...and it comes in the form of 8D music.

A friend sent DH an 8D audio clip this evening. Apparently the technology has been around a couple of years but I’d never heard of it. And now we’ve totally fallen down the rabbit hole and spent the last few hours ignoring each other sitting side by side on the sofa with our earphones in, listening to our favourite songs like we’re hearing them for the first time. I’ve linked a few of my favourites below but all you need to do is go on YouTube and search for 8D music, pop your earphones in/headphones on, shut your eyes and forget about the world and all its troubles.

Thank me later.

YOU WILL NEED TO USE EARPHONES OR HEADPHONES

@EnidFromGuernsey not just you.

Placemarking for tomorrow when I've got my ear phones

Thanks OP! DH is sitting opposite me with earphones in - just asked him about them and they're fancy noise cancelling bluetooth ones he's had over a year that I never knew about! Have shared this with him. Assume it'll sound like music used to sound when I was a teenager, lying on the floor with my head between the speakers listening to vinyl Grin

MyDcAreMarvel · 27/03/2020 23:31

Thank you op

YouTheCat · 27/03/2020 23:36

Amazing!

AngeloMysterioso · 27/03/2020 23:41

DonttouchthatLarry for sure it sounds better when you have halfway decent earphones, like all music really. The bassier the better in my opinion! But then I like my bass to have plenty of balls.

There are definitely different levels of quality between some of the songs- the really good ones transmit the audio around quite evenly, whereas the more amateurish ones just swing from left to right and back which is when you get the seasick feeling.

This isn’t musical but shows what the technology can do. It’s so impressive.

@AngeloMysterioso

I also love to have plenty of balls.

BestZebbie · 28/03/2020 00:02

I agree - the Lion King was excellent, especially with the animal sounds, but Bohemian Rhapsody just sounded as if the whole band was sliding from side to side and made me feel a bit seasick.

cinnabarmoth · 28/03/2020 01:35

That barbershop audio was amazing, but most of the songs I have listened to so far just have the side to side effect for me. It seems better when the l-r movement is slower, less distracting. Not convinced by it for music, but how brilliant would radio plays sound?

LR33 · 28/03/2020 01:58

Thanks OP!
First time I had heard of this, and will definitely keep me busy whilst insomnia strikes

TheMemoryLingers · 28/03/2020 02:13

A couple of these were very good - but having explored a few on YouTube, alas, many of them have the same effect as turning the 'balance' knob back and forth on a 1984 Amstrad 'music centre', which was marginally less exciting than pressing the button that made the record player drawer slide in and out.

Hopefully technology will improve.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 28/03/2020 03:10

Fireflies was definitely my favourite

Lostatsea1988 · 28/03/2020 05:00

OP THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

I just listened to this (Post Malone - Sunflower) and it made me cry tears of joy. It's good to let it out, isn't it?

Love to all

daffodil1224 · 28/03/2020 06:29

I don't have any earphones. So wish I did as this looks amazing

Leosnewmummy · 28/03/2020 09:07

Thanks OP this is wonderful Star

Fairywater · 28/03/2020 09:39

Any recommendations for 8d classical music?

zara020 · 28/03/2020 10:47

Thank you for this OP. I just listened to the Circle of Life while putting the washing on the line and cried 2 weeks worth of pent up emotion. Amazing sound. XDaffodil

MrEzraGoldberg · 28/03/2020 11:00

I can't tell the difference between this and how the songs usually sound, except that yes, it sounds like the singer is moving around a bit, maybe rearranging the sofa as they sing, or maybe dusting.

Flavabobble · 28/03/2020 11:28

I feel the same way as enidfromguernsey, it makes me feel slightly nauseous.

Plus it's incredibly annoying.

It does put me in mind of the late seventies when my brother bought himself a sound system and we'd spend hours arranging the speakers to get the full stereo experience. He regretted that when I kept finding tracks with the vocals on one side, turn that channel down and have my own early version of karaoke.

But no, don't like the 8d experience at all.

Ok, just tried this, laid on the bed, eyes shut, it's beautiful. Did make me feel a bit dizzy though at points.

agirlfrommars · 28/03/2020 15:26

Some of them are better than others. Listened to fireflies and pumped up kicks and thoroughly enjoyed both. Was like I wasn’t wearing headphones but listening to it on loudspeaker in an empty supermarket!

Bufferingkisses · 28/03/2020 15:58

I've just found a couple of Metallica songs which were really effective - their more gentle ones!

WhoWants2Know · 28/03/2020 16:16

After The Virtual Barbershop, I followed a link to one called The Tucker Zone 😮.

I nearly fell off the sofa.

MrsExpo · 28/03/2020 16:44

Oh wow .... thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. Brilliant. Might have to —steal— borrow DH’s headphones to get the full effect.
