"Throw it away" she said.
"If you need another one they are easily available at very little inconvenience" she said.

I write this after looking for the pop-up football goal.....

I've not missed a single thing since I Kondo'd. In fact I'm taking this time to be even more ruthless with my tidying and discarding. Not food and medicines obviously.

flirtygirl · 25/03/2020 14:51

Kondoing is about getting rid of duplicates of useful things, not the actual useful things. It is a structure to clear clutter, not a reason to not apply common sense to your life and personal situation.

After duplicate useful items, clothes and the rest of personal clutter is about sparking joy, so if it didn't spark joy when you got rid of it, why would it suddenly spark joy now? Is there a special pandemic type of joy?

If people got rid of useful items or rainy day items then that is on them. They need to own that. Surely some rainy days items should be kept even by the most minimalist of people, as we all get rainy days.

So don't blame Marie Kondo , blame yourself or whoever kondoed.

Kondo-ing my bedroom and belongings has been amazing (still have a little more to do, it really is a process, it took AGES)
I’m really happy about it, it helps me to be calm. I will tackle another area in the house soon.

"Is there a special pandemic type of joy?"

that's a great question!!! we need KonMarie on here - seriously!! shall I ask MNHQ?

actually, if you KonMarie properly, you get rid of the expired bits in your food cupboard and medicine cabinet, that are unusable anyway.

Much healthier to know everything you have, than realising the medicine you thought you had is expired and cannot be used.

I am not finding a lot of free time to play with my hoard. Too busy working from home. Therefore, I am still glad to have a clutter free home. My dcs are teenagers so they really only need their phones and laptop.

BlueJava · 25/03/2020 18:03

I Kondo'd my whole home - it's amazing! It's really helped me clean much more quickly, no clutter to fall over, everything in it's place. I had an empty kitchen cupboard so I made a small stock of a variety of things for when lockdown happened. I love it!!

Mehmehmeh19 · 25/03/2020 18:08

I wish I'd not given our wii could do we thrashing DH at donkey kong right now!

HasaDigaEebowai · 25/03/2020 18:14

I'm desperate to start decluttering now that we are on lockdown but Im too busy with pretending to work atm. At the weekend I did all the food cupboards though. I am amazed at how much space we actually have and it was really good to sort through things.

I've resolved to do one thing a day now. However bad the pandemic gets I will not need baby clothes for my teenagers.

HasaDigaEebowai · 25/03/2020 18:15

I'm glad I didn't do toiletries though. I've got out all the little hotel bottles/soaps etc and we are gradually working our way through them.

bookmum08 · 25/03/2020 18:20

Yes I bet people are grateful for all those xmas lynx gift sets now Grin

lazylinguist · 25/03/2020 18:22

Nope. I'm not missing anything tbh. Maybe I didn't Kondo as vigorously as you, OP! Still got plenty of things to keep us occupied. Just Kondoed my freezer today too, so I know exactly what's in there (big chest freezer).

I don't regret anything I kondo'd. I appreciate having a clear flat now Im stuck in here 24/7.

I said to DH the other day how pleased I was that we bought new paintings recently for our previously blank walls cos now we can really appreciate them.

Who needs a football net? Just shove 2 jumpers on the floor

SpyApp · 25/03/2020 20:48

No but you might need to make lovely baby quilts from them for your grandkids Grin

SpyApp · 25/03/2020 20:51

Cute. Sorry about the massive link though.

RedDiamond · 25/03/2020 20:59

I want to do a massive declutter of my clothes but where on earth can I get rid of them if charity shops are now closed?

CroissantsAtDawn · 25/03/2020 21:03

You can't. You have to wait.
Unless.other people near you need them

RedDiamond · 25/03/2020 21:13

Sorry, I wasn't thinking straight. Bit tired, still working. I wasn't sure if the power of Mumsnet would suddenly say "Salvation Army want donations and will collect". My tired thinking.

GemmeFatale · 26/03/2020 07:56

Worth asking the local food bank or women’s shelter @RedDiamond.

HasaDigaEebowai · 26/03/2020 08:26

There won't be any grandkids if they can't go within two metres of another human Wink

smalalalalalala · 26/03/2020 10:52

even pre-pandemic it was ridiculous, yes to clutter-free but no to the use and throw mentality (except for TP, that's okay)

Earth is dying under waste.

Bananalanacake · 26/03/2020 11:25

Don't throw away lego, it sells well on Ebay, especially a big lot in a box.

Lweji · 26/03/2020 11:34

It's a good thing I never threw away that skipping rope I bought DS and he never used.
As my boxing gloves.
I'm using them now to exercise at home.

People in Portugal are using old transparencies (for those ancient overhead projectors) to make face shields to be used in hospitals.

Some things are clutter, others may become useful.
