Apologies that this is in the wrong section, but could affect some who have it hidden.... sainsburys delivery slots and vulnerable customers.

Again, apologies that this isn’t in the section intended esp as I am one who has agreed several times that threads need to specifically be directed there. But I also realise that there may be some who have it hidden who have registered as vulnerable on the supermarket delivery sites to obtain priority.

Sainsburys have now changed their policy, and only those customers who have received a letter or text from the NHS will be prioritised for delivery.

You can register on the .gov website but your registration will only be accepted if you have one of the conditions mentioned and they require your NHS number so there is no way around this.

Furthermore, if you have previously registered with sainsburys as a vulnerable customer due to age, or disability or another underlying condition, this vulnerability has now been removed and you will no longer be entitled to priority delivery slots.

As I said, apologies that this is not in the specific section...

Hi
I've tried to find this on the website but I can't see it. Is there any chance you could copy the link?
Sorry to be a pain!

ElizabethMainwaring · 26/03/2020 09:46

I don't know about this in relation to Sainsbury's, but there is a government website to register as vulnerable.
Sorry, can't do links, I just googled 'register as vulnerable'.

AlternativePerspective · 26/03/2020 09:51

The sainsburys link is here:

www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/delivery-prioritisation

It states specifically that they will be taking the data from the .gov website and will then inform people that they have been added.

The link to register on the .gov website is at the bottom of the sainsburys page but you have to register under one of the conditions listed or it will tell you you’re not eligible.

What happens with disabled people who can’t get out to the shops for food but don’t have an at risk condition?

plymouthmaid · 26/03/2020 09:53

Thank you!

Littlemissdaredevil · 26/03/2020 09:57

I’ve just had an email from Sainsburys telling me that they have identified me as a vulnerable customer this morning.

AlternativePerspective · 26/03/2020 09:57

@ Whatsmyname26 they have to just take their chances with everyone else.

It’s worth keeping a constant eye on the supermarkets as slots do become available but they’re few and far between.

OP posts:
clareOclareO · 26/03/2020 10:00

Genius. We all need to stay at home so the supermarkets decide to refuse to deliver to the overwhelming majority of the population. What idiot comes up with these ideas?

The most vulnerable cannot go out but none of us should be going out for non-essential purposes. If we cannot have home delivery suddenly millions more journeys will need to be made.

AlternativePerspective · 26/03/2020 10:00

I have called them out on it on twitter. I know they have to have a cut-off somewhere but they should have had that from the start not moved the goalposts down the line.

I have a disability as well as a serious heart condition but because I am pre transplant. Don’t qualify. Someone very helpfully told me that I just need to accept that I won’t be the only one who is going to die because healthy people will be dying too.

It takes a certain kind of person to actually put that down in writing....

delivery saver customers get second priority, and obviously last priority for slots is 'anyone else' it's not that there's no deliveries at all to anyone else

JemimaPuddleCat · 26/03/2020 10:08

England only 🙄

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 26/03/2020 10:15

There's people with severe cerebral palsy who cannot get out normally who aren't on the list. And motor neurone disease.

I'm on extremely vulnerable list and feel guilty for it as I can walk, but still don't want to take my chances..it's like a macabre competition off vulnerability.

I've registered with sainsburys but still get the 'fuck off'screen.

I wish I hadn't got the text and letter. It's just a wind up with no support.

You are meant to 'avoid children'. I'm a mum of four...

SerendipityJane · 26/03/2020 10:46

What happens with disabled people who can’t get out to the shops for food but don’t have an at risk condition?

What do you think ?

Don't worry, they're well used to it. It would take more than a mere virus flap to shift the UKs entrenched attitude to the disabled.

ShellsAndSunrises · 26/03/2020 10:51

Sainsbury’s have agreed to prioritise deliveries to the vulnerable (as listed by the Government)... Ocado, Tesco etc are supposed to be able to cover everyone else. Although that doesn’t seem to be working...

Batqueen · 26/03/2020 10:57

OP can you get the Morrison’s essentials box delivered? www.morrisons.com/food-boxes/

VivaLeBeaver · 26/03/2020 11:00

can someone link to the .gov website page pls

WelcomeToShootingStars · 26/03/2020 11:02

Not everybody on the severe risk list will want deliveries from Sainsburys, and I bet a lot of people who've registered as vulnerable don't use them either.

It's absolutely right that those who are not allowed to leave their home for any reason are prioritised over those who are choosing not to, rather than observe the rules for social distancing.

SerendipityJane · 26/03/2020 11:05

It's absolutely right that those who are not allowed to leave their home for any reason are prioritised over those who are choosing not to, rather than observe the rules for social distancing.

How about those that cannot leave their home. Even if they were "allowed" to ? Forget about them, eh ?

Mazarinegreen · 26/03/2020 11:08

We were told a couple of days ago that we were on the vulnerable list - when I clicked on the link they sent I got a message that we weren't so v confused! Have registered on the gov.uk website (DH on certain immunosuppressent therapy but has not got his letter yet) but not heard anything and I can't get through on the phones..looks like the goalposts changed yesterday. We also have had a delivery pass for them anyway for the last year and I'm hoping they do some sort of refund if we can't use it.

1forsorrow · 26/03/2020 11:10

No Morrisons box deliveries available, I've been checking for 2 days. My husband is mid 70s with diabetes, will he qualify? We were on the list but have been kicked off. The govt need to sort something out.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 26/03/2020 11:12

I think I'll just give up and declare that porridge with UHT is on the menu for the

It seems that food delivery logistics was not planned for in the pandemic planning and they are making it up as they go along. It matters a lot as people will break the rules to get food if it is not possible to get it delivered.

sadforthekoalas · 26/03/2020 11:23

Think all the supermarkets are handling this badly. There is only one supermarket who delivers to my parents village and they have done nothing so far to prioritise their delivery and click and collect customers...other than to say oh would you mind shopping in store if you can, thanks awfully.

I'm hoping that they are just trying to sort out the first group ie the ones with a letter) and then will do something to help the next group - the ones who are elderly/disabled/vulnerable. I don't mind my parents slot going to someone having chemo but I do mind it going to the family of six who have a 4x4 and a big freezer.

Skybluepink123 · 26/03/2020 11:23

That’s absolutely disgusting. My elderly, disabled mum now won’t be able to get any food or essentials. I thought it was too good to be true for her when sainsburys emailed her to say that she could have a 1 hour delivery slot each week because their records showed she was disabled. Now suddenly that’s swept from under her with no thought for how she’s going to cope. It’s disgraceful. We’re all self-isolating for 14 days as dd not well so I can’t get her any shopping. The elderly and vulnerable are being treated appallingly.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 26/03/2020 11:26

This means that priority slots will be given to the most vulnerable (as they should be). It doesn't mean that people who aren't on the Govt list won't get deliveries. Sainsbury's specifically says they have already identified some as vulnerable from their records.

So,

  1. The 'most vulnerable' on the govt list take priority over everyone else.
  2. Those Sainsbury's have identified as 'vulnerable' from their records are next in line.
  3. Other registered customers come about the above if there are any slots left.

Sounds good to me.
