"Throw it away" she said.
"If you need another one they are easily available at very little inconvenience" she said.

I write this after looking for the pop-up football goal.....

Sadly, not such a good idea in times of stockpiling. Hoarders go it right this time.

thereisfreedomwithin · 25/03/2020 12:16

Oh yes

"storage is for hoarders" she said.....

I'm pleased to have Kondo'd. The mess and clutter would drive me insane in an isolation.

And as they have closed the tips I couldn't even take the time now to declutter.

SpyApp · 25/03/2020 12:25

I folded my clothes like she said and I had to iron some of them again before I put them on. Slattern!

Doingtheboxerbeat · 25/03/2020 12:45

My friend has just had a massive clear out and now his partner has just been sent home from his call centre job to wfh - he has no work station. I told him to use the 80 billion loo rolls he purchased and a block of wood to make a desk Grin.

anappleadaykeeps · 25/03/2020 13:11

I am so glad I didn't throw away our lego.

safariboot · 25/03/2020 13:14

Indeed.

On the other hand when you have so much clutter you can't get to things, that's too much. (And is the position I'm in).

I'm glad I didn't do it, it'll give me something to do between yelling at DS that his schoolwork has still got to be done.

CheriLittlebottom · 25/03/2020 13:20

Yep, very glad right now to be able to have a dig in the cupboards / garage / loft and find "stuff".

DH actually did make a desk yesterday Grin using a couple of trestles and a bit of leftover kitchen worktop he'd shoved in the garage. Ta da, a workstation! No loo rolls involved, I promise.

Meruem · 25/03/2020 13:21

I have a lot of craft stuff I haven't got round to using as I never had time. Kondo would have had me throw it out! So glad I didn't.

Nettleskeins · 25/03/2020 13:23

It is.nice to.have all these books, that.last month were annoying me with their dust. And the bits of fabric, and even the clothes ill never wear.that.can now be cut up and creatively repurposed into rugs and tablemats. And as for garden clutter. Wonderful to have something to focus on. I shall be enjoying chopping up old.branches and fiddling with plastic pots/seeds from 2013.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 25/03/2020 13:23

It's a brilliant idea if you do it right. Not sure the idea is to get rid of stuff and need to replace it pretty much straight away.

It means you need to take one look to see what tools or essentials you are missing, and don't end up running around for duplicates you don't need.

Things put away keep better when stored away neatly.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 25/03/2020 13:25

I don’t regret it, everything is in order so it is nice and enjoyable to be at home. I still have not missed all the kitchen tatt I gave away and my child has not asked for the toys he has not played with for 3 years.

thereisfreedomwithin · 25/03/2020 13:26

"It's a brilliant idea if you do it right" and there's no pandemic.

fixed that for you :)

OP posts:
JustInCaseCakeHappens · 25/03/2020 13:36

why? There IS a pandemic, my house is clutter free, and I am not missing anything. It's not about getting rid of everything.

thereisfreedomwithin · 25/03/2020 13:52

do you not feel your needs have changed Justin?

I'm missing loads of stuff that I'd Kondoed!

ShellsAndSunrises · 25/03/2020 13:55

It seems really wasteful to encourage people to throw things away and re-buy if they need to. Especially if those people need whatever you encouraged them to throw away afterwards...

I hope this will kill off all the competitive Kondoing.

FaFoutis · 25/03/2020 13:55

YANBU
The stuff I thought might come in handy one day is coming in handy at last.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 25/03/2020 14:02

It depends... In our house I am the declutterer and DH is the hoarder. It's led to a good balance. The house is mostly tidy and uncluttered, which I'm feeling very grateful for now we're all at home, and I've been able to find all the stuff we need. But DH's hoarding of 'useful one day' stuff has meant that he is using his old monitor from 2006 that he'd been storing in the loft. Thus recreating his two monitor situation that he had in the office (engineer, now WFH)

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 25/03/2020 14:04

I'm extremely glad for my hoards of toys, educational games and craft resources right about now....the ones I intended to rationalise at some point but never got round to.

Meercat2 · 25/03/2020 14:04

I totally agree. I Kondoed most of our old games such as ludo etc. Had to order new games last week

KitKatKit · 25/03/2020 14:12

Kondo'd about 2 years ago. Best thing I did.
Haven't regretted it a single day, haven't bemoaned the lack of anything during the current climate, and best of all, I have a decent supply of the one thing that we all need because I spent 2019 low level prepping it; FOOD!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/03/2020 14:13

I did it a couple of years ago, and have stuck religiously to the folding. DP insisted we keep all the DVDs, despite me arguing we had seen them all, plus have Sky/Netflix, and they were stored away in a cupboard in the spare room. I am so glad we did keep them. I feel like I can’t concentrate on watching much just now, but it is really nice to put on an old favourite film. Just today I have put them in order of what we will watch - we’re going to watch all the Wes Anderson movies at the weekend.

I also came across the box set of This Life, which I had been dimly aware was being shown on BBC 4 lately. We’re going to watch one episode of that every night.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 25/03/2020 14:22

do you not feel your needs have changed Justin?

my current needs are fresh food and that I have to buy regularly anyway.

Apart from that, my house is as tidy as I am happy with - I hate mess, and I can't stand the idea of having to tidy up for visitors (even when we are unlikely to get surprise visitors these days)

We still have more books than we can read, games, wood in all shape (doors and part of furniture etc.) in one of the sheds... tools, most of the cardboard boxes from my last move properly stored away as they are always useful even to make things for kids.

There's no pile, no mess, no cluttered bookcase or drawers, I like my house. I can tell you where everything is when I need it too! I hate ornaments, I have pretty much none.

People do what they want in their own home, but the point is that KonMarie method is not to waste everything and having to buy everything again. Just get rid of crap.
