To not understand clapping for kids

Why are we now doing this? The premise I’ve seen is that their lives have been turned upside down, no longer able to see family or friends. Isn’t that all of us? And surely if they don’t understand why we’re on lockdown, they’re not going to understand us clapping?
Hasn’t this gone a bit far?
I do have kids, and they are most definitely affected, but I don’t feel the need to clap for them especially and they don’t want me to.

Ridiculous
And the aftermath of the day after the clapping Facebook full of “well down on the clapping Creepy Close”

Jellycatfox · 04/04/2020 11:30

@BrooHaHa oh yes it is 7 or 8. Great when you have a toddler and a baby trying to calm them down and make them sleep

Hillbillyhotel · 04/04/2020 11:32

I fully agree. I’ve two kids and they’re coping amazingly well but, they’re home doing all sorts of fun things and they have no choice but to stay home because I’m their mum and they have to do what I say. Not like NHS staff who are risking their lives and going to work scared. It detracts from their selflessness.

MrsHusky · 04/04/2020 11:32

its dumb

tbh, i'm sick to death of seeing all this.. clap for this, dance for that, put this in your window.

just fuck off with it all already.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 04/04/2020 11:32

I told my 13 year old DD about this and she said "why? I'm literally sitting on my backside playing on my playstation* whilst not having to go to school for months. It's great"

*She isn't just doing that before anyone comments on it!

TwoMuchTwoYoung · 04/04/2020 11:33

It’s 3pm Broohaha - come on join in or you may get reported!

SnowfallSnowball · 04/04/2020 11:35

I saw this on FB this morning too!

To not understand clapping for kids
Cremebrule · 04/04/2020 11:38

The rainbows is much better. Something for them to do and spot. My 1 yo is oblivious but the 3yo really is missing her friends and going out. I’m interested in the people saying their 3/5 year olds are having the time of their lives. What are you doing? Mine is miserable and we’re doing all the baking, crafting, phone dates etc that we can.

RightOnTheEdge · 04/04/2020 11:39

Yep Snow that's all over my Facebook too!

Pelleas · 04/04/2020 11:42

The original clap for the NHS was a nice idea. Now, people are just jumping on the clapping bandwagon to garner likes on social media.

There should be a moratorium on clapping now. When (if) this is all over perhaps we could have a clap for everyone.

MotorwayDiva · 04/04/2020 11:42

We shall not be doing this. Love the rainbows though as we are trying to get DD walking further each day to build her upand the rainbows help as we say, shall we find some more. Etc

HuggedTheRedwoods · 04/04/2020 11:42

Its outrageous to suggest clapping for kids - where is the Purr for the Puss slot? Poor HuggedCat sits at the gate every morning wondering where the passers by have gone, going without the extra slavish praise and attention.

All at your doors Purring for Puss 8.45am, Monday morning please.

lanbro · 04/04/2020 11:42

My dc are having a great time, playing in the garden, having their parents around (divorcedand usuallylive separately), lots of screen time...

zigaziga · 04/04/2020 11:43

Just the normal. Garden, artwork, playing, Lego, TV (lots!), books ... it’s no different to his normal life except his Dad is around more (still going out to work as key worker but no socialising so straight home) and he doesn’t go to school which he did quite like but was more excited when it was a weekend. This is just like a permanent weekend.

Vaginandtonic · 04/04/2020 11:43

Also the tagline 'Clap for the Kids' just seems a bit inappropriate Grin

This is just so pointless and will mainly be perpetuated by people who are already making their kids anxious by making a huge deal of the whole lockdown thing.

BovaryX · 04/04/2020 11:43

Aren't people getting tired of the clapping demands and their enforcers?

Squirrelblanket · 04/04/2020 11:44

It's ridiculous. Children's lives are often about following rules they don't understand, lives they never imagined. Such as starting school etc. That's what growing up is.

This is complete projection by whichever group of parents came up with the silly idea.

Connie222 · 04/04/2020 11:45

Bloody hell we’ll all be out clapping 24/7 at this rate.
How stupid.

BrooHaHa · 04/04/2020 11:45

My apologies, I did not know. I think we may need to join them, if we can't beat them. Start making fliers for Facebook- I think Monday for delivery drivers, then Tuesday for supermarket workers, Wednesday for manufacturers... We'll need to fit in police and fire/rescue somewhere too. Also, the politicians that are still working. Oh, and the bin men. And the plumbers/essential home services. And the energy suppliers/powerplant workers. Oh, and the pets. Because they're having to stay home too, poor things, and they're such a support. And the NHS volunteers. And the blood donors. And the army...

We may need more than one clap a day.

TaighNamGastaOrt · 04/04/2020 11:48

Nope.
I didnt clap for the nhs or whoever and I'll not be clapping for kids. Or dancing. Or any of the other stupid trends going round. Seriously, its like a competition as to who can cheer or clap the loudest.
Virtue signalling at its worst.
I'll support the NHS by following their advice and voting for a party who will not cut funding to the NHS.
I got tagged in a 'share your happy memories of your wedding/pet/kids' thing last night. No thank you.

social media is full of bored small minded people just now, more so than usual. The fake news, hype and stupid trends are getting silly.

joydivisionovengloves71 · 04/04/2020 11:50

The week after, it'll be clapping for the dogs who can't run around the park like they used to

Singinginshower · 04/04/2020 11:50

We will have such sore hands!

PicsInRed · 04/04/2020 11:50

Mine has one job for lockdown, which is to behave. Given key performance indicators have been patchy at best, applause seems unlikely. Hmm

GatoradeMeBitch · 04/04/2020 11:50

Bloody hell we’ll all be out clapping 24/7 at this rate.

That's probably the objective. "Clapping for nurses or whatever was fun, who can we clap for next?" It was inevitable though that some people were going to make sure their special little darlings got an event.

Maybe it's more impactful in areas where people are actually staying in. In my area it looks like business as usual. I'm not going to listen to the neighbours kids squabbling in the street all day then rush out to applaud the "little heroes".

BiggerBoat1 · 04/04/2020 11:50

The whole clapping thing is nonsense. The first time was quite a nice gesture, but now people need to just stay in their houses and stop all this.

If you're feeling grateful to the NHS remember that next time you vote.
