Likelihood of a revolution now?..

I’m neither pro nor anti royal. Very impartial. I certainly don’t think they’re essential but I respect the history.

AIBU to think that the current crisis could eventually motivate people to question their appropriateness in this day and age? Could a revolution potentially be on the cards?

No.

JellyfishandShells · 01/04/2020 14:13

Zero. And enough of these disingenuous, repetitive anti Royal family threads !

AvonBarksdale99 · 01/04/2020 14:15

I was only slightly pro-royal before, but if there was some kind of violent revolution to overthrow them I’d be out there defending them. That’s not the way to do things in this country.

Bezalelle · 01/04/2020 14:17

That’s not the way to do things in this country.

It's the only way to do it in any country. An armed struggle/violent uprising is the only way to unseat a monarchy. I'd be all for it.

Lllot5 · 01/04/2020 14:19

No. In a time of crisis people generally like to keep the status quo I think.

Ponoka7 · 01/04/2020 14:19

Our Royal family bring in more money than they cost. There is no need to get rid of them.

They will be the one thing that sets apart our wet island, once we hit the recession. If football doesn't immediately come back, there's very little reason to visit or take notice of us.

Aposterhasnoname · 01/04/2020 14:20

An armed struggle/violent uprising AKA civil war. You’d be all up for it?

Fuck, this countries finished.

tttigress · 01/04/2020 14:21

Erm, aren't the people being very passive in the crisis? Most people just do exactly what the government tells them.

CFeatherstone · 01/04/2020 14:22

I did wonder how some people would react when Prince Charles was entitled to a COVID test but many nhs workers were not
Conversely, I think this pandemic will bring the nation together

Purpleclownsuit · 01/04/2020 14:22

People have more important things to worry about than the royal family so there’ll be no revolution.

ooooohbetty · 01/04/2020 14:24

Nope. No need for one.

slipperywhensparticus · 01/04/2020 14:24

Considering what the government has got away with and no one blinks this has to just be a pointless exercise in typing

Wanderlust21 · 01/04/2020 14:26

Of all the things to revolt over I dont think the royal family is gonna be top of the list.

The benefits system, sure.

Abelino · 01/04/2020 14:27

I'm pretty anti-royal, but they're going to be the least of our problems for a good long while.

Aderyn19 · 01/04/2020 14:28

I think people are more preoccupied with not dying right now.
But when things get back to normal, I don't believe the RF will have endeared themselves to anybody. They've very much been MIA and if they can't be useful now it does beg the question of what their purpose.

I do wish people would stop saying they bring in more money than they cost. I don't think that's true if you count their security costs. And if the crown's assets were returned to state properly and used for the good of the population, I think we'd be better off.

Developmentconcern · 01/04/2020 14:28

Disingenuous? Please!

I really am impartial as I said in my OP. But if you think people visit the UK solely to look at Buckingham palace you are mistaken in my opinion. And I’m amazed to read that the royal family is the only thing that sets us apart from other countries!

OP posts:
Brefugee · 01/04/2020 14:29

Oh OP, no. As soon as this is over it will be back to normal. But with a massive recession to cope with.

As for the Royal Family the forelock tugging and fawning will probably be worse than every as "law' luv 'em they survived it" kicks in

TedsFederationRep · 01/04/2020 14:29

We would still need a Head of State.

Someone like Donald Trump?
Viktor Orbán?
Kim Jong-Un?
Vladimir Putin?

No thanks. I'll stick with HMQ if it's all the same to you.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 01/04/2020 14:30

Is there was going to be a revolution in this country soon, I don't think it would be a republican one. Rather more likely to be anti government.

Saddler · 01/04/2020 14:30

No chance. Possibly the most far fetched post on here

Developmentconcern · 01/04/2020 14:30

Teds - but they are elected. You can’t run away from that.

OP posts:
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 01/04/2020 14:31

Be careful what you wish for.

TedsFederationRep · 01/04/2020 14:32

Not quite. Kim Jong-Un isn't elected. Victor Orbán is fixing it so he doesn't need to be. Vladimir Putin has already taken care of that little problem.

So who would you propose for this country?

Developmentconcern · 01/04/2020 14:34

You’re talking about the concept of the head of state. You can’t compare the UK to NK.

Donald Trump - he was elected into his position just as Obama was before him. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles. My understanding is the queen doesn’t have political influence so what is the point? Happy to be educated on this.

anotherlittlechicken · 01/04/2020 14:34

No!
