@Soozikinzii Yeah, it was all over the news here and didn’t paint a pretty picture, then when I spoke to my parents, they said it was pretty calm 🤷‍♀️

@Mohster Pretty cold and pissing it down today 🙄but have had some lovely days here and there

Barbararara · 04/04/2020 23:31

Thanks @Confusedasusual78 do you know if there’s a particular way of registering yourself/identifying yourself in order to qualify for priority deliveries?

Confusedasusual78 · 04/04/2020 23:35

@Barbararara Where are they based? The large supermarkets like Continente and Apolonia are online and they should be able to access the website and register for priority etc. The waiting times for regular deliveries are around a month, so if they could get as priority it would help a lot. There’s also some smaller shops/companies delivering fresh fruits and veg at great prices with free delivery 👍

Sounds like your lock down is the same as ours

eaglejulesk · 05/04/2020 06:13

I'm in New Zealand OP, and we are on day 11 of our lockdown. We are only allowed out for exercise and for food and medical supplies, or work if you are in essential services, but our lockdown is stricter than the UK's. Our borders are shut and have been for a couple of weeks to travellers. We can do some online shopping now, but only for essentials.

borntobequiet · 05/04/2020 06:19

Love Portugal. Am so pleased we got there for a week in Jan. It was lovely and warm. Lucky you.
Now in lockdown in Midlands, have signed up with Babbel to learn Portuguese. Gosh it’s hard to pronounce. And the computer keeps telling me to pay more attention! So, can you speak Portuguese?

TheFuckingDogs · 05/04/2020 06:23

Friends in Poland, Czech Republic, US, Denmark, all sounds so similar everywhere really which is the weirdest thing about it. Everyone’s stressed at homeschooling, drinking too much, watching Tiger King 😂
Some countries do seem to have less of the frothing/reporting the neighbours etc
Is the reporting the neighbours/posting pictures of people out in the park to Facebook a thing in Portugal OP?!

BarbaraofSeville · 05/04/2020 06:35

So the rules in Portugal sound pretty much the same as the UK and your comment about 'initially there were issues in the North with holiday makers heading to the south to go on beaches' suggests that there has been similar issues as the UK with people still travelling to popular outdoors sites causing overcrowding.

A cause of this in the UK is people living in small flats with no outdoor space which increases the temptation to go out to local city parks, which looks like a lot of people in crowded cities like London. But I saw on another thread that many Spanish and Italian apartment dwellers had balconies they can use, so a big difference. Is this also the case in Portuguese cities?

Before I saw your comment I was thinking earlier that we'd not heard anything about the situation in Portugal, despite so much about Italy, Spain and France and Germany to a lesser degree. Sounds like it's not do bad there (yet?).

PieceOfMaria · 05/04/2020 06:44

Do you have clapping for cats? etc.

😂😂😂

No, but give it time and I’m sure there will be one in the UK.

Whatwedontknow · 05/04/2020 07:07

Are your borders closed? I really can’t understand why the U.K. have people arriving everyday without quarantine.

eurochick · 05/04/2020 07:11

Most people are complying here. We have some huge cities, which is why city parks get busy at certain times. And a stupid mainstream press, always looking to do us down.

BurneyFanny · 05/04/2020 07:35

Portugal has regularised all illegal immigrants so they feel free to come forward for medical treatment. Excellent decision by a grown up government.

Confusedasusual78 · 05/04/2020 11:22

@eaglejulesk New Zealand is looking a lot safer at the moment 💜

OP posts:
Confusedasusual78 · 05/04/2020 11:38

@borntobequiet It’s so hard 🙈I do, but I’m not 100% fluent, my other half is though as he works in an all Portuguese company so had to pick it up pretty much straightaway

OP posts:
Confusedasusual78 · 05/04/2020 11:42

@TheFuckingDogs Yep 🙈😂For example, it was on Fb on Friday night a video of the police arriving at a nearby apartment that was having a party (loud music, dancing on th terraces etc) the police went in to break it up and across other balconies, people were cheering. We’ve also been told to call the police if anyone from the North arrives at their holiday home over Easter 😬 so if someone on the street arrives, you call them..I couldn’t do it personally, even though I’d be pissed off they’d come! Our neighbour lives in Sintra and comes here on a regular basis, they’ve not so far and don’t think they will, they’re older and he’s a retired doctor, so I imagine they’re taking it seriously.

OP posts:
Confusedasusual78 · 05/04/2020 11:45

@BarbaraofSeville It doesn’t seem to be as bad as those other countries yet and hoping it stays that way. I’m not in a city, so we have open spaces around and generally most people in apartments etc have balconies, so there’s some chance of air at least, but it’s not ideal.
Here, they were actively coming down and crowding into the beaches to sunbathe 🤷‍♀️We also had lots of tourists drinking outside etc, but they clapped down on all of that v quickly. No one went to playgrounds and so on.

OP posts:
Confusedasusual78 · 05/04/2020 11:47

@Whatwedontknow A lot of people are really angry as floghts are still allowed in from the uk etc 🤷‍♀️We’ve had posts on local forums asking what’s open to do when they get here for holidays..erm..fuck all! Stay at home, it’s incredulous that some people would decide to go on holiday.

OP posts:
Confusedasusual78 · 05/04/2020 11:48

@BurneyFanny (Great username by the way 😂) Yeah, on lots of things, they’ve been pretty good so far 🤔

OP posts:
Confusedasusual78 · 05/04/2020 11:50

@TheFuckingDogs And yes to the Tiger king, drinking too much and coping with kids (well, one toddler for me) at home 😂it seems to be a worldwide thing.

OP posts:
CaroleBaskin · 05/04/2020 12:21

Why are people being rude to OP? Of course it's interesting to see how other countries are doing it. Does Portugal not have the same level of gore as Italy and Spain so you aren't interested?

OP, were you on holiday and stuck out there or do you live there?

Confusedasusual78 · 05/04/2020 14:33

@CaroleBaskin Thanks 🌸 I did think some of the initial comments were bitchy for no reason.
We live out here 🇵🇹

Barbararara · 05/04/2020 17:15

@Confusedasusual78 thanks. That’s very helpful.

katscamel · 05/04/2020 17:21

I'm in Algeria and things are pretty calm in the town where I live. For the last week or so we've had a 7pm-7am curfew which changed to a 3pm curfew today. All a bit rubbish to be honest. A 7pm curfew gave people all day to shop whereas now everyone is out shopping in the limited hours they have so more chance of passing things on.

Unlike the UK and most other countries,.it's not somewhere you'd do a big shop as supermarkets are closed and everything is bought from grocers and bakers etc on a daily basis. Though I haven't been here long, it doesn't seem to be the culture to head to a supermarket and stock the freezer, in fact many people don't have freezers. There is an element if social responsibility in that many shops are only allowing 2 or 3 people in a time and I did the chemist has put out tape 1m apart... better than nothing.

Changednamesorry · 05/04/2020 17:26

Not sure why OP is getting harsh responses, my Spain post was not so harshly received.
