To ask how much money you have saved since lockdown?

... Compared to same 12 days of the previous month (23rd - 3rd)? Not including the usual bills, subscriptions/direct debits and mortgage/rent, have you noticed a massive change your outgoings?

I am a self employed freelancer (as is DP) and we both rent, so definitely not an enviable position.
Between 22nd Feb and 3rd March, I just worked out that I alone spent roughly £384 on train tickets, clothes, coffees, online orders, meals out and takeaways. This same 12 days I have spent £78 (just food, essential office supplies and a cheeky lottery ticket), so that means my savings total up to about £306 in TWELVE days! I feel almost ashamed at how easily I would throw money away, and will definitely reflect on this whenever I go to buy something that I don't necessarily need in future.

It will be interesting to hear other peoples' savings stories!

Haven't quantified but probably about even as I don't go out much and eat large free breakfast and lunch at work so eat minimally in the evenings normally.Have saved about 1200 tho by not going on a ski hol I had planned to be on now.

About £2k a week loss of income

Getting £3k back for cancelled trips

Heating etc will be massive as is already £420 a month.

Food bill for 1 online and 1 farm shop was £600 this week (2 household-6 adults got 2 weeks but still much bigger than normal)

Sent a case of wine to family member home alone £139

So a big deficit here.

£100 on odds and ends
£100 - no Costco visit this month
£100- sons driving lessons postponed

However, food bills have gone up, plus son who came home for the weekend has stayed. Just ordered some clothes for him as he hasn’t any here.

Just in fuel, lunch and ASC costs it’s £500 in the 19 days since this all started.

I guess you could add 3k we were going to spend on an Easter holiday but that was coming out of savings. There would be other savings in eating out, weekend shopping trips etc but these would be outweighed by an increased grocery bill and higher energy costs.

I can't say how much exactly. It will be over 100 for sure!
Simply because we can't pop into the asda every time we fancy something.

It really made me realise how spoiled we are!

My spend has probably increased due to food for family of 4 (food prices have increased) and more laundry, electricity.

We didn't live frivously before. We would make lunch, never buy coffees etc. We were careful.

Now, with growing teens in the house I'm spending a fortune on food.

I work locally so commuting costs low. DH prob saving £100 per month, but cancelled out with increased utilities costs.

No savings yet. Saved on DS sports lessons & petrol generally. Spent more food & splashed on a table football table to provide some non-screen entertainment.

We're saving £1000 a month on childcare fees. We've also had a holiday refunded. We're happy to be able to save atm, I would say both of our jobs are at risk so we're saving while we can.

I'd also like to add that I have lost money on my Child Savings accounts. I have saved carefully and hard for 14 years and hope they recover.

And with predicted pension and property losses, people will be seriously out of pocket OP.

Our food bill is about the same. For those saying that your food bills are huge, have you offset the increase in cost of your supermarket shop against the reduction in spending on ready meals, takeaways and shop bought lunches?

Lots of people never buy ready meals, takeaways and shop bought lunches as they can't afford them or they do not buy them as they are expensive and they don't like to waste money.

For some people not being able to buy the budget brands in the supermarkets has tipped them into food poverty.

None so far, food bill has gone up massively. My son never stops eating. Have also ordered online shops for relatives who have lost income.
Also spent more on garden toys, arts and crafts stuff and educational stuff (DS has special needs so having to experiment with what works at the moment.)

None. I work in a supermarket and at the end of every shift I'm so fucked off with humans that I buy an inordinate amount of cake and chocolate to try to make me feel better.

Not just poorer but a stone heavier too.

I had ordered a 3kg bag of Purina cat food on my most recent online order - they delivered 3 800gr bags, adding £5 to the total cost of the product

I thought they didn't do that - you'd either get the substitution at the original price, or they took it back? I suppose you had to accept it if you needed catfood there and then, but they shouldn't expect you to accept less product at substantially more cost, whatever the situation.

One reason why I've never seen the attraction of online grocery shopping unless you really have no choice due to disability or no car or whatever, in most cases the service seems to be barely adequate. Missing items, short dates, expensive substitutions, needing to plan days in advance to make the order etc.

Spending more on food but am saving money overall. Have half a tank of petrol left which will last months at this rate!

Quite a bit on not going to the pub and eating out. £20 p.w. saved on school lunches. Was seriously thinking of dropping £50 in an envelope to my local pub at the point when the govt advised people to stop going to the pub but hadn't shut them down yet, so they couldn't afford to stop trading. I couldn't though, as I came down with CV19 symptoms myself at that point Sad

Less petrol, no sneaky coffees, no take away on payday, no tutoring fees or ice skating costs.
Biggest will be the euros we won't be spending on our Italy break next week and the £2k refund we should be in line for.

Down money: still paying £260 for after school club as it's a private company run by a lovely local woman and don't want the service to shut down. Still paying £260 for the cleaner cause it's the decent thing to do.Spending loads on food cause you just don't know when you will be able to get another delivery. Saving on expensive boozy lunches with friends at the weekend and dc riding lessons. All out clubs are standing order or we pay a block in advance so not saving anything there.

Not saved, actually spent more than normal - I dont think food has gone up (it just feels like it as I am doing one big weekly shop rather than dribs and drabs. I have also had to buy a (second hand) laptop and lots of craft stuff 🙈

Theatre trips cancelled, non food shopping such as clothes cancelled, the list just goes on and on.
