*2000 of 500,000 NHS staff tested.
*Germany performing nearly TEN TIMES the number of tests as the UK. despite the WHO saying for weeks and weeks that they key is to “test test test”
*Continuing shortages of basic PPE for health workers (who are being threatened if they speak out)
*Thousands of people still cramming on to public transport, with not one metre let alone 2 metre distance.
*The Government failing to sign up to the EU ventilator scheme.
*Being one of the last Western countries to close schools and implement any kind of lockdown.

I know it’s tough for everyone but this is a level of criminal negligence from the British government. Absolutely shocking.

*I’m listening to radio 4 atm and there is a marked change in tone and content. There is no longer an acceptance of anything that govt ministers are saying as being based on fact.

I’m sure you’d enjoy having a little root around in that kind of propaganda channel*

What about The Telegraph Cendrillon? That well known Tory mouthpiece.

MarshaBradyo · 02/04/2020 13:36

I don’t know, people could look at India or Ecuador rather than spend time feeling sorry or laughing at us.

Helmetbymidnight · 02/04/2020 13:39

O-kay, so we shouldn't question the fact that our front line staff dont have protective equipment due to govt incompetence because people in the third world have it worse.

unbelievable.

MarshaBradyo · 02/04/2020 13:40

No I said earlier it was glaring mishandling Helmet

alloutoffucks · 02/04/2020 13:40

We are a rich western country. Don't you think we should be doing way better than very poor countries? Or are your expectations really that low?

TheLadyAnneNeville · 02/04/2020 13:40

@Cam77, that’s a long list of questions needing to be addressed. Scandalous.

Not strictly COVID-19 but it IS referenced in terms of just how far this shitshow of a Govt. will go to cover up their indifference and lack of care for the General public they serve. From David Cameron onward.

But the idea that everyone internationally is worried most about us well maybe look elsewhere. There’s much worse going on,

MarshaBradyo · 02/04/2020 13:41

All as I said it was reference to your point everyone us laughing at us.

Ridiculous. Pretty much every western country us in the shit. And others worse.

MarshaBradyo · 02/04/2020 13:42

I’m listening to radio 4 atm and there is a marked change in tone and content. There is no longer an acceptance of anything that govt ministers are saying as being based on fact.

I’m sure you’d enjoy having a little root around in that kind of propaganda channel... wink////

I’ve been listening to radio 4 since I was a baby and my Grandmother religiously listened to The Archers every day. So now if you question the govt in any way whatsoever you are lumped into some group of undesirables who are outside of normal life? Right.

MarshaBradyo · 02/04/2020 13:46

Cendrillon what us your unbiased media?

alloutoffucks · 02/04/2020 13:48

I would rather be in a country that has taken this seriously since the beginning.
I feels so sorry for all workers having to work without decent PPE.

MarshaBradyo · 02/04/2020 13:49

I do too, I really do it’s awful. The PPE part upsets me most out of all of it.

2beautifulbabs · 02/04/2020 13:49

Working class always get stuffed over no matter what our lives don't matter to the upper class always has been that way I'm annoyed at businesses being allowed to continue to open and put peoples lives at risk for sake of making some bastard fat cat richer whilst they stay in the comfort and safety of their own home Angry that's where I'm angry at the most and I hope one day something comes to get them be it Karma with them going bust or what not

Blossomad · 02/04/2020 13:51

I work for a scientific company. They sent us all home before the government said to work from home. They bought extra PPE for staff a few months ago because they could see what was coming - most of which has now been donated to the NHS. They put in plans for home working where possible while the government was still saying to wash your hands.
I do wonder why a small company is better able to see what is coming and plan for it than a government with access to far more advice and resources.

PPE in particular is a disgrace. The Government should have been buying it since January and talking to UK firms to get them geared up to produce more. They should also have been advising the public to make home made masks.

Boris trademark is bumble his way through things while being lazy and being a coward that won't make hard decisions. He is the worst kind of leader to have in a crisis.

CLEARLY some people do know better, and act on that knowledge.

JustMySize · 02/04/2020 13:55

The Government have been reactive instead of proactive.

RoisinD · 02/04/2020 13:55

Some disturbing responses on this thread. 2000 out of 550000 NHS workers tested for Covid should tell us all we need to know about the competency or not of the Government. Shame on those who have tried to deflect.

oldbeforem · 02/04/2020 13:55

You’ve already posted that?

PPE issue is totally fair to comment on.

The rest, I think they were trying to delay fucking the economy for as long as possible to put a plan in place on how to pay people.

If they had taken any longer to do announce financial measures, everyone would have been complaining about that too.

I struggle to believe that the government are lazy or don’t care and could do more but just don’t fancy it.

MarshaBradyo · 02/04/2020 13:57

PPE is terrible

But timing I think we did the right thing. We can’t last too long in lock down. Economy and mh

HereDefenders · 02/04/2020 13:59

The government were like puppets on strings. A day or so earlier you start to see a wave of people on social media/press criticising them for keeping schools open, keeping businesses running, not enforcing lockdown, not having daily updates etc etc. And then they implement it. Government should be LEADING the initiatives. Agree that some of the issues like shortages of PPE and lack of testing are verging on criminal negligence.

BiologyIsReal · 02/04/2020 14:03

I hold no candle for this government but I think this is pretty illuminating

www.forbes.com/sites/isabeltogoh/2020/03/31/heres-how-some-of-the-countries-worst-hit-by-coronavirus-are-dealing-with-shortages-of-protective-equipment-for-healthcare-workers/

I doubt there will be any country that comes out of this smelling of roses when it is all over. The UK will be worse in some areas and better in others - as will pretty much every country.

Germany may well be a shining exception - or maybe not when the data are crunched and we identify what is the demographic they are testing.

This is going to be a case of 20-20 vision in hindsight.
