Apologies that this is in the wrong section, but could affect some who have it hidden.... sainsburys delivery slots and vulnerable customers.

Again, apologies that this isn’t in the section intended esp as I am one who has agreed several times that threads need to specifically be directed there. But I also realise that there may be some who have it hidden who have registered as vulnerable on the supermarket delivery sites to obtain priority.

Sainsburys have now changed their policy, and only those customers who have received a letter or text from the NHS will be prioritised for delivery.

You can register on the .gov website but your registration will only be accepted if you have one of the conditions mentioned and they require your NHS number so there is no way around this.

Furthermore, if you have previously registered with sainsburys as a vulnerable customer due to age, or disability or another underlying condition, this vulnerability has now been removed and you will no longer be entitled to priority delivery slots.

As I said, apologies that this is not in the specific section...

We don't qualify, husband mid 70s with diabetes and mobility issues, I'm late 60s and trying to self isolate so he doesn't catch anything from me. Family 200 miles away. Neighbours as vulnerable as we are. How are we supposed to manage? I haven't been out since last Saturday but can't last 12 weeks.

SerendipityJane · 26/03/2020 11:33

So,1) The 'most vulnerable' on the govt list take priority over everyone else. 2) Those Sainsbury's have identified as 'vulnerable' from their records are next in line. 3) Other registered customers come about the above if there are any slots left.Sounds good to me.

That's because you aren't disabled and don't match one of those 3, so face not getting a delivery. But, as long as it sounds good, eh ? Doesn't have to be good - heavens forfend !

It's just a sad fact of a lot of peoples lives that the able bodied first thought is always "Well I could do that.". Hence the stupid steps, bumps and other barriers to accessibility that still litter our world.

Still could be worse, I guess.

But there aren't any slots, well not where I live, coastal town with populations of elderly locally known as God's waiting room. Maybe it is different in other areas but I can't get anything for the next 3 weeks, I did get a slot with Sainsburys but have now been kicked off as we aren't vulnerable enough.

1forsorrow · 26/03/2020 11:37

I'm pretty sure my husband will die if he gets it. He was injured, uniformed services, and has been disabled for over 30 years so his fitness and health is poor for a person of his age plus his diabetes. If I go out and get it he will get it so how vulnerable do you have to be?

FuzzyLegs · 26/03/2020 11:42

I always get my shopping delivered anyway as I have mobility issues and pick up illnesses easily so avoid supermarkets in general. Has been this way for me for years. I have a few of the vulnerable conditions, but not an extremely vulnerable one.

I am hoping I can rely on local volunteers to bring me food when I get low. I don't think any of the supermarkets including the one's I have delivery passes with are able to help.

FromTheAllotment · 26/03/2020 11:52

Hmm I was aiming to ring up Sainsbury’s today to see if we can get a delivery as my DS has cv19 symptoms. Sounds like my chances are minimal.

LastTrainEast · 26/03/2020 12:08

Some are saying that it's not JUST those on the list, but the site seems to say otherwise. It doesn't say "we don't have any spare slots right now" it says I'm not vulnerable.

And how could they give some out to people not on the list anyway? What happens if they do and then someone ON the list turns up.

Are you hard of understanding? No need to have a go at me. I am saying that it is good that sainsbury's are prioritisng the most vulnerable first and then the vulnerable over everyone else. I'm on the side of the disabled/less able, ffs.

To spell it out:
I think the most vulnerable should get priority over everyone else at every supermarket.

Then the vulnerable should come next and get priority over anyone who is not vulnerable at every supermarket.

The rest of us either take our chances to see if there are any slots left or physically go to the supermarket, as infrequently as possible, as long as we have no-one with CV symptoms in our households.

Have a go at people who couldn't care less about the vulnerable members of society. I care a great deal.

LizzieMacQueen · 26/03/2020 12:20

Is this England only? The link, I believe, is to PHE.

Danglingmod · 26/03/2020 12:23

Dh is classed as most vulnerable but the Sainsbury's shopping account is in my name... Not sure they will or can link us up??

AlternativePerspective · 26/03/2020 13:10

@ NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite no, if you aren’t on the NHS priority list then you don’t get priority, even if you’ve previously been identified as vulnerable. anyone who was previously showing as vulnerable has now had that status removed.

While i can see some logic to saying that the most vulnerable should take priority, the problem is that Sainsburys initially said that people who were elderly and/or had disabilities would be prioritised and that you could ring this helpline to be registered if you hadn’t already been identified as such.

Following that statement they have now moved the goalposts and essentially said that no sorry, you won’t be prioritised after all.

If they’d been up-front from the outset then while it would have been irritating you could at least know where you stood.

Now people have been given false reassurance only to have that taken away from them, but they won’t know that until the next time they log in and try to book a delivery slot in the belief that they are a priority.

It’s incredibly bad form on the part of Sainsburys.

@AlternatePerspective - exactly! If we had known we could have at least tried to get alternative delivery from elsewhere, rather than be let down a few days later when all other places are booked up...

suitcaseofdreams · 26/03/2020 18:33

@alternativePerspective - according to Sainsbury’s reply to me on Twitter today if you have previously been identified by them as vulnerable and had a delivery already you will be invited to schedule another one next week (even if you are not at high risk and registered on the gov.uk site). In the meantime your ‘status’ will show as not qualifying because you only get one slot per week
We shall see if this is true next week when we either do or don’t get an email to say slots are available again....
