To want a separate section for the Covid 19 Pearl Clutchers?

You know the ones. Screaming at posters for talking to a neighbour across the street or for taking their child shopping when they have no alternatives. The ones who believe they know better than the WHO and that the virus flies 10m through the air. The ones is truly believe if you live next to massive open fields that you can't walk in them twice a day.

This situation is serious and we must follow the rules. But common sense and science must prevail and Mumsnet has gone insane and largely unbearable since this started.

YANBU.

The Corona board is full of tin foil hat crazies.
The rest of the site is full of curtain twitchers and people making their own rules up and SHOUTING AT PEOPLE for going to Tesco more than once a month and daring to buy a pack of unessential biscuits. Those who do venture out all seem to encounter gangs of elderly people who yell at them or people coughing and deserving of a lecture at the checkout.

AmelieTaylor · 03/04/2020 13:57

@cologne4711

No it’s for ALL of us to worry about. Even those staying at home are at risk because shopping/healthcare/physical care still needs to take place

I’m also happy to try to protect NHS staff (& supermarket staff & all others) by requesting people STAY HOME & stop thinking they’re the exception to the transmission of the virus.

VeryShortNotice · 03/04/2020 13:57

The CoronaStasi are extremely dull.

My granny used to be a dreadful curtain twitcher (when she was alive, if she were still here I’m sure she’d be even worse than the neighbour monitors on AIBU at the moment). Even as a child I found her obsession with when the people across the road washed their net curtains or what time people put their bins out absurd. Why would anyone care?

Barbararara · 03/04/2020 13:59

YANBU

I was hoping mumsnet might create a new section and call it “My Neighbour...”

AmelieTaylor · 03/04/2020 14:01

When you cough, sneeze, breath moist particles come out - the virus isn’t only attached to the heavy droplets, it’s attached to the tiniest ones too - they can be propelled a great distance & hang in the air. They were found in the air vents on the ships.

Try reading things by virologists/scientists - not just listening to Hancock etc they’re trying to balance deaths with the economy. Virologists are trying to save lives.

ACertainSupermarket · 03/04/2020 14:02

@Grobagsforever
Air is not static. The virus is suspended in the air for a period, not just from coughing but also exhalation (breathing out). Imagine all the eddys and slipstream in a supermarket. You are walking through air that has just been breathed out by someone else. We just don't know enough yet about how and when infectious but asymptomatic people shed the virus.

SarahInAccounts · 03/04/2020 14:03

Oh yes please.

MyEnormousTurnip · 03/04/2020 14:03

YANBU

I hid the corona board as soon as it appeared but corona threads are everywhere (understandably) and as a pp said, it’s impossible to guess which will be a reasonable thread and which will be an anxiety inducing nightmare.

I’m spending far less time on MN as a result.

Barrique · 03/04/2020 14:04

How on this earth can a virus, unless it has actual independent wings move 8m?

It's from MIT studies on how far sneezed droplets can travel.

thecatschampagne · 03/04/2020 14:07

@Thighmageddon I know that is just something people say but if you actually look at threads, people are being called cunts and told they deserve to die for having an opinion that might not fit the very narrow mould of what certain people have deemed acceptable. Women are being told not to cause a stir at home and minimise domestic abuse and bullying. All because it's 'strange times'?

I don't want to just stay away from MN because out of sight shouldn't mean out of mind.

Why is this thread not on the Corona Board Hmm

I am sick of threads about C19 do have hidden the board, but get everyone whining about the board everywhere else.

Bloody hell!

MarshaBradyo · 03/04/2020 14:30

Yes definitely put all the people who post about these people together.

MarshaBradyo · 03/04/2020 14:31

There are more of these threads. Let’s herd them up.

LilacTree1 · 03/04/2020 14:33

Vegan “ The world is overcrowded, surely this is just natures way?”

Exactly. And yes of it could take me and my loved ones, I’m a bit flummoxed that people are so shocked.

MarshaBradyo · 03/04/2020 14:34

Any that uses the term stasi, nazi should go that way -> new topic.

ALongHardWinter · 03/04/2020 14:37

Agree with you OP.

Carbosug · 03/04/2020 14:57

There's two extremes at the moment - the scaremongering, ridiculously ott stuff, and the irresponsible dismissal and poo pooing of guidelines and restrictions.
Most people hit the right balance, but there have been some very irresponsible threads and opinions posted on here.

Nekoness · 03/04/2020 15:06

Hi, I was called hysterical and told to “follow the science” when supposed scientists like the US surgeon general were tweeting shit like face masks didn’t work against helping to stop the spread. And our own newspapers were spouting nonsense like it’s more dangerous to wear them incorrectly than not wear any at all. Yes, because that made so much sense. If you wear them incorrectly you might just inhale droplets caught in the mask.... wait the same droplets you would have inhaled if you weren’t wearing one at all? 🙄

I’m not feeling very vindicated at all now that the same so called scientists are backpedaling and suddenly admitting face masks do actually work. Gasp, there’s been scientific studies that back that up all along.

And yet I was shouted down as hysterical by posters like you OP, who thought I was on those covid crazies.

So yeah, I’d maybe get off your high horse and sit right down.

PhilCornwall1 · 03/04/2020 15:14

The world is overcrowded, surely this is just natures way?

Totally agree, nature is having a mass cull and you're either on its list or not.

TheCanterburyWhales · 03/04/2020 15:24

I'm sure the families of the dead will be relieved at Vegan Veal's eugenics.

LilacTree1 · 03/04/2020 16:07

Vegan Veal is not likely to be Nature. I think Nature doesn’t post on MN.

Sallycinnamum · 03/04/2020 16:22

The complete and utter bullshit I've read on here lately has really put me off using MN, which used to be a place of sensible advice and support.

People throw out random stats with no evidence and make wild assumptions with no evidential basis whatsoever.

If I read one more thread about when the school are going to return I'm going to bloody scream.

We know the situation is serious, we know we have to stay at home but some of the threads I've read are downright dangerous.

I've hidden the corona board but now the other boards are infected with more virus related threads.

LilacTree1 · 03/04/2020 16:25

I’m really curious to know what % of the population are doing things like disinfecting shopping etc.

SarahInAccounts · 03/04/2020 16:27

Some threads read like a hilarious Monty Python sketch.
