So I work evenings at Domino’s and it’s been announced they are still running as usual, just restricting to ‘contact free’ deliveries only.
I have seen mixed response on Facebook comments etc about whether this is sensible. Some are saying that it’s a vital service at this time to provide people like NHS workers etc with quick and fresh food and is also an option for people to get food without leaving the house to go to busy supermarkets.
However, looking on my rota for this weekend there are 12 of us working in the actual kitchen (mix of managers and in-store staff) and it’s a very small space, you are standing shoulder to shoulder with people and constantly have to brush past people to move anywhere else. Then of course theres the additional 12 drivers who are in and out the door, standing squashed together whilst orders are bagged up, they are also in store a lot doing the washing up etc. They absolutely don’t have the space to have us standing a safe distance apart.
So that’s around 24 people having close contact with one another for several hours in order to run the place. I’m not sure if people realise it’s not like a small kebab shop with one person cooking and a couple of drivers.
I’m reluctant as to whether it’s the right thing to go into work, but it will make money a bit tight. Plus there are the points that actually it is helping people who can’t access food and prevents people mixing too much at supermarkets?
