To ask you about period pants?

I have wanted to buy period pants for a while. The Thinx ones get great reviews but I'd need to spend £100 buying them which is just not going to happen.

I see Sainsbury's are doing a version - Luna - for a third of the price. Anyone tried them?

Or can you recommend any others? TIA

I have modi bodi, and while they were really expensive at first, as I no longer need to buy tampons or pads I think the expense will work itself out after a while. For me the environmental impact is important, so I was willing to pay for that too.

Practically speaking I've found them amazing, I was very sceptical at first but wish I had had them when I was younger and was prone to flooding!

NewNameChange2020 · 30/03/2020 10:05

Cheeky Wipes pants are great, very absorbent and comfortable plus true to size. I also buy their reusable pads and they are very good too. I have awful heavy periods and they endure it all!

Horehound · 30/03/2020 10:08

So these are pants you just let your period flow in to?

Frogshoe · 30/03/2020 10:10

I bought the Sainsbury's ones and I'm sorry to say they are rubbish. Cheeky wipes are very good

LaneBoy · 30/03/2020 10:11

I like cheeky wipes ones although I’ve not tried any others myself. But I prefer the “sport” ones, which are a bit more expensive. They have the protection at the front as well as the middle and back.

DD has some modibodi teen ones which are good too, when I can afford it I’ll try some from there.

LaneBoy · 30/03/2020 10:12

Neither of us use them just as they are though. For DD I got them as extra security as she was leaking a lot. For me, it’s just as a back up - I use an Organicup, so it’s just in case I don’t get to change my cup on time. I only use them alone at the very end of my cycle, and also in the few days where I’m due on.

loobylou44 · 30/03/2020 10:13

We have Modibodi and Thinx ones in this house. My teenager uses modibodi and swears by them. The Thinx ones are a nicer material for sport but cost an absolute fortune as they came from the states and we had to pay import tax!

FlaskMaster · 30/03/2020 10:13

I have modibodi ones and they're great. Very absorbent and last 12 hours even on a heavy day. I'm so glad not to be using disposable sanpro anymore. The Sainsbury's ones should be fine, as they're a reputable brand. Definitely worth a try anyway.

Branleuse · 30/03/2020 10:13

I have the cheeky wipes sport ones. Dont get the cut price ones for light days though as the lining doesnt come high enough at the front so i think theyre a waste of money, but the normal updated version of the sports style are brilliant, and also the sassy ones with the criss cross bits.

FlaskMaster · 30/03/2020 10:15

Oh no, x-posted with frogshoe. That's a shame.

Floobydoodoo · 30/03/2020 10:19

I started with some cheeky wipes ones and they’re fine, but the elastic has started to go a bit etc. However as a starter they’re great & a really good price.

I’ve since treated myself to some modibodi and they are amazing - you can definitely tell the difference from the cheeky wipes ones.

I love them. Only have very light periods (due to coil) so it felt so wasteful to be using disposable stuff. Plus now everything is scented etc I used to end up feeling really uncomfortable - period pants are brilliant!

RamblingFar · 30/03/2020 10:20

I've got the Tulip pants ones (much cheaper than the other brands). They're brilliant most days, but will leak if you flood. www.tulippanties.com/

Branleuse · 30/03/2020 10:22

I much much prefer period pants to towels, cups or tampons. I just feel really secure in them.
Dd likes them too

Sunflower1987 · 30/03/2020 11:06

I just came on to ask about the tulip pants, but I see they’ve already had a mention. RamblingFar would you recommend them? I don’t flood or have particularly heavy periods, they are fairly light.

FeedMeSantiago · 30/03/2020 11:29

I have Flux undies - I bought one pair to try and then ordered the rest on black friday and got 25% off with free shipping. You can also get them in Holland and Barrett. They do IWD offers too.

I find them brilliant. I went for those over ModiBodi as Flux had my size in stock at the time.

My flow is generally light but I'm confident these would have coped with my heavier periods as a teenager, before the pill lightened them.

They're comfy and they don't smell. I have dyspraxia and struggle with tampons and moon cups, and find pads scratchy against my sensitive and fragile skin (epidermolysis bullosa simplex) so these soft knickers are perfect for me.

They're true to size, but a bit tighter than normal knickers to prevent leaks.

DesLynamsMoustache · 30/03/2020 11:43

I've got Cheeky Wipes ones (and reusable pads) and really like them. They weren't expensive either.

thecatsthecats · 30/03/2020 11:53

I've got Innersy pants and a mooncup.

Haven't perfected no leakage, but the pants take the small leakage no problem.

DaxonJaxon · 30/03/2020 11:56

Reusable pads are cheaper outlay, mine were about £20 for 10 and I love them. One of the best purchases I made, ever.
They don’t leak at all, ever. And I don’t have to go to the shop and buy san pro, which is a big plus atm!

Stickybeaksid · 30/03/2020 12:00

I have a few pairs of modibodi ones and they are great. I am not made about the ones with the mesh panels in then that seem to get a bit frayed but the traditional plain black ones are brilliant. Expensive to start with but I bought a pair every month for a few months until I had what I think are enough for me. I am about to get some washable pads for the first time as well.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 30/03/2020 12:09

we have cheeky wipes ones but just as an extra in case of leaks. the elastic lace is rubbish - washed at low temp and so on but it is doing that elasticy thing of pealing out of the lace which is irritating BUT we are pleased with them, definitely helps with confidence. I would say though they are very short in the body. so width wise they come up quite big but depth wise they are very short.

40thisweek · 30/03/2020 12:11

Another vote for modibodi.

motherheroic · 30/03/2020 12:11

Do they stay dry? Or is there a kind of wetness to them? I have a cup that I love but would love to be even lazier to be honest.

MrsFionaCharming · 30/03/2020 12:24

I have a couple of pairs of the Sainsbury’s ones. I bought them to trial, and am waiting for the next 25% sale to stock up.

I was really impressed by them. I wore them on the heaviest day of my period, from around 7, until I got in from work at 6, then changed as they’d only just started to feel damp. They’re really comfortable. The only issue I had with them was a slightly plasticky smell, which I’m hoping goes after a few washes.

PeppaisaBitch · 30/03/2020 12:32

I like my Sainsbury's ones. I use them I conjunction with a tampon in case I leak. (Always wore a pad with tampons anyway) and then I can wear them all day for the last two days of my period. I also wear mine for running as my pelvic floor isn't what it used to be.

eatyourcake · 30/03/2020 12:34

I've been using Thinx for over a year, yes they are expensive, however I started with 2 pairs to try and slowly built up to 8, it does save money over time, and of course you cut down on waste. On heavy days have to change them in the middle of the day if I am at home, or I do use a tampon as an extra if I'm out, otherwise the pants can't cope, although I haven't tried the new super hiphuggers that hold 4 tampons worth.

The only negative of all the period pants I've looked at is.. panty lines, especially the horizontal line of where the padding ends, I feel self conscious about it and have to pick clothing that hides this for a couple of days, or use a tampon.

motherheroic they feel like a pad, gets a bit moist, it is fabric after all. Wish I could use a cup but it's not for me :(
