to be genuinely concerned about the casual over-use of Zoflora?

I have never bought or used any kind of disinfectant before.

I have vague memories of Dettol disinfectant in the bottom of the vomit bucket when we were poorly kids, but other than that I can't remember it in my childhood home either.

I don't really know what you need to use it for!

Anyway, our local pound shop had some small Zoflora bottles in recently and I bought one on impulse having become aware due to Mumsnet and the weird devotion to Mrs Hinch.

Dh has been pretty sick and sweaty so I decided to boost my usual hot wash of his bedding and pillowcases with Zoflora. I pre-soaked the pillow cases in warm water, biological powder and less than half a small capful of Zoflora. Then I rinsed them thoroughly under the shower. Then I put them through a 2 hour hot wash in my washing machine which includes 3 rinses. Now they are hanging up to dry inside and they still absolutely reek of this bloody disinfectant! I don't have any chest or allergy issues but I can feel the smell catching in my throat.

Isn't it dangerous as fuck and only to be used in tiny amounts if you absolutely must in extreme circumstances? I don't think I'll be going anywhere near it again.

I've spent my whole life cleaning with soapy water and bleach down the toilet.

Have started to use zoflora due to CV because it says it kills 99.9% viruses. I struggle with the smell of any strong cleaner but find this slightly less irritating than bleach or Dettol spray.

I haven't bought in to the zoflora or mrs. Hinch fandom. I used to wash my floors back in 2007 or something but not really since. I only remember that as I was excessively cleanly in the home and it smelled nice, not do much now. Wouldn't ever put it in my washing machine though.

@blueshoes

I'm the same and I am immunocompromised! Confused

I use bleach for toilets/drains, and the odd spritz of bathroom cleaner (maybe a few times a year) but otherwise I just use a hot soapy cloth.

Despite having an impaired immune system I never really get colds etc and bar one bout of norovirus 3 years ago, I've never had food poisoning.

I think the effects of inhaling artificial sprays are worse than not sterilising kitchen surfaces etc. I dont use spray deodorants for that reason as well.

I've never used Zoflora, do have a bottle of own brand disinfectant which I use occasionally and, right now, a sanitiser spray. I do put bleach in the toilet sometimes as well as ordinary toilet cleaner.

I'd have thought putting bedclothes through a fairly hot wash cycle would be sufficient. If you soak them in disinfectant first it will wash out anyway. However I'm sorry you're left with a residual smell. Wash them again and you might get rid of it.

I remember it gave me a headache as a kid. Never sought it out as an adult.

I’m going to have to stop wearing Alien if there is a zoflora dupe of it, I don’t want to smell of disinfectant! One thing that has always puzzled me is most people on here can’t abide artificial or chemical smells and I think there must be something wrong with my nose because I can’t tell if a smell is ‘artificial’ I just know if I like it or not 🤷‍♀️
