week WFH to alternate office occupancy and strain on public transport. Shops reduce opening hours to facilitate. Restaurants open with only 50% occupancy to ensure spaces between tables.

Pubs last unless they've got outside table space.

Paintforkitchen · 05/04/2020 10:34

Totally depends on what your job is!
I think things like construction, manufacturing and non essential shops will be some of the first to open back up. Dh works for a cinema chain though.... they’re currently working on the assumption they’ll be able to reopen in about 6 months but who knows!!

Paintforkitchen · 05/04/2020 10:34

(And when I say manufacturing obviously I realise there are lots in these industries still working)

bonnieclydesdale · 05/04/2020 10:35

Tomorrow morning for me. Everyday jobs ? September ?

Marieo · 05/04/2020 10:38

Oooo I don't know. I think those who can work from home at no detriment to the business might be told to stay doing that for longer, and those who it massively benefits the business by people being in may start to have a staggered return, perhaps in a month or so? This lockdown I am guessing will definitely be extended. I would be surprised though if pubs etc reopened for a while, same with schools, I would imagine maybe September for those. I think though that the gov know with the best will in the world summer will be harder to 'contain' people, and perhaps having set relaxations on some of the rules is safer. Who knows though! We have several new starters in the system who have handed notice in to previous jobs, it would be nice to be able to give them some clarity on when we might be able to get them into the roles.

PhoneLock · 05/04/2020 10:39

Monday morning for me. Same as usual.
