To tell my neighbour to stop making a massive noise

Plancina · 25/03/2020 15:19

My next door neighbour has spent most of today and yesterday using a deafeningly loud chainsaw in his back garden, it is audible all through my house even with windows and doors shut and makes it impossible to sit outside as it is an excruciating noise. WIBU to ask him to stop it?

I can hear a chainsaw too...

Weird... we can’t be (distant) neighbours, can we 😂

RedHelenB · 25/03/2020 16:08

Yes you would.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 25/03/2020 16:08

Once he gets it done it'll be done. He's not doing anything illegal or antisocial and is probably taking advantage of the enforced time off work and the decent weather to get things done that he's been putting off for the last few months.

AutumnRose1 · 25/03/2020 16:10

Ask him to limit his time with it. It’s really unfair to him to be doing this.

bellabasset · 25/03/2020 16:12

I'll swop it for my neighbour's loud music! He's managed to really annoy someone else whose had words.

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 25/03/2020 16:15

I have both sides AND opposite using chainsaws at the moment. Wtf is it national stay at home and ise a chainsaw day today ? Confused

Ali85 · 25/03/2020 16:15

Our neighbour has been doing the same thing too! For the last 7 hours. Continuously. Just going on our 'daily exercise'. Might involve digging a large hole in his patio at this rate.

People need to be really considerate in this time. It is stressful enough trying to work and supervise children at the same time without 7 hours of headache inducing noise.

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 25/03/2020 16:17

Stop press the neighbour on the left is now mowing his lawn.

cocomelon23 · 25/03/2020 16:19

My neighbour is drilling something in his house very noisily. I'm trying to work from home and it's making it very difficult.

hellsbellsmelons · 25/03/2020 16:47

I'd probably politely ask him how long this is going to take.
So at least you can get ear plugs if need be!

Lsquiggles · 25/03/2020 16:53

My new next door neighbour has cut his 5ft x 5ft front garden 3 times today... How and why?! Hmm

drinkygin · 25/03/2020 16:53

No he’s not being unreasonable (unless he’s at it til midnight). Whatever he’s doing can’t take too long using a chainsaw (unless he has a forest in his garden that he’s chopping down?).

HeronLanyon · 25/03/2020 16:55

There’s quite a bit of sawing down fallen wood and unwanted furniture etc for firewood going on. Let’s hope your ndn is nearly done.

Troels · 25/03/2020 16:56

It's a mow day here on our street, I've heard mowers all day.
At least once he's cut up everything possible he'll stop with nothing left to chop. I hope

FlauntingLooRolls · 25/03/2020 17:01

He's being very inconsiderate. I stopped my DH using the pressure washer after 2 hours on Sunday. Everyone is confined to their home and these (usually) blokes have to get outside and make a noise without a thought for anyone else.

mumwon · 25/03/2020 17:03

thinks maybe its his dw/dp cutting him up prior to burying him under the patio - watch out we will be having a thread about this in a minute (unless its op digger VERY LARGE hole & requiring us as witnesses) -sorry I am developing a seriously warped sense of humour Grin have managed to sort out a really difficult benefit thing at distance for disabled dd at distance & the relief is enormous.

HelgaHere1 · 25/03/2020 17:04

Now is not the time to fall out with neighbours. As long as he isn't a chainsaw sculptor I'd let it go.

GinNotGym19 · 25/03/2020 17:20

Mines started a bonfire!

TwoZeroTwoZero · 25/03/2020 17:24

I must be strange because I like the sound of lawnmowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, saws and the like. These, along with the sounds of children playing and people with their music on, are sounds of summer and remind me of days spent at home doing tasks that you don't get time to do in winter or during the normal working week.

Don't fall out with your neighbours if you can avoid it; we all have to spend the next unknown amount of time cooped up at home with nothing much to do. We're all stressed and we're all worried about our health, jobs and livelihoods so tension between the neighbours is just going to end in disaster. Let it go.

just here checking its not me

eddiemairswife · 25/03/2020 17:42

In fine weather there is always someone somewhere making a noise. I think it's a male thing....they don't go hunting for food anymore, so they compensate by making loud noises.

FionaCorkesWardrobebyKamizole · 25/03/2020 17:44

How many of us clicked on this thread hoping it wasn't about them? My DC has just had the mother of all tantrums this afternoon over school work, the neighbours must hate us. I'd swap the howls of "it's so unfair" for the noise of a chain saw to be honest.

Namechange2020onceagain · 25/03/2020 17:56

YANBU OP, people should have some consideration for their neighbours.

First washing of the year out on the line, some MASSIVE BELLEND started a bonfire. What an absolute cunt. First day of lockdown when people are in their gardens and they decide now is a good time to smoke everyone indoors. Really questioning the brainpower in Britain at the moment. Angry

TerrorWig · 25/03/2020 18:09

Don’t be silly. Chainsaw usage isn’t never ending.
