AIBU to want to punch my neighbour

Jessi1972 · 31/03/2020 15:05

Hi, tried posting this with a photo earlier, but mumsnet deleted it because apparently you can identify a non mumsnetter - no you cant!!

We moved into this property 6 years ago.
Neighbour wasn't happy as he wanted daughter to move into the property - daughter doesn't want to live near parents!
Over the past 6 years we have had nothing but hassle from this neighbour.
I'm a nutshell, he doesn't like people on benefits - I'm long term sick through mental health and sever back problems.

This morning (and this was why I included photo) this neighbour was out the front cutting his grass wearing a coat with a hood, surgical gloves taped up with electrical tape to the sleeves and a scarf wrapped around his face covering his nose and mouth - his reasoning?

BECAUSE PEOPLE ON BENEFITS WILL GET IT FIRST!!!!!

Please tell me I'm not being unreasonable when I say I really want to go out and punch him in the face!

Oh forgot the best bit - he actually spat on my path when he said this!!!!

Why did you talk to him? I’m not blaming you just curious

Willow2017 · 31/03/2020 15:49

Swing away Merrill. 😉
(He deserves it.)

Jessi1972 · 31/03/2020 15:50

@DannyNedelko thank you - that made me laugh 💖💖

Sorry missed your post saying he was shouting at his wife. I wonder why he spat on your drive. Did you let him know you heard him?

Jessi1972 · 31/03/2020 15:52

@OlaEliza @WellThisIsABitShiteIsntIt I don't engage with him, he has this daily habit of standing in the garden shouting through the back door at his wife and son.

www.citizensadvice.org.uk/housing/problems-where-you-live/complaining-about-your-neighbour/

Have you complained to the council? It sounds like harassment due to a protected characteristic: namely your mental health status.

Jessi1972 · 31/03/2020 15:59

I am keeping a diary, have been advised to do this by police after previous incident.

I don't really want to ring police as they are under enough pressure as it is.

Have, however just told my mental health nurse - she says report or tell landlord (landlord is well known in my area, I live in Liverpool - landlord would definitely break social distancing rules!!!)

Thank you all for helping me - this just really knocked me this morning

Have you emailed your MP op?
He needs an ASBO...

Longwhiskers14 · 31/03/2020 16:04

Report him for the spitting. If he's already got a caution for abusing you the police will take it seriously.

Thinkingabout1t · 31/03/2020 16:06

Trying to poison your dog is illegal and should also be reported to RSPCA. Get every possible agency on your side! Make sure you document all these aggressions. Best of luck, OP. Don't let him get to you xx

LRCG · 31/03/2020 16:09

If he tried to poison your dog he sounds like he's got serious issues! Keep a diary and keep reporting these incidents!

squirrelsbizaar · 31/03/2020 16:11

He sounds horrendous in many ways, let your landlord sort him out. Maybe they'll do it a language he understands.

FlamingoQueen · 31/03/2020 16:14

I’m really sorry that you have to put up with this in your own home. No wonder his daughter didn’t want to live next door to him!

Just keep your diary going. If he were to accidentally hurt himself whilst mowing the lawn or cutting a hedge etc please just remember social distancing rules and stay well away. People like that always get their comeuppance at some point.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/03/2020 16:16

That’s disgusting, you can report him for that.

FishingPaws · 31/03/2020 16:19

He needs to move next to the problem neighbours on the puddle thread...it sounds to me like they'd fit each other perfectly.

(Leaving you and the poor woman being harassed by her vile neighbours with decent ones instead!)

CV-19 being able to selectively pick benefit claimants is up there with being able to make water flow uphill!

amysaurus87 · 31/03/2020 16:19

Report the spitting for sure, it's a disgusting thing to do at the best of times, but even more so now, and as PP have said he can be arrested for spitting.

MintyMabel · 31/03/2020 16:21

This morning (and this was why I included photo) this neighbour was out the front cutting his grass wearing a coat with a hood, surgical gloves taped up with electrical tape to the sleeves and a scarf wrapped around his face covering his nose and mouth - his reasoning?

You asked him why he was dressed like that?

he spat on my path

With a scarf covering his nose and mouth?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/03/2020 16:21

Report him for spitting 100% OP the police are taking that very seriously at the moment

Jessi1972 · 31/03/2020 16:38

@MintyMabel I didn't speak to him, heard him talking/shouting to other neighbours. He finished lawn, went in house to back garden(by this time he had removed outfit) shouted his mouth off to wife, went back into house, I went to get bin in (dustbin day) he came out to put rubbish in bin (minus outfit), saw me and then spat - I was too shocked/angry to say anything

This all happened over the space of an hour!

As a separate update the neighbour who lives the other side witnessed the whole incident (he lives the otherside) has just knocked and he's reported it to the police. Will update you more when I know more

With a scarf covering his nose and mouth?

I'm sure it would take all of a nanosecond to pull it down.

Jessi1972 · 31/03/2020 16:39

@FishingPaws I 100% agree!

OP posts:
Eckhart · 31/03/2020 16:40

If you punch him, wear surgical gloves. COVID-19 targets prats. He's almost certain to be carrying it...

TheReluctantCountess · 31/03/2020 16:42

Get out there and do some gardening of your own, coughing loudly!

Jessi1972 · 31/03/2020 16:45

@Thinkingabout1t I say poisoned, he threw out rotting chicken, reported it as Abbey needed treatment.

Abbey passed away last year and I was/still am heartbroken

His response was to stand in his back garden and laugh whilst smoking cigar!!

With a scarf covering his nose and mouth?
There's always one!
Its a scarf not a hermetically sealed space helmet. It takes 2 fingers to pull down!
