If you wear contact lenses

This isn't an aibu but it won't let me change it, if you wear contact lenses how much do you pay per month and do you get dailys or monthly lenses? Do you get any benefits from paying direct debit? I used to get a free pair of glasses each year and replacements if I needed, haven't had them for over 2 years so wondering how much roughly they'll be and where's best to go xx

I get dailies but only wear them occasionally. I get them through Boots and get 50% off my Glasses as a result. I think I get sent 30 pairs every 2 months and it's about £25 by dd.

Haveitheright · 29/03/2020 10:23

I pay £12 a month from Asda, I think the minimum order is 3 months worth. They are monthly lenses. I used to get them from specsavers but they no longer offered those lenses and their own equivalent were twice the price, same for Tesco opticians which were taken over by vision express.
However there are newer lenses -more breathable, better comfort, newer material- that they always offer when I go for check ups but I just say these are fine and I’m on a budget and can’t afford to pay any more.

Dailies work out very expensive so, although convenient, it is cheaper to have monthly lenses and pay for contact lense solution. Asda don’t do direct debit though but do text/email you a reminder to re order then post the 3 months of lenses out to you.

I do and I was paying £54 pm multi focal lenses from scrivens.Because i have been doing long hrs at work i have been wearing my glasses so I have got about 5mths worth of lenses .My check was up for a renewal just before everything shut the opticians rang me but i didn't book it .I have now cancelled my DD .I did get the free glasses entitlement but never used it .I am just going get a spare £19 pair off somewhere like glasses direct have used them before they are good .
You are best shopping round when all this is over .You can either so scheme like i did or get your prescription then buy online .I will do that I think when everything opens again mainly because the stockpile i got now and i was paying each month.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 29/03/2020 10:28

£13 per month. Specsavers. free aftercare and eye tests. Some reduction on glasses, but it's a drop in the ocean as I need indeed lenses.

2littleguineas · 29/03/2020 10:29

€17 for 32 pairs with day soft. That includes delivery, I think the lenses are about €13 so if I ordered a few months supply it would be cheaper.

lilyheather1 · 29/03/2020 10:31

£30 for 3 months worth from lenses direct

Thewomeninthemirror · 29/03/2020 10:31

£19 a month from boots.
I only wear them about 3 times a week normally.
It include free eye tests, 50% off glasses and 10% off boots products 😁

inwood · 29/03/2020 10:33

Dailes £30 a month inc delivery. Can get cheaper but I prefer the ones I use - focus dailies - they just suit me better. I buy a month at a time, if you buy 3/6/12 months the price goes down a bit.

juneybean · 29/03/2020 10:33

I've got monthlies with specsavers and pay about £9.50 a month and they come 3 months at a time in the post. Get discount glasses and free eye tests.

AnxiousOverCovid · 29/03/2020 10:40

I wear daily disposables from Specsavers, £25/month direct debit. I get a free pair of glasses (up to a certain amount, then it becomes money off glasses) once a year and a free eye test once a year and free aftercare appointments. The aftercare appointments are really useful as if I notice my eyesight has changed I just book an appointment and get a new prescription straight away rather than having to wait for my annual eye test. I get 3 months supply delivered straight through the letterbox and if I ever need an extra box I just ring up my local branch and they order a box in for me. I've used them for 9 years now and never had an issue.

I'm paying £35/month for dailys. Now wondering if I should switch to monthlies.

bucketofgin · 29/03/2020 10:44

£13 a month for monthly lenses and solutions from Specsavers. Includes all appointments (in normal times)

waitingfor40 · 29/03/2020 10:49

£13pm from Specsavers includes monthly lenses, solution, aftercare appointments, free eye tests, free or discounted glasses depending on the price. Grin

Greendin · 29/03/2020 10:51

£18.00 a month for monthly lenses from Specsavers. Free aftercare, free eye test (free anyway as I live in Scotland), discount on a new pair of glasses every two years

bokkleorandoove · 29/03/2020 10:52

£30pm for dailies from boots inc aftercare and tests. 50% off every pair of glasses/lens. If you're on the direct debit scheme, you get 10% off own brand boots products when you use you advantage card.

I switched from specsavers, which was also £30pm but I preferred the customer service and the optician in boots.

scarfaceace · 29/03/2020 10:56

£13 for 30 pairs with Daysoft, including delivery. I only wear one lens so they last me two months.

cantthinkofanythingwitty · 29/03/2020 10:57

I pay £6 per month direct debit. I only need one so its half price. There is no discount with boots opticians ro have them on direct debit but you do get all opticians appointments free and 50% of glasses if you have the direct debit. I asked if I was tied in for a certain amount of time due to the discounts and they said no. This was in the last 2 weeks

cantthinkofanythingwitty · 29/03/2020 10:57

They are monthlies

ClassicallyConditioned · 29/03/2020 11:03

I use contactlenses.co.uk - reliable service and much cheaper than the high street brands

NeedsAnotherGin · 29/03/2020 11:06

Daysoft lenses here. They're about £35 for 3 months supply. Never had a problem with them

BanjoStarz · 29/03/2020 11:12

£33 a month from Specsavers - have astigmatism and super high prescription though, get free glasses up to £69 or £69 off if I buy more expensive ones and all aftercare.

Have to go instore to collect them though as they don’t do home delivery on my special lenses - and was due to pick up the next three months supply beginning of April. Might call them and see if they will pause direct debit to be honest.

Spam88 · 29/03/2020 11:15

Think I was paying £19.50 for 10 pairs of dailies a month with vision express. Monthlies are cheaper and there were cheaper dailies available if they're suitable for you. Paying by DD with vision express gives you free (well...included) eye tests and aftercare, an £80 voucher towards glasses, unlimited replacement of lost or damaged lenses and solution for monthlies.

goldierocks · 29/03/2020 11:23

I love my Bausch & Lomb contact lenses! They are monthly disposables, i.e. you leave them in 24/7 and change every 30 days. No need for cleaning solutions (although I have saline just in case I ever need to rinse).

I pay £59.96 every 6 months, so just under £10 a month from Vision Direct (used to be Lensway). I've been using this particular brand for 19 years and have quite a strong prescription.

Icanflyhigh · 29/03/2020 11:25

@goldierocks
I have the same and they are brilliant!
Wouldn't change them for the world!!

Elouera · 29/03/2020 11:25

I read an article to say NOT to wear contacts in the current crisis due to the risk of passing corona from your hands/fingers to your eyes.

Warning: I used to buy 'day soft' brand, which make their own, cheaper versions, of the popular brands. I wore these for 5+ years, without issue. I then started to get a red, painful, bullseye effect on 1 eye. Long story short, I ended up at the eye hospital and required weeks of treatment. I was told that cheap lenses allow less oxygen through, and although some people can cope, your eyes will eventually suffer. I've now used dailies 1 for 3yrs without issue. I've used Mister Spex and vision direct. I just buy as I need them, as wear them rarely now.
