To think that there may be some people whose lives could be better because they can't access the things that are bad for them? e.g. Gamblers in the high street shops. Are people still using prostitutes? Can you think of any benefits of this situation?

Also this will hopefully drive more buy local initiatives more support for local businesses and better animal rights if we breed and farm locally and stop importing meat and eggs.

My children might get sick of their devices.

SudokuQueen · 26/03/2020 18:15

Well in reality, all of the environmentalists should be happy.

Always said that the only real solution to save the planet is a massive cull of people. We are the problem. Never going to save the planet without a mass cull.

It's not a great solution or a nice one. But you'll never resolve it by the population increasing constantly and barely anyone giving a shit.

Shame we can't target certain people with it though, like the moron that was on BBC radio one tonight. He's still going out, meeting up with friends, every night. He doesn't care. That's a life that we don't really need.

ThrowingGoodAfterBad · 26/03/2020 18:27

Definitely environmental benefits. The air is clearing nicely, it smells wonderful. I hope that that might help asthma sufferers and give them a needed edge.

I also hope that insects will benefit, having just seen that insects are dying out faster than larger animals. I wish that people might recognise and remember the improvements, and wish them to continue. I could similarly wish that people remember and recognise the economic vulnerabilities rampant capitalism unchecked have created and want them to be checked again. I’m not very hopeful about either tbh - such resolutions have never lasted long in the past.

DorisDances · 26/03/2020 18:43

It is an horrendous situation. If pushed however, a little light relief is the respite from not having almost daily charity collection bags through the door

charlie745 · 26/03/2020 18:46

There's absolutely none, not one. My gosh what an utterly idiotic post!!

Geepipe · 26/03/2020 19:09

Charlie745 you are clearly absolutely wrong for many of the reasons stated. To point out the obvious positives does not negate the horribleness of the situation nor is this an idiotic post. Go back to your misery dwellings if you want to refuse to see any positivity because you are utterly wrong.

EyeSoLated · 26/03/2020 19:30

So many pessimistic people on this thread!

shinynewapple2020 · 26/03/2020 20:11

Well I'm terrified of catching it and have huge respect for all those who are out there working in NHS and shops .

I am feeling very grateful that I am able to work from home, aside from this keeping me safe it means my life is a lot more relaxed . I know this isn't the same for all people, colleagues attempting to WFH and mind young DC at the same time. But for me having no commute means I get a lie in and time to get a bit of cleaning done before I start work. No longer rushing out with the dog in the morning as we only get one walk so saving it for a more leisurely afternoon stroll. Cooking from scratch rather than ready meals as my family are all here to eat at the same time. Saving money as not going out anywhere , no new clothes, hair appointments. Life is a lot simpler (for me anyway)

And just been outside to clap NHS -
whole street was out all pulling together

tinyme77 · 26/03/2020 20:16

I am glad lots of people could find some positives. I have been enjoying spending more time with my children, not driving, spending less money, my daily walk and the community spirit. Keep safe.

sonjadog · 26/03/2020 20:36

I think there is a positive impact on the environment. I hope that less people will travel for work reasons afterwards as they will have discovered online meetings work perfectly well.

On a personal level, I am quite enjoying just being at home for a while with no appointments, clubs, meetings and events to go to. My pace of life has slowed down and for the moment, I like it.

charlie745 · 26/03/2020 20:44

@geepipe I think it's clear a lot of people who think there is any 'positive' at all to this don't work for the NHS or are key workers. I'm just baffled 🤦‍♀️ maybe if I could comfortably stay at home safe and have no financial worries I MIGHT be to see a tiny 'positive' but no. It's killing countless people, and will put people in serious financial difficulty, destroy peoples mental health and fuck the economy. I find this very insensitive and don't have the tolerance to read anymore.

sonjadog · 26/03/2020 20:55

So don´t read any more then. There is a positive for you. You don´t have to read any thread on MN that you don´t want to.

Geepipe · 26/03/2020 20:59

Dont bastard read it then. My family are all key workers and even they can see a lot of positives. Just because its a shitty situation for everyone. Ive lost my job so its not like i am sat at home with nothing to do i am looking at volunteering as is over 450000 others.

Zilla1 · 26/03/2020 22:27

Actually Charlie, you're wrong, you don't speak for everyone in the front line in the NHS, at least one can see there might be positives, even if the lack of PPE and the stats for impacts on otherwise healthy under-60 HCPS look terrible with HCPs ventilated/already passed. No one is suggesting they're happy, just that most things have costs and benefits.

Thismummyruns · 26/03/2020 23:11

The food banks at the end of all this will be inundated with goods, mainly from the guilty panic buyers who actually didn't use/need 20 tins of chopped tomatoes and pints upon pints of long life milk!
