MNHQ Edited to add: the link is to a story regarding a child murder

Aibuto think that without covid19 this would be a MASSIVE story? It seems to have barely had coverage. Not even seen threads on here, have I just missed them?!

Poor child and her poor family :(

Oh my that’s horrific. I hadn’t heard anything about it. The poor wee girl and her poor family

x2boys · 28/03/2020 13:33

I know it's a shocking story ,I'm local and tbh even though the local paper the Bolton news has covered it not as much as I would normally expect ,tragic story.

nitgel · 28/03/2020 13:33

I read thus yesterday and wondered why it wasn't reported more widely. Its horrific

Freddiefox · 28/03/2020 13:36

I’ve read this story and heard it on the news, I think it so sad and traumatic. It’s almost too much too bare. Poor child and family.

gobbynorthernbird · 28/03/2020 13:38

The woman who killed Emily was immediately arrested and has been sectioned. That's why it isn't a massive story. To make a big deal out of it would be ghoulish, IMO.

Thickmuthafuckers · 28/03/2020 13:39

I’m local but there’s been no press about it. It’s beyond tragic, that poor little girl and her poor parents how would you ever get over that

ReceiptsAreSweet · 28/03/2020 13:40

That is a good point @gobbynorthernbird .

SorrelBlackbeak · 28/03/2020 13:41

It was headline news in the national press last weekend when it happened.

It was the second story in the main BBC page, the Times and the Guardian last Sunday so it was a pretty big thing a week ago.

SpratsOnParade · 28/03/2020 13:41

It was headline news on the BBC site when it happened and other sites. There were also a few threads on here about it.

QueenArseClangers · 28/03/2020 13:42

@x2boys The BN haven’t had as much coverage as they used to due to getting rid of shit loads of editorial staff. Majority of the staff left haven’t been happy for years and redundancies are frequent (from sad personal experience Sad)

triedandtestedteacher · 28/03/2020 13:49

I'd heard about it and thought how terrible it was. Even though it's horrific there's not much more to say. The woman was clearly out of her mind and this poor child was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's tragic. God help her family.

PianoTuner567 · 28/03/2020 13:53

How would you ever get over something like that? The total randomness of it - 5 mins earlier/later, different park, different day....it would drive you insane.

Scruffyoak · 28/03/2020 13:55

Horrific

HeadSpin5 · 28/03/2020 13:58

It’s just awful. I have one 7year old DD and the pain her poor family must be going through is indescribable.

TSSDNCOP · 28/03/2020 14:03

I read about this when it happened. I don't think I would be able to read more about it even if were in every news outlet. It's horrific and I simply cannot imagine the pain her parents are in, which will be made even worse trying to arrange a funeral at the moment. Truly awful.

Vaginandtonic · 28/03/2020 14:06

Jesus, I had not seen this story before either. Poor child and her poor parents. Fuck Sad

Forza14 · 28/03/2020 14:10

Awful - but it has been a big story.

They caught the person who did it almost immediately so there’s a limit to what the newspapers can report.

Dahlietta · 28/03/2020 14:32

I also saw it pretty prominently on the National news sites.

Darbs76 · 28/03/2020 14:37

It was in the press last weekend but it would have definitely been bigger news had it not been for COVID-19. So sad, my heart goes out to her family. Probably a blessing for the parents the media aren’t hounding them

GabsAlot · 28/03/2020 14:48

was all over news last weekend and then i heard she is being detained under the mental health act

maddening · 28/03/2020 14:55

Every time I read or think about this I feel sick to the pit of my stomach, it is truly horrific. Poor Emily and her poor parents - it is unthinkable.

My questions go to how the woman that did it came to be there to do that, I do think this should be understood.

agirlfrommars · 28/03/2020 15:24

@PianoTuner567 yeah that’s what gets to me, the whole wrong place/wrong time scenario- when you think just how incredibly unfortunate that family were to be there at that time, all the little decisions they made that day leading up to being there at that very moment. Truly horrific.

gypsywater · 28/03/2020 15:27

Why does it need to be in the news?
The perpetrator has been found.
Ongoing threat is zero.
Let the family grieve in private.

Outtedagain · 28/03/2020 15:32

It was widely reported, press releases by a couple of sources. It is however truly horrifying.

GrumpyHoonMain · 28/03/2020 15:39

Where I grew up drug addicts and the mentally ill would go into playgrounds and stab kids with glass / used needles etc and this was thirty odd years ago. I was so sad reading this story because it’s like nothing has changed. We need better MH services in this country - I am sure when she is properly treated even the attacker will deeply regret her actions.
