... to ask for your most hilarious/previously successful April Fool’s tricks to play on your tweens/teens, doable under lockdown?

  • apart from the obvious, and probably hysteria-inducing, “Guess what, the internet’s had to be shut down today, kids!”

Also bearing in mind that popping out to get a prop or whatever probably doesn’t amount to “essential travel”.

Thanks

Last year we had just had our new kitchen fitted, I told DH there was a big chip in the fridge door. I cut it from a large potato and then pit in on the door shelf.

formerbabe · 31/03/2020 19:10

Lockdown is over? School exams (depending on age) are back on?

This is so cruel...please no one do this to their children.

I'm pretty against tricks and April fool's day tricks played on children. It's often humiliating and upsetting for them.

DysonFury · 31/03/2020 19:12

A tip from my DD6, they are 'pranks' not 'tricks' 'tricks' are for Halloween Hmm

avrilpoissons · 31/03/2020 19:16

The best one I did was actually true - I told the DCs that it was snowing and they refused to believe me because it was 1st April. They got ready in summer dresses and shorts for school then opened the door to leave and would you believe it, it was snowing. Cue "Mum....why didn't you tell us?!" Grin

StrawberryJam200 · 31/03/2020 19:33

Thanks for all the suggestions. Sadly the bee one wouldn’t work, my wooses would hide in their rooms!

What about saying that the school have emailed to say that e-learning isn't working and therefore teachers are going to come and stay with each child for a week in rotation. Might try this one on DS2 tomorrow.

jackparlabane · 31/03/2020 19:43

Cut out toilet bowl shape out of cardboard to fit under the seat.

Draw circles on it like an archery target, cut out small hole in the middle, and label the hole 'Ultmate Level' and others Master! Advanced! Difficult! etc...

donquixotedelamancha · 31/03/2020 19:58

Practical jokes are things that are done to people by utter pricks. Don't be a prick.

Didn't take long for the offencemongers to swarm. All humour is 'problematic' these days, OP. Why not video yourself singing imagine or telling people to be kind instead?

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 31/03/2020 20:08

Well I am disappointed and it's not even the day yet!
It appears that our shower head wont open and if I put it in a hose it will block the flow🙄

TwoZeroTwoZero · 31/03/2020 20:29

Swap the cupboards round so the cereals are in the cup cupboard etc.

If you have several cereals open at once, swap the inner bags round so the cornflakes are in the cocopops box for example.

Tie the chair legs together under the table so they can't pull them out.

Make a cup of "tea" using magnetic or cardboard cutout letter Ts.

Freeze the milk but put a tiny dribble of liquid milk on top. Get it out of the freezer before they notice.

I'm seriously tempted to say that the owners of Fortnite are taking it offline at the request of the government so that teenagers can focus on their work better Grin

MrsJBaptiste · 31/03/2020 20:48

Bloody hell, we love a practical joke / being stupid in this house 😁

Jumping out from behind the shower curtain to an unsuspecting tooth brusher
Pulling DH's trousers down as he's washing up
Throwing a wet flannel in the face of the person last in bed on a Saturday

Some of you would hate us!

MrsJBaptiste · 31/03/2020 20:50

@SpruceTree I love this!

gingganggooleywotsit · 31/03/2020 21:08

Wow some right snowflakes on here! I'm sure op just wants to lighten the mood right now, and it sounds like her kids can take a joke!

ADreamOfGood · 31/03/2020 21:10

@BalloonSlayer that's genius- might make my youngest do some work!

StrawberryJam200 · 31/03/2020 21:12

BalloonSlayer your has made me lol!! Especially as I work at their school (not as a teacher though) so could pretend I’d had a quiet word with a colleague especially for them... ooo yes (rubs hands together gleefully) and swapping cereals round etc.

I think jokes can be nice or nasty, mine will be nice ones!

God i hated puerile practical jokes when I was a kid.
Do grown ups really do this shite?

TheCanterburyWhales · 31/03/2020 21:16

Well said formerbabe.
If another child did this to any of your kids any other day of the year you'd go ballistic.

formerbabe · 31/03/2020 21:26

Jumping out from behind the shower curtain to an unsuspecting tooth brusher

God i hate stuff like this...my ds once hid behind a door and jumped out at me...gave me such a shock I nearly burst into tears .

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 31/03/2020 21:27

I figured it out. Make coffees in a morning. Put stock cube in his.
In theory it should taste as a normal coffee at the beginning but turn to stock-y flavoured coffee as he drinks🤔
Meanwhile my coffee will be ok and I will be doing "what are you talking about. It's the usual coffee" so he will end up confused and questioning his own taste budsGrin

penisbeakers · 31/03/2020 21:27

@zilla1 not especially.

formerbabe · 31/03/2020 21:28

I really think you should steer clear of any tricks/pranks regarding lockdown/exams/school/teachers. This is a really strange, confusing and unsettling time for children and teens. It's not funny to toy with their emotions right now.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 31/03/2020 21:36

My dc love tricks: ds keeps hiding a giant spider in my bed or shoes. They've been asking if we're still doing them this year. They remember and talk fondly of previous years' tricks and laugh about them.

It's not mean or cruel if they're happy to join in and see allowed to play a trick on us in return.

Neverwrestlewithapig · 31/03/2020 21:39

My oldest is fascinated by April Fools Day this year so would love a prank. I hate mean tricks on people but like bit of fun so will try the jelly drink one. Thanks @WeAreTheWeirdosMister Smile As a pp said, they get a treat in the end too!

Pushmepullyou · 31/03/2020 21:43

I am definitely telling mine that school have messaged on class dojo and they have 2 hrs of compulsory home learning that they have to wear their uniform for. I fully intend to get them up and dressed and in uniform to start lessons at 10.
