Does anyone think that Boris Johnson looks really unwell.

Doing a good job?

Geez - despite seeing what was going on in other countries who were ahead of us in the contagion stakes, we had the brake on when it came to isolation measures, and no acceleration on at all when it came to protective clothing and ventilators.

This government is doing a shit job.

1forsorrow · 01/04/2020 18:03

PilesofToss I think some people have a different definition of fantastic.

corythatwas · 01/04/2020 18:11

Is there any actual evidence that Boris works hard or has ever worked hard in his life? Everything we heard before the crisis was how frustrated people were because he refused to work hard, wouldn't read documents etc etc. Have we heard anything to the contrary since?

Of course I would like to believe that the PM of the country is working his guts out at a time of national crisis (or if unable to do so due to illness, delegate to the most capable and informed people he can find). But what he ought to do is not evidence of what he is doing.

I want to see him recover- and then I want him called to account for everything he has done, all the money he has wasted on vanity projects, all the people who have died on his watch, all the scandals he has failed to address. I want the Russia report published. I want us to remember every single time he had the chance to vote for a safer, more caring society and failed to do so.

I want him held to account not only for the things he did and the things he failed to do, but also for the times when ministers of his government made cruel and morally deplorable pronouncements and he stood by and said nothing. All the things he was happy to pass before he fell ill. He could have spoken out against his government's association with eugenics. He could have kept an eye on ministers who told obvious lies and called them to account. He is responsible for any lies he has told himself.

Which fantastic job is that?

Mordred · 01/04/2020 18:18

I wish him well and hope he's recovering.

However, he and his government done a completely shit job of dealing with this crisis. They COULD have started ordering PPE for NHS staff in January, they COULD have started getting more beds prepared. They COULD have ordered testing equipment, We COULD have been like South Korea: test, test, test, and isolate. They KNEW this was coming.

The Tories have gutted the NHS for years: 17,000 beds that would've been available, gone. All their sudden support for the NHS is worth nothing at all. A lot of them think any state-funded infrastructure should be privatised: the Free Market should reign supreme, apparently. They want us to be America Junior, health 'care' system and all.

Fuck them, AND the Free Market horse they rode in on.

I cant understand why both boris and prince charles both have mild versions of the virus and are able to continue working yet an extremely healthy gym going 35 year old father of 3 in my town (who doesnt smoke or have underline health issues) is currently in an induced come and on a ventilator and his family are begging for prayers he pulls through. Call me a tin foil hat wearer but something doesnt sit right with me.

There's a worldwide shortage of remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine, and chloroquine - but we do have a very limited supply. It's not unreasonable to assume doctors are treating selected patients with these drugs.

There's so far no conclusive proof of their success - but trials have been very promising. If experts didn't think these drugs helped why is there a global shortage? Why are countries bulk ordering? Why was chloroquine available very cheaply OTC until a month ago? Why was it added one month ago to our government's list of drugs banned for parallel exports?

FaFoutis · 01/04/2020 18:26

Well said Mordred.

Well going by that toilet rolls must be a treatment because they were available until a month ago and then all got snapped up.

StoneofDestiny · 01/04/2020 19:08

Which fantastic job is that?

Not having front line staff tested because the government didn't act quickly enough, and refusing help from companies who offered to help!

LakieLady · 01/04/2020 19:09

@1forsorrow, when you're PM, can I be your chancellor?

I wouldn't wish this on anyone but my sympathies are with the family of the hitherto perfectly well 13-year old boy who died today, and the doctor who died today and all the others who've died unnecessarily because of this government's failure to act promptly and put measures, and equipment, in place when this virus was a cause for concern back in January. And failed to resource the NHS properly for nearly 10 years.

1forsorrow · 01/04/2020 19:13

LakieLady, good idea. My first priority will be PPE for the NHS, I might be biased as 2 of my kids are front line as is DIL. I keep thinking of 2 year old GD losing her mum and dad.
