AIBU not to go to hospital (warning, mentions miscarriage)

Yes, I know one of these threads. I get irritated by them as well, and I'd probably go if it wasn't for the fact my local hospital is one of the worst hit for CV.

I am (was) nearly 12 weeks pregnant, and started bleeding last night. It seemed to slow down this morning but the awful cramps started. Went to A and E on 111's advice, though I didnt see much point. I've had a MC before, I knew I couldn't get a scan but the staff were v kind and told me to come back if it gets bad.

Trouble is, it's ramped up a lot quicker than my last MC. I've lost quite a bit of blood, clots the size of my hand and now feeling quite faint whenever I stand up. I just can't face going back to the hospital unless absolutely necessary though. AIBU to think I can manage this at home, or at least wait until morning as long as I dont move too much? I'm not in agony, just worse than average cramps, though I was getting some pins and needles in my fingers earlier. When I went in this morning, it was very quiet but the only other person there had a bad cough. I really don't want to risk my family's health if its avoidable.

You need to ask a professional for advice. I'm sorry it's happening, I've been there, once I needed medical intervention.

MouthBreathingRage · 29/03/2020 17:41

I can't seem to get through to 111 again, but obviously there's bigger things going on! I've barely eaten all day, so I was thinking at least try and have dinner (thank you Dominos for still being open), get the children to bed and then head back if needed. I'm hoping to hold off until morning though, I think I'm being horribly optimistic there.

I’d say if you are passing clots of that size then you need to be seen.
I’m so sorry that you are going through this.

MouthBreathingRage · 29/03/2020 17:48

Thank you. I'm bloody sorry too, been a bit of a shit year (never mind CV) and this just feels like another kick when I'm already down. Cant feel too sorry for myself, there's obviously much worse going on but it's still a bit crap.

I think the faintness on standing is a red flag, sorry. This is likely to be because your blood pressure is dropping on standing, and suddenly low BP is likely to be from blood loss. I think you should go in.

Sorry for your loss OP. Flowers

BuffaloCauliflower · 29/03/2020 17:51

So sorry Flowers i think A&E is advisable all things considered.

BiBiBirdie · 29/03/2020 17:53

Didn't want to read and run but agree, a+e is for the best Flowers

Shamoo · 29/03/2020 17:56

I’m so sorry for your loss. What a difficult and horrible thing to be going though. Thoughts are with you.

I have had two MC and did them both at home, So I opened the post ready to say I think it’s ok to not go in. But that amount of blood loss does sound like a real worry. My clots were not that big but even then I did pass out and was very dizzy etc, so if yours are that much bigger you may well need medical support.

Much love to you.

Incontinencesucks · 29/03/2020 17:57

Can you call your midwife? I'm so sorry this is happening too. I also miscarried a few years ago and needed medical attention.

Incontinencesucks · 29/03/2020 17:58

On reflection with clots and dizziness, a&e.

WaitroseCheapestVodka · 29/03/2020 17:59

To add, when I had my first MC at 5wks my GP was on a low threshold for sending to me A&E for a BP of 110/70, I was Hmm but the risk of complications from blood loss is very real.

SingforAbsolution · 29/03/2020 18:00

I'm so sorry OP, but you need to go to A&E. Immediately.

PatchworkElmer · 29/03/2020 18:01

I think you need to go in OP.

Geepipe · 29/03/2020 18:02

Go to A&E op. i had a serious hemmoridge with my miscarriage in nov and was hospitalised for 2 days on numerous drips and a blood transfusion on standby. Sorry this is happening to you Flowers

Marieo · 29/03/2020 18:03

The size of the clots and feeling faint when standing are worrisome (although admittedly if you haven't eaten all day that might not be helping with the light headedness). I would seek medical assistance, sorry OP Flowers

MouthBreathingRage · 29/03/2020 18:10

No community midwife available until tomorrow, they're very specific in my area with 'any trouble before 12 weeks, go to A and E'. Seems like a big waste of resources to me but what do I know.

My blood pressure had jumped up this morning (was 144/90 I think, usually around the 120/80 mark), so I'm not sure what the hell is going on with it.

Ok, I'll try and go back this evening. Thank you for the advice everyone, I know what's sensible but it completely contradicts all safety common sense at the moment. Just want to have a hot bath and a good cry, but the former will definitely cause me to faint right now.

Can you ring the hospital or 111? Most hospitals have early pregnancy assessment units and you can be referred straight there rather than attending a&e?

acornhealthcoaching · 29/03/2020 18:21

@mouthbreathingrage I'm so sorry for your loss, horrible at any time, but particularly stressful in this situation. I'm a gynae nurse -please go to a+e ASAP or at least call 999 and be assessed at home. Passing such large clots and feeling faint are usually signs that a your body is having trouble passing all the tissue on it's own. It may be able to be quickly fixed by a gynae Dr, but if you leave it, it may get worse. I understand your concerns about going to hospital at the moment, but the risks to you from coronavirus are likely much lower, than the risks of you haemorrhaging. Sending you my best wishes and a virtual hug.

Bluetrews25 · 29/03/2020 18:48

Some days I work in ED. There have been smaller numbers of patients than usual turning up for the last few weeks. Our ED is split into two halves - the 'dirty' for those with suspected covid, and 'clean' for the others.
So there is segregation going on.
Sorry you are going through this, and sorry it is happening now.

This happened to me last year. I thought the same and left it as long as I could, hoping it would ease up. I fainted and fell on the bathroom floor. I lost a lot of blood, my heart rate went up and blood pressure dropped and had to call an ambulance in the middle of the night as I was alone, have an emergency D&C that morning and a blood transfusion plus antibiotics and iron tablets. Please do go.

Incontinencesucks · 29/03/2020 21:01

Did you manage to go?

MouthBreathingRage · 30/03/2020 00:42

I did go, actually just waiting to go home now. The bleeding and dizziness have subsided so really just need my bed now. They said to come back if the severe symptoms return. Thanks for the advice everyone.
