The Pope has asked all Christians to pray for the world at midday (11am UK time) praying the Lord's Prayer with him. All people of good faith whatever their religion could do the same using their prayers to relieve us of coronovirus. A concerted prayer from the stricken earth. Prayer can move mountains. Please join in.

And who decided which books to include in the Bible? The Catholic Church!

And other branches decided on different ones. Wiki has a nice chart - educate yourself. Grin

But never mind that. Did it work? Is the world relieved of Coronavirus now? If not, why not?

For clarity my post was aimed at @Isthepopea but I cross posted with others.

The answer to 'is the pope a catholic' , btw while we're being educational as we wait for the miracle, is 'depends which one....'

Prayer does absolutely nothing.

soupforbrains · 27/03/2020 00:39

@ErrolTheDragon I think it’s scheduled for 11am in the morning so it hasn’t happened yet in any case.

I encourage anyone with a faith that includes prayer or meditation to join in and do their usual prayer/meditation. It will probably health peace of mind and mental wellbeing especially as being part of a larger ‘thing’ can boost these feelings.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 27/03/2020 00:40

I’m not religious but if this is something that gives believers hope for the days to come then great

I knew this thread would just end up as a religious debate though

Regardless the “Also btw the pope is catholic not Christian” has massively made me feel better!!! 😂😂😂. So enjoy your prayers OP and hope it does help you. Thank you for making this thread just so I could read this comment though

@ErrolTheDragon glad you’re a QI watcher. 😉 Grin

Yes the Catholic Church is very ancient and is based upon the church which St Peter founded, being the very first bishop of roman the notion of him being.bishop of Rome is contested and isn't as straightforward as the Catholic church claim.

At Peter's claim to b the Bishop of Rome is temouus

purpleme12 · 27/03/2020 00:42

The first page did make me laugh saying the Pope is Catholic not Christian

I once worked with someone who said she was a Catholic and yet said Catholic is not a Christian! When I tried to say it's a denomination of Christianity she still kept sticking to get point!

FunkyKingston · 27/03/2020 00:42

Jesus literally founded the Catholic Church which continues in an unbroken line to today.

He didn't, either literally or figuratively. You're just fucking wrong.

@dopeydwarf That website you linked to is batshit. On the homepage:

There has been a lot of talk about "aliens" for some time and the talk continues; some kind of sky show may be in the future. If you see something in the air, it is not because there are true aliens. But what about devils? yes there are devils; what about oversized genetically modified organisms and chimeras? maybe; possessed people? yes there are; 3D pictures, yes; pheromones, yes; unrevealed inventions and laws, in all probability, yes. If you hear a voice, see lights, or whatever, compare everything to the Bible--we believe in the Bible above our senses. This is a time of deception. You will not be deceived if you read and obey the scriptures. Read Matthew 24 (and other passages as well) for what is going to happen when the Lord returns.

The whole site reads like the ravings of a lunatic.

glad you’re a QI watcher.

Not often. This really is heresy, but there are other sources of knowledge.Grin

soupforbrains · 27/03/2020 00:46

Haha!

soupforbrains · 27/03/2020 00:46

This thread is full of ‘heretics’ of all kinds anyway so in for a penny... Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 27/03/2020 00:52

I think it’s scheduled for 11am in the morning so it hasn’t happened yet in any case.

Yes, but the thread was started yesterday just before it was due to start

^ Pope Francis has asked leaders of all the world’s Christian confessions to join with all the faithful in reciting the Lord’s Prayer today - Wednesday, March 25th, the Feast of the Annunciation - at noon, Rome time.
That’s 11am London and 7am Eastern Daylight Time.^

LynetteScavo · 27/03/2020 01:01

Also btw the pope is catholic not Christian. Hahahahaha!

You are the worst kind of catholic. Wow. Just...wow.

Prayer does absolutely nothing.

It helps an awful lot of people with faith focus and find comfort.
