Due to an increasing amount of time stuck inside or queuing for milk and bread I thought I'd share some of the idiots I've seen since lockdown started.

Man walking his dog in a gas mask, dog had a face mask on too.

Family of 6 shopping in asda, all had a trolley to comply with the 1 trolley 1 person rule.

Woman in asda spraying dettol on loose carrots before she packed them.

What else have we seen?

OP posts:

Had to nip to local co op, there was a young woman with her son around 3/4 yrs old
Stood in the middle off the aisle chatting and singing away with him, like she had all the time in the world. Could see me stood there 2 mtrs away waiting for her to move on so I could get what I wanted of the shelf. Still carried on with her son, in the end I ended up going to the next aisle to come back round!! Some people are just not getting the 2 mtr space. I think they should do a one way direction system
Dp saw woman with about 5 kids on scooters and bikes taking the width of the pavement going to local shop. All through the bikes down and was about to all go in the shop! Till mum said no.

CarpeVitam · 29/03/2020 13:54

What a mean-spirited thread ☹️

Italiangreyhound · 29/03/2020 13:54

Agree with autimnrose, Sapphires, that is so gross. Thank you for working. Flowers

loulou0987 · 29/03/2020 13:58

What you have seen is frightened people. No one will handle this perfectly, everyone Can be kind.

UnaCorda · 29/03/2020 13:59

I'll post what I want within guidelines thanks.

Especially if that means telling other posters what they should and shouldn't post, whether people should or shouldn't clap for the NHS, etc., etc.

pointless finger-pointing

I’m enjoying all the people who think they’re immune because (insert speshal reason).

I’m bemused by the “it’s all a government conspiracy” posts.

And I’ve laughed to myself about the people wearing face masks. It wouldn’t be kind to the wearers to reveal the evidence about how useless they are, as I know they are probably just worried, but it’s a useful barometer of —twat— people’s lack of critical thinking.

But then I see the latest update from Trump, and my sense of humour fails me. Because I’m scared that thousands of people are going to die. And maybe people’s batshitness isn’t so bad in the scheme of things.

panicstationsready · 29/03/2020 14:00

All these people suddenly exercising? That'd be me, but I'm not 'suddenly' exercising, but that normally I would be doing it at work, walking and getting my steps, now I'm WAH I don't. In my office it is 250 steps to the loo, in my house it's 5. See where this is going? Hmm

AutumnRose1 · 29/03/2020 14:02

granadagirl I’d have said, “excuse me, I’m keeping back, do you need anything from that shelf?”

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 29/03/2020 14:03

I also saw a man in a gas mask. Next doors dog went ballistic when he walked past. (We were in our respective front gardens at the time)

ChilliMayo · 29/03/2020 14:03

People should be very careful when deciding to take up cycling or running because they are denied their usual form of exercise. The potential for injury is great and then you may be just adding to the problem by needing first aid or prescriptions for painkillers and anti inflammatories. Stick to what you know and if you don't know then just walk fast for 1 minute then slow for 1.5 minutes.
Others, stop spending your time staring out of the window at everyone else. That way lies madness. Go and descale your shower heads or something.

Zilla1 · 29/03/2020 14:05

Al1, don't mention unless the masks are fitted and the correct standard, at best they'll reduce the risk of other people catching the wearer's infections rather than protect the wearer.

You can image how HCPs feel when they see health PPE 'stolen/diverted/other and worn by morons outside when there hasn't been enough/correct/unexpired PPE in much of primary and acute for the entire period of the crisis despite what government have said.

TabbyMumz · 29/03/2020 14:08

I'm amazed there are so little people out taking their daily exercise. Just come back from ours, walked for about 45 mins round our village /estate (quite suburbia), and saw about 6 people. Saw more cars than people. These are the people who are going to be struggling with mental health in 5 or 6 weeks time. Take your walks before they stop that too!!!
Currently they want you to exercise. The less people exercise now, the more unfit they will be when this ends and the NHS will have that to cope with too.

pingbloodyping · 29/03/2020 14:09

‘ EverdeRose

I overlook a field and I'm enjoying watching all the people who seem to think the 1 hour of exercise is mandatory.
The amount of people I've seen riding bikes or running who have obviously never done it before, I think I watched one woman fall off her massively oversized bike 10 times, she was wearing the amazing get up of a child's helmet, a pain of shin pads and flip flops.’

Honestly, the sheer ill will of some people on here, mocking others. Perhaps the lady in the bike usually swims or plays tennis ornsomething else that’s now closed off to her and is trying something different. Perhaps the runners are hikers who can walk for 10s if miles but are trying to comply wi the restriction ruins and running instead to get their heart rates up.
Everyone’s just trying to get on with life as best they can. We all are.

MrsSnitchnose · 29/03/2020 14:16

@panicstationsready This is me too. I would be down around 300 calories burnt on the average day and struggling not to eat everything in the house

Maduixa · 29/03/2020 14:16

Why on earth flip flops?

I wonder if she's meaning to clean/disinfect her clothes (or at least her outerwear) after each time she goes out? Flip flops may be the easiest footwear she has in terms of cleaning. Molded one-piece rubber boots would probably be safer and more comfortable (from a biking and a weather perspective), but she may not have any.

I'm not in the UK, but I see people here wearing those old-fashioned very thin rubber outerboots that kind of roll on over your regular footwear. Also a lot of people wearing the kind of latex gloves that are marketed for household cleaning - lots of florescent yellow, blue, pink, and green fingers around here!

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 29/03/2020 14:20

I bet MNHQ are now sitting think how tame the ‘trans’ arguments were on FWR, compared to the COVID19 verbal lashings, they’re seeing now. 😁

Italiangreyhound · 29/03/2020 14:26

I do wish people would stop being judgmental on here about other people's posts. It is so unnecessary!

Ooopse!

If you are finding this thread distressing, please do your self a favour and stop posting - you are only bumping it further up.

And I think anyone who overlooks a field is perfectly entitled to look out of the window!

Stay safe and don't forget it's only mumsnet!

Italiangreyhound · 29/03/2020 14:27

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily yes indeed. Flowers

Deathraystare · 29/03/2020 14:27

I was queuing outside our local little Sainsbury's and it was amazing how many people went past and looked at us in amazement. "Oh there are queues!" What rock have these people been under!!! I rarely watch the news (since Brexit) but even I have seen the advice on the 2 metre rule. Plus there is the Tesco advert where it advises you to keep your distance!!

DishingOutDone · 29/03/2020 14:29

OP MN says you mustn't look out of our window, unless its to criticise a dog walker (without a mask).

JunkshopLil · 29/03/2020 14:29

I'm one of those who has taken my old bike out of retirement and use it each day during this for my exercise.

The reason for this is I can cover more ground than walking so can vary the route from my house a little bit each day. Also there are so many people about with dogs off the lead that come bounding up to me, on the assumption that everyone is a dog lover. I'm not particularly, which is why I don't have one. When I'm on a bike the dogs just ignore me.

Likewise some runners who expect you as a mere walker to get out of their way rather than them run round you. I found that walking around where I live was like roller derby trying to dogde the dogs and runners and keep the required distance, but on my bike I can just whizz on by.

I probably look ridiculous but I don't care. I've got as much right to exercise as anyone else.

EmmaBridgewater20 · 29/03/2020 14:33

@1forsorrow I’ve worked in the retail sector nearly all my working life until recently, worked for one of Asda’s biggest dairy suppliers for 3 year's - so yes I know quite a lot about their core customer base behaviour, as I do for other supermarkets.

Don’t worry you’ll be able to resume your free day out trailing your poor kids around Asda again soon 👍🏻

Belledan1 · 29/03/2020 14:46

I have started walking each day. Normally i walk 40 mins a day walking to and from station to work so want to keep it up. Also wfh in laptop all day and helps with headaches.

ElsieMc · 29/03/2020 14:50

Local paper yesterday featured a girl on the local canal riding on an inflatable pink flamingo. Local police fined two men one of whom had used a local car handwash, told an officer to Do One and then admit he was meeting a mate to walk their dogs to a local beauty spot.

Where I live I am seeing people in caravans/mobile homes still driving down to park up. Lots of families on a local beach walking dogs, kids etc. Last week there were loads of people parked up very closely and queueing for the ice cream van who were handling cash. People defended their right to "treats". Make your own mind up folks.

Biancadelrioisback · 29/03/2020 14:55

Between this thread mocking people for exercising and the other thread mocking people for trying to bake or try growing veg....what exactly can we do during lockdown?
