Is there one rule for the rich and another for the poor

Therichhavenorules · 04/04/2020 18:24

I know I'm not BU, but I have to rant and hopefully get some replies. Maybe I am?

We live as 'staff' on a rural estate in Norfolk where the owners are multi-millionaires with houses all over the world. We look after their country retreat all year round. We live in a cottage in the grounds. Not a bad situation, but it has its drawbacks. One is, when they are here they have loud parties that take over and zero consideration for us. There are several cottages in the grounds, mostly empty most of the year except for these parties.

They have three children (30s) who live in London. TODAY, middle of lockdown their three adult children decide to arrive with their partners, six adults in total. They've moved into the cottages in the grounds. Its a private estate so no Police to tell them to go indoors. Apparently they'll quarantine, but already they're drinking and starting to party.

They've driven down from London and are blatantly flaunting the rules. The rich are immune to rules. The poor stick to them. If the examples are to be believed and one infected person could infect up to almost 500 people eventually, that means they've potentially brought the virus and could infect up to 3000 people.

I hate them all, they're rude, entitled, snobby, unpleasant cruel people most of the time. We have no choice at the moment, but I for one will be looking to move on as soon as I can.

If a person gets caught stealing a loaf of bread then the law applies equally whether you are rich or poor

ohhhh I see Xenophobia is still here with the delightful comments.

Sickofrain · 04/04/2020 19:41

if you hate them so, why do you accept their cash?

Ferfooksek · 04/04/2020 19:42

Maybe you should get another job, OP you sound like an inverted snob and btw, I live in a poor area of the NE. There are loads of people around here taking the piss

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 04/04/2020 19:43

I think you should find a new job. You sound like you hate this family.

OhTheRoses · 04/04/2020 19:46

Xenophobia? That's crass and cruel when facts are being quoted.

FWIW 3 out of the four I have quoted are Indian; one is white but not English. Nothing to do with Xenophobia; everything to do with fact. However, one of the law abiding lawyers is also Indian and her dh is Iranian.

Bishybarnybee · 04/04/2020 19:46

Why are you working for people you don't respect?

73Sunglasslover · 04/04/2020 19:46

I see lots of ordinary folk flouting the guidelines too. I don't think they can infect you if you take precautions, like not touching anything they might have touched even if that means you can't do your job fully right now.

SandyY2K · 04/04/2020 19:47

Both the rich and the not so rich break rules and laws.

AnotherEmma · 04/04/2020 19:48

OhTheRoses I think user might have been referring to Xenia's post? Not sure though.

OhTheRoses · 04/04/2020 19:57

Thank you @AnotherEmma I knew exactly to whom user was referring. Somebody with whom we may not always agree but who is never ever personally offensive in the way user was to individual posters.

Xenia and I do not always see eye to eye but I have never seen any malice in Xenia.

happinessischocolate · 04/04/2020 19:59

Sadly many families will wish they hadn't done this, I can't find the link now but there was a family in America who all got together for the mums birthday, within 2 week 4 of them were dead including the mum and another 3 seriously ill in hospital.

AnotherEmma · 04/04/2020 20:00

But what has the fact that they're Eastern European immigrants got to do with it?

HermioneWeasley · 04/04/2020 20:03

They are nobs for coming to a rural area and potentially spreading the virus, but complaining that they have parties in their own house as an example of their selfishness sounds unreasonable IMO

rwalker · 04/04/2020 20:11

The point of travel is unreasonble . But about the parties it's there house sorry.
You don't sound like you like them look for another job

Bringringbring12 · 04/04/2020 20:12

You’re in the wrong job OP

longwayoff · 04/04/2020 20:17

Its the same the whole world over
Ain't it all a bleeding shame
Its the rich what gets the pleasure
Its the poor what gets the blame

Twas ever thus OP and always will be. I'd suck it up frankly, this is no time to lose both house and job.

roarfeckingroar · 04/04/2020 20:28

If you hate them so much maybe you shouldn't work for them / live on their land.

If they're staying now until lockdown is ending, I can see why they've chosen to do it.

Rosieposy4 · 04/04/2020 20:37

The idea that it is only the wealthy breaking the current rules is laughable.
I had some meat delivered today ( regular small local supplier, strictly 3m distancing etc etc) and she had been out all day delivering.
Mostly very quiet was the report apart from a local small town which would be the poorest locally where she said there were literally crowds of folk out.
Anecdotally from my own observations out in the sticks it’s mostly cyclists as I find it very hard to believe the large groups coming down the country lanes are all members of the same household. I suspect they run across the income groups.

Jaxhog · 04/04/2020 20:41

There are selfish stupid people at all levels of society, unfortunately.

lmcneil003 · 04/04/2020 20:46

This post reeks of jealousy. It's very unattractive.

gordongopherthe3rd · 04/04/2020 20:46

3 children? Norfolk? London? I wonder who you could be talking about!

Seriously though, it's always been the case that there are different rules for the poor to the rich. DS1 was saying earlier that it's ridiculous the number of celebrities who are moaning about the lock down - he said one (can't remember who) had posted a photo of himself in the gardens of his mansion by his swimming pool saying how awful lockdown was. Fucking twat.

ferntwist · 04/04/2020 20:49

Totally selfish and out of order of them OP. No wonder you’re pissed off. They’ve clearly broken multiple rules.

Bella2020 · 04/04/2020 20:52

I'm with you, OP. The sort of education these people seems to drill self assurance into them and, sadly, that sometimes leads tobarrrigance and entitlement. I loathe these types with every fibre of me.

mrsBtheparker · 04/04/2020 20:54

Maybe you should get another job

After this post, which is quite detailed and probably identifiable to the people to whom it relates, the decision about getting another job may be taken out of OP's hands!
