DH not DS

Wehttam · 05/04/2020 11:12

The shielding group are the ones I worry about the most. The likelihood is they may have to stay isolated until,a vaccine or herd immunity is identified which could be anything into next year, that 12 week period will be extended incrementally.

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 05/04/2020 11:12

DH is a structural engineer for agricultural sheds, he has been furloughed for the time being but has loads of work on and recently won more contracts for industrial buildings but obviously the longer they are closed the more annoyed people who are waiting for sheds are going to be. He has been furloughed for an initial 3 weeks but may be extended depending on advice but a lot of sheds are actually needed by farmers for lambing or milking

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 05/04/2020 11:12

Should have said that DH job is done by himself so he doesn’t have any large contact with other people

ilovecakeandwine · 05/04/2020 11:28

Well the government is paying 80% furloughed for 3 months isn't it ? I can't see it extending past that on a huge scale so definitely by then end of May .
Bars /restaurants a lot further than that and I work in the drinks industry so my job is impacted on bars / restaurants re opening so it could be a lot longer for me .

Can your employer force you to return the office if you have proven you can work effectively? I’m thinking of asking for it to become a permanent thing, I love it .

Stellamboscha · 05/04/2020 11:36

Desperately hoping back to bricks and mortar school by half term. Remote 'learning' no good for staff, pupils or parents. Trying to ignore the gleeful hope of some that we stay off till September.

GaraMedouar · 05/04/2020 11:36

I’m also thinking of asking my boss if I can wfh more - once all back to normal. I could easily do 4 days from home - and 1 in the office - for printing, scanning , that sort of thing . I would save so much on Petrol costs , and not lose hours commuting .

Slith · 05/04/2020 11:46

My next shift starts at 3 tomorrow afternoon.

Wehttam · 05/04/2020 11:49

Stella I don’t think there’s a lot of glee or hope that it runs until September, some people are just realistic and I have a feeling the schools will be planning for that eventuality behind the scenes.

Scott72 · 05/04/2020 12:19

So full, across the board lockdowns until September according to many posters?

Regarding a vaccine, it is challenging creating a vaccine for a virus. And vaccines have to be thoroughly tested to make sure they are safe. So I'd say two years, absolute minimum.

IckyIsAFuckingStupidWord · 05/04/2020 12:33

I think the schools will start to go back in September. Possibly a gradual thing so Reception/Yr3/Yr7’s first then maybe filter smaller schools in then the rest. I think everything else will be gradual and social distancing will still be heavily advised with 7/14day iso if you get symptoms still. I think the self iso of the higher risk people will be active a lot longer.

I also think that when life returns to normal, people will be very cautious for a very long time.
