Can I get my car MOTd?

This sounds absolutely ridiculous considering the issues some people are facing, but I'm a key worker, who needs to do visits. My car is booked for an MOT on Wednesday. Will I still be able to get my car MOTd? Or do I have to declare it off-road and not work?

Sorry for trying to help I was only repeated what my friend not brother by the way had Told, so sorry but phone the garage yourself and find out,
I don't rage and be rude on here but as a frontline nurse I don't have time for this I was only saying what I'd heard

I haven’t if looked at the renewal but it’s usually extortionate but I don’t know if I will be able to shop around

I don't think insurance will be too affected as you can do it online anyway.

So yes garages are open but there will be no MOTs

Totally untrue. At this point.

@gingysmummy
Well the thread has already been filled with quotes and links from the government along with explanations for those clearly outlining the rules at the moment. So what some random tells you doesn trump that and passing it on just causes more confusion. Stick to the advice as it is published. And you being a nurse has nothing to do with posting about MOTs

Sorry after working a 24 hour shift I haven't read the full thread ! I'll be on my way

After speaking to the place my car is due for it's MOT, it's looking like I cant get my MOT done.

adaline · 24/03/2020 13:40

Our local garage is still open and doing MOT's, but it's all contactless. You drive up, ring them and let them know you're there. Then they come out, you leave your keys in the car and leave. They then collect your car and do the MOT.

Once it's done, the paperwork is left in your car with your keys, and they ring you to come and collect it. Payment is taken over the phone. If your car needs more work doing then they'll keep it until it's done.

Took mine in this am - one headlight a bit dim so presume bulb needs replacing - they’ll do a service too and MOT due end April so they’ll fix whatever needs doing so it passes . Live in London and am essential worker so need car .

Just announced - your MOT is extended by 6 months.

Can I get my car MOTd?
WickedlyPetite · 25/03/2020 10:38

Actually OP not sure this applies to you given yours was already 2 months out of date.

cloudbutter · 25/03/2020 10:49

It doesn't apply to me. Just had it MOTd. It's failed and I'm keeping the SORN as I can't afford the fix
