So... they've had a week or two to think about it, what is your nursery or childminder doing about fees? bearing in mind minimal variable costs and 80% salary relief.

They can't apply for the 80% until June, you realise that right?

MerryDeath · 28/03/2020 18:03

i don't know the details, no.

that's helpful. you can always share your education. I'm here listening. my actual question though was what is your childcare doing about fees.

Our nursery has a 20% retaining fee which will be taken off fees when they reopen. Pleasantly surprised and was more than prepared to pay full price, but I’m still being paid 🤷🏻‍♀️

somegoodnewsforonce · 28/03/2020 18:12

My nursery told us we didn't have to pay fees which I was actually surprised by. I wouldn't have minded paying.

JagerPlease · 28/03/2020 18:13

Mine is not refunding for March, but only charging going forwards for children of key workers that are still going in

Our nursery isn't charging fees if your child isn't going in. We've already paid April's as we.ay a.month in advance but it just sits on his account till they re-open

RubyMonster · 28/03/2020 18:17

I am a childminder. I’ve had to close for 12 weeks as I have an underlying condition. I had to refund the parents who had already paid until end of March. It’s in my contracts that I don’t charge if I’m closed so I won’t be.

Some parents who are more comfortable financially have refused this months refund.
I won’t be charging for next month. I can’t get through to claim universal credit and the 80% is great but not until June.

I’m still had to pay my Ofsted fee, PACEY membership and insurance as it was due this month. Plus other monthly charges for services I use for work and can’t cancel.

I’m skint.

have you taken your exercise today @Wewearpinkonwednesdays ... it benefits the mind not just the body

somegoodnewsforonce · 28/03/2020 18:19

@RubyMonster have you tried making your UC claim online

hibbledobble · 28/03/2020 18:21

Locally, my nursery is only charging key workers who make use of their provision. It's council run, so I imagine the council will underwrite the loss.

Fyi business rates are a huge expense and need to be paid regardless.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 28/03/2020 18:21

@MerryDeath you should try it.

MerryDeath · 28/03/2020 18:21

sorry to hear @RubyMonster. it's a very difficult situation. i hope the govt relief can be applied to you.

squirrelnutbum · 28/03/2020 18:27

@Wewearpinkonwednesdays is wrong. Provided they employ people (which I expect) they should be able to claim under the furlough rules shortly. The June date is for self employed.

Our haven't refunded March but aren't charging for April. I would have been OK paying.

MerryDeath · 28/03/2020 18:29

@squirrelnutbum @Wewearpinkonwednesdays 🙊

Hg30 · 28/03/2020 18:32

@Wewearpinkonwednesdays is just bloody rude.

Our nursery isn't charging us if our children aren't going in, was quite surprised as would have been happy to pay or a contribution at least.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 28/03/2020 18:37

@squirrelnutbum childminders are self employed and don't tend to employ anyone.

MerryDeath · 28/03/2020 18:38

thanks everyone. that's really interesting. first of all ours was saying no charge as per contract. then that full fees were due or we'd lose DS place. then govt started being surprisingly generous for a tory govt i thought ok another message with a reduction must be forthcoming but nothing hath came. so it's not unreasonable to find this a bit off?? DH is going to call the owner but i'd like to be armed with the fuller picture of what the industry is doing!

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 28/03/2020 18:39

Pretty sure @MerryDeath asked about childminders in the op, so no not wrong 🙊

Healthyandhappy · 28/03/2020 18:39

I was given 2 options may 50 percent and keep place or end contract and she will message when she re opens may lose place however I wont x

MerryDeath · 28/03/2020 18:39

@Hg30 exactly as i do want DS to have a nursery to go back to! but 100% seems iffy

OP posts:
Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 28/03/2020 18:41

Oh and @ing me is pointless, I won't get notifications.

MerryDeath · 28/03/2020 18:42

@Wewearpinkonwednesdays i asked what your paid childcare is doing about fees. if you want to be picky, you should answer the question yourself, ?. if not... find another thread.
