To think that there may be some people whose lives could be better because they can't access the things that are bad for them? e.g. Gamblers in the high street shops. Are people still using prostitutes? Can you think of any benefits of this situation?

No

Jillyhilly · 25/03/2020 22:38

I’m hoping it’ll bring about an end to identity politics and obsessing about one’s pronouns by clarifying what a real problem looks like?

Leaannb · 25/03/2020 22:38

Not a one

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/03/2020 22:38

More time together as a family.
No eating out (so less spend, less calories usually).
More one to one time with the kids.
My house is cleaner.
My car is cleaner.
My petrol is lasting longer.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 25/03/2020 22:40

No more space invaders in queues

Privacy for women in postnatal wards for the time being - how many threads do we see by women who are recovering from childbirth and they have a room full of inconsiderate arseholes to contend with!

People expecting balliffs and high court sheriffs - I don't know for certain but I imagine that ther won't be working now

Welshmaenad · 25/03/2020 22:43

I'm trying really hard to be positive too OP!

WFH (I'm a key worker but immunosuppressed so they're keeping me home as much as possible) means I've more time to cook from scratch, and I'm focusing on making really lovely healthy meals for my kids/partner. I realise I'm lucky to have been able to get fresh veggies and fruit and preciously had a well stocked store cupboard and freezer to be able to do it. Have been less able to get vegan meat replacements etc so focusing on veggies, grains and pulses and we are eating really well.

It has also made me realise that I'm very lucky to have two lovely, motivated and resilient kids. Entertaining themselves whilst I work, doing school work, hunting out their own extra resources, not a whinge from either.

No. There’s fuck all good about Masses of

people Dying and is being on lockdown with no end in sight

WarmSausageTea · 25/03/2020 22:45

Apparently, the gambling is situation is potentially worse, in that ordinarily, sport is the basis for most bets, and in its absence, gamblers are seemingly being pushed toward riskier wagers.

Covid has turned my life upside down already (even though it’s the calm before the storm).

The things it has made me appreciate:

  • how hard my DH is working and his selfless commitment to the NHS.
  • How lucky I am to not have a chronic health condition
  • How much I love my job (also NHS) and miss my colleagues and patients.
  • How fucking simply life now seems before covid-19.

You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.

MadamFlutterby · 25/03/2020 22:47

Huge taxes for all when we get thru this

Sorry

On a positive note we pull together and we see the best of humanity

HeIenaDove · 25/03/2020 22:50

There are none

Though it has occurred to me that SOME men will have to lower their expectations of the way they expect women to look now the salons are closed!

Igotthemheavyboobs · 25/03/2020 22:53

Bloody hell, it's depressing this is even still a thought.

Poor DP really did not hit the jackpot for stuff like this! I've not been in a salon since October 2018. That was my last haircut Grin

Frozenfan2019 · 25/03/2020 22:55

The environment is benefitting as there is far less pollution.

Your examples aren't really positives though. The gambler may well develop an online habit which he/she will have less control over. The prostitutes will also be destitute if they have no clients.

I’ve realised who the arseholes are that I know.

That’s about it.

PinkiOcelot · 25/03/2020 22:58

No. Nothing positive at all to thousands of deaths.

tinyme77 · 25/03/2020 23:11

Sorry if I offended anyone. I was just looking for something positive.

  • I feel really appreciated by the public for my work (nursing)
  • My lovely dog has more company during the day when partner is WFH
  • I am able to indulge in my solitary interests (embroidery, tv, reading, colouring, cooking) without any guilt or fear of missing out on days off
  • Increased community cooperation - I’ve seen so many people offering help like getting groceries, cooking etc for vulnerable people and actually following through with it
Antipodeancousin · 25/03/2020 23:17

I think it’s a nice idea OP. I think if you genuinely cannot see any positives, however small they may be amongst the overwhelming horror of the situation you probably have clinical depression.
Noting a few little positives doesn’t detract from the suffering of others.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 25/03/2020 23:31

I also think it's a nice idea OP. It never does hurt to find that silver lining.

fizzybootlace · 25/03/2020 23:46

Of course nothing can outweigh the seriousness of the situation but it's important to see positives. Things I have enjoyed just today:

Not rushing out the door in the morning, time in the garden during the lovely weather, picking up on old craft projects and books, making random meals just to save on waste, no-one "popping in" or asking what you are doing today, no expectations to visit family in person (calls and messaging is having to suffice), chatting over the fence with elderly neighbours at distance, the quietness of the roads when having a walk, less pollution, less (no) make up and hair straightening, don't care about my roots (yet), dogs on leads, checking in on people you haven't seen for a while just to say "hi" knowing you don't have to make any actual plans anytime soon... I could go on!!

You can probably tell I'm not a big going out person, extremely lucky to have a lovely little home so doing ok so far and hope everyone else is too.

justcly · 25/03/2020 23:50

I have MS so life is pretty scary right now. Difficulties getting groceries, and when we can there is always some essential missing. And I am worried about what the aftermath of all this will be.

On the other hand, my five year old DS, who is autistic and has thus far never shown any indication that he even regards me as human, gave me a huge hug this morning and said "don't worry about corny biros mummy, I'll look after you."

I've been smiling all day, sentimental twonk that I am.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 25/03/2020 23:51

I'm hoping that the way that people use social media will change.
Less of 'isn't my life so wonderful (but actually it's fake & I'm just bigging myself up to feel better & the attention gives me a high) shit and more congruent, genuine, authentic, kind posting & interaction.
Basically being honest & realising that if you wouldn't do or say it in real life that you shouldn't do it virtually.
I really hope the way people use social media changes for the best permanently in order to protect peoples (especially the younger generations) mental health.

n00bMaster69 · 25/03/2020 23:52

Why would corona stop men seeing prostitutes? They already don't care about the risk of STDs and HIV .

userxx · 25/03/2020 23:54

The gambler may well develop an online habit which he/she will have less control over.

I've noticed loads of adverts tonight for online gambling Tough times can trigger addictions, they know this though 😡

userxx · 25/03/2020 23:55

Why would corona stop men seeing prostitutes

Maybe because they can't get out of the house 🤷‍♂️
